James Toney racist comments!!!
FULL ARTICLE : http://www.eastsideboxing.com/news.php?p=6538&more=1
These are some of the beliefs Toney conveyed:
"Rahman is a real fighter; we aren’t nothing like these Germans and Russians you all trying to build up."
"We Afro-Americans... we like to fight… we ain't scared to fight nobody."
"You all keep trying to build up the Great White Hype. It’s not gonna happen."
“The Klitschkos, the walking dead man over in Germany, Valuev.”
"It’s not going to happen. You all can stop all that. Stop it."
"There isn't going to be a white heavyweight champ, unless you see him Europe... and that's real."
“I’m gonna keep it real. I’m not gonna hide nothing.”

Re: James Toney racist comments!!!
These are stupid racist comments making out that afro-americans are good fighters, doesn't make one think they are good at other things does it?
Again he claims there will be no white champ, why? Because white people are not good enough to claim the crown. Might be what he was thinking!
I think James Toney is being controversial, with light racism and probelly to get media attention. IMHO!
-
Re: James Toney racist comments!!!
I'm a white European and I agree with Toney 100% All of the current white heavies are chumps, weak chinned robots who would have been destroyed had they fought in any other era.
Long live the Toney!
-
Re: James Toney racist comments!!!
Well, let's be honest, he makes some points about the style that Eastern Europeans fight, and we don't have that many western europeans or southern european hw's on the way up, so I guess he is probably right. However, after looking at his recent performances he ain't going to be an afro-american that wins the hw title either.

If I could speak like Toney, I wouldn't. >:mad >:mad >:mad >:mad O0

Re: James Toney racist comments!!!
Fuck it, Toney is Toney. Thats the way he is, he's controversial and disrespectful, thats the way he likes to portray himself. Great fighter all the same.
-
Re: James Toney racist comments!!!
listen, whether he is right or wrong, if it was said the other way around there would be riots and murders...
just bein honest

theres only one of these that seems even close to racist.
i guess people have different definitions of whats racist. try going to highschool in las vegas ;) (and that was 10 years ago, im sure its much worse now)

Re: James Toney racist comments!!!
Speaking of overt racism, I wouldn't trust anything that comes from that trash-pile over at Eastsideboxing. If you think there are too many Klitschko fans on this site, you
wouldn't believe it. ::**

Re: James Toney racist comments!!!
toney is toney, we shouldnt take much of what his saying the wrong way, his always been like that...what he says doesnt bother me.
ooh i think in any era vitaly could be a champ, his the most complete (european)heavyweight i've ever seen, plus his a giant heavyweight. it only takes double jabs to keep any heavy off him. ooh then comes the finishing touch BOOOOOM, thats a massive punch that just landed, (oppenent)wtf was that, waking up ten second later. ooh yea you know vitaly can knock any one in any era out.

Re: James Toney racist comments!!!
I heard the same, Toney is disrespectful. Never mind, at least he makes interesting reading. 8)

Re: James Toney racist comments!!!
JT knows every time he makes a comment like that, more people will spend money to watch him get his ass handed to him (or not)..which obviously aint gonna hurt his finances. Its a bit low playing the race card IMO but he aint stupid, I dont think he is racist either. A lot of his team are white men. Boxing has never been about race, its social class and poverty, pure and simple. People who have nowhere to go outside boxing, men with nothing to lose.
Watch the British boxing scene over the next 10 years and see how many good asian boxers come through. 10 years after that it will be the Polish fighters etc.. :)
-
Re: James Toney racist comments!!!
That's just Toney being Toney. Street thug to the max.
Thing is...someone else said it a few posts back...had a white man said the same...the fit would be hittin the shan! ;D

We've already had a few asian boxers coming through the ranks, and I can't see that tide slowing, Khan's current success can only boost the numbers of asian families willing to let their kids start boxing, but at the moment, the polish boxers who are around the british scene tend to be those that have moved over here for work, and are continuing an interest/minor career in boxing.

