Ricky Hatton WOULD KILL Roberto Duran
This is Hatton in action:

Heres Duran in action:

Hatton would fire a flurry of cross each time and
destroy Duran's body and head over 12 rounds for a UD.
Hatton is faster, MORE powerful and good at tieing up.

Re: Ricky Hatton WOULD KILL Roberto Duran
you are joking right, the hands of stone would beat ricky every day of the week and twice on sunday

Re: Ricky Hatton WOULD KILL Roberto Duran
This is one hell of a stupid topic...
For one.. You obviously dont know your duran because you forget these points...
1. Duran was at his best when he was young..
2. Although he pulled off some great victories past these dates his best fights were at about 1980 and previous to this date.. About the time he beat leonard..
3. He fought hagler, hearns and the rematch with leonard something like 9 years after his prime and still made a fight of some of them and was still beating world class athletes here and there..
4.You picture Hatton in his prime against kostya Tszyu
But picture a roberto duran who is ten years out of prime, four weights out of his original and facing possibly the hardest hitting fighters of all time..
Doesnt really match up... Now..
In actual fact if you were to pit a prime for prime bout between hatton and duran this would be held at light welterweight..
Hatton's weight and only 7 pounds about a prime durans original wieght..
And if you wish to see how that would go i would await the bout between castillo and hatton.
But over fifteen rounds ;)

Re: Ricky Hatton WOULD KILL Roberto Duran
Hahaha thats the funniest thing I've heard all day. Hatton beat Duran ;D For a second there i thought you were serious.......... ::** ............. :o ohh my god you were weren't you ??? ???

Desperate attempts at seeking attention through outlandish thread titles will get you what you deserve, sad click buddy!

Re: Ricky Hatton WOULD KILL Roberto Duran
As stupid as this topic is. I always thought Ricky possessed a lot of the same qualities Duran had.

Re: Ricky Hatton WOULD KILL Roberto Duran
I always hate these cross generational comparison threads, they are seldom cut and dry and never resolved. I like both fighters but think Duran has the obvious edge...

Same. There has rarely been one that I have liked. It just seems like a waste of time imo.

Sweetpea, nuclear bull, Tito_BHB, mike_tha_man, smashcrusher, amat and miles I see your point.

The ref talks about the fight with the outcome to Duran, but a fight that close (in the article) might even swing to Hatton.

I totally agree that both hatton and a prime duran share a few great qualities..
Ive pointed out earlier that the comparison is unfair due to the evidence Hardrock puts up...
But in actual fact i have not said who has the edge..
One factor might be..Did duran ever quite havethe same training facilities and opportunities for his fights?
Also the fact that Roberto was always an underacheiver when it came to training and sometimes would do nothing but sparring to make weight.. For the simple reason that duran just loved to fight..So he would just fight an incredible amount of rounds in sparring to make weight..But in fact wouldnt be in as great shape as he could be...
Both fighters have been or are well known for blowing up in weight between fights..
I honestly dont believe either is out of theyr leaugue in this proposed prime for prime fight...
Its silly to say either would murder either is my point..Both are great fighters ..
One is a legend..One is a legend in the making..Should hatton do what he needs to do..
Peace

Rock my point is not who beats who..It is that neither destoys the other..
Both at theyr primes are utter world class fighters and niether can be fobbed off so easily..
My only arguemnt with you is that your evidence is incorrect..

Its a possiblity but like I said before, these generation against generation fights are difficult to judge. Too many variables at play, becomes a matter of guess work at the end of the day. A kind of lottery and still you dont really know how it would have played out...

While the above remark will be popular with the Hatton crowd, I respectfully disagree. "Legend" is a word too often and too easily thrown around nowadays. Duran is a legend in boxing because he earned that distinction over the years, and over the course of many epic battles with the best that boxing had to offer. In several weight classes, I might add.
Hatton has a good record, an impressive win over one Kostya Tszyu, and is a class act in and out of the ring. But "legend"? In the words of Bill Parcells: "Let's not get out the annointing oil just yet."

which he very well could be just like joe c could depends on decisions they and promoters make in next year or so
but somehow i dont see joe c getting big fights hatton has best chance though if he beats castillo in his next fight and pulls out another big win he very well could be a legend

Honestly Tito, I think that if Hatton stays at 140 he could be one of the best 140's ever.

If we go THAT route, let's just call EVERY fighter out there with an undefeated record, who have had decent competition "Legends in the Making". If Hatton is a L.I.T.M., why not Cotto? Why not PBF? Why not any number of fighters out there today? And why are just a handful of fighters from the past "legends", while more than a handful of fighters from today deserve to be called "legends in the making?" Don't follow the logic.

Yes amat.... he could. But before the jury hands down THAT decision, some things have to happen. And one of them is that Hatton has to beat some bigger names before he calls it a career. The Tszyu fight alone is not going to do it. And let's face it, before that fight, Hatton's name was not well known outside of the U.K.

This is one of the