Re: James Toney racist comments!!!
Its hardly racist, just a cultural difference. He believes white europeans cant be decent heavyweight champs, and from what i have seen over the last few years, his comments are justified. Although controversial, that's just the nature of the Toney propaganda machine.
Never actuly seen it, but from what u class as racism (which is fair enuf), would u call the title 'white men can't jump' racist?
-
Re: James Toney racist comments!!!
THere is a rule of thumb: Minorities are allowed to be racist because they have been subject to racism for a far longer. As a white person I realize I can't say the equivalent of somebody calling me a cracker or whatever because that snot how it works, but vice virsa its just how it goes.
-
Re: James Toney racist comments!!!
If you don't think this is a racist comment you don't know what the definition of racist is.
Racism is a belief system or doctrine which states that inherent biological differences between human races determine cultural or individual right or achievement — with a corollary that one's own race is superior and has the right to rule others.
That is a pure racist comment freom Toney pure and simple, he just isn't smart enough to know it.

Re: James Toney racist comments!!!
There are certin things I doubt about those statements...I would have to hear them myself....I don't want to dis-credit ESB but my biggest doubt comes from Toney giving Rahman credit for anything......Tony cares about Toney he isn't giving credit to anyonew else White,Black, blue , green or otherwise

Who said they didn't think it was racist? The point I'm making at least is that minorities for reasons aforementioned are more tolerated making racist slurs because of the conditions they were subjected to for centuries.

Re: James Toney racist comments!!!
I like Toney, but after all the crazy sh*t he's spouted, saying something racist just doesn't seem like that big of a deal. But who really believes he really racist? His manager is white, his trainer is white, and there's not telling of how many white women he's bagged in his day.

Re: James Toney racist comments!!!
Definitions of racism and the way in which people percieve it change from generation to generation, that definition was written in the context of that time. If it was so racist, surely someone would be pressing allegations and the police would have launched an enquiry, whereas the simple truth is that they are light-hearted, purposefuly controversial comments with a racial undertone, not specifically racist. This is the world we live in!

I wonder what would happen if it was the other way around and Wladimir Klitschko had made those comments? ???
-
Re: James Toney racist comments!!!
Exactly what i am saying, you would most likely percieve any comments along the same lines by Klitschko to be racist, as when people hear racism, they automatically assume in most cases that a white man is dishing out the abuse to a minority ethnic group.
James Toney should be criticised scientifically if anything else. He is making comments about the genetic make-up of white europeans, and how this relates to their physical ability in the ring, and i doubt Toney has conducted any reserach specifically in this area. lol.

He's got a doctorate in genetics from UCBS. In fact he started UCBS - University College of Bull S**t.

Re: James Toney racist comments!!!
If you're gonna bring up Toney's "racist" comments how about I show you one of Oscar De La Hoya's.
How's this sound
"No Black fighter could ever beat me. African Americans have no heart."
He said this before the Whitaker fight.
I guess Oscar is a racist prick eh??
Can we stop taking fighter quote and placing judgements on them ;)

Why should we take what fighters say any different from anyone else in the public eye says?Should they be able to say anything they want?Look what happened to Michael Richards(Kramer from Sienfeld)after he made those statements! He had to publically apoligize for it and was kicked out of that club forever.I know Toney isn't the sharpest tool in the shed but he should at least be able to keep his mouth shut about these kind of things. >:mad

I agree, if someone wants to be a racist let them, its not a crime. There is actually alot of smart black people who claim that blacks are genetically different and therefore ought to have medecines etc. tested so that they know they work on them. Its one thing to claim that there are racial differences, another to act in a bad way towards other people. Toney does a little of both and its not a big deal.

Yeah Richards was wrong for calling them niggers, but if you see the whole clip, you can clearly hear this group of black guys talking loudly while he trying to do his routine, just acting like a bunch of dickheads being loud and obnoxiuos, all I heard on the news is Richards screaming like a nut, and the black dudes saying "THATS UNCALLED FOR". And I thought that they handled it good.....but on the full version you hear the blacks holering back Cracker mother fucker, you white mother fucker!! We'll see you outside you white bitch. I've heard worse racial slurs on BET comedy club towards whites, so fuck em if they can't take a joke!

Re: James Toney racist comments!!!
Anyways, Ali was a one ofthe most racist boxers, and it didn't seem to matter so leave Toney alone. Anyways many of the black boxers in the past were disliked just for being black... Joe Louis was the only one before Ali to really be accepted by everyone, and thats because he a patriot through and through.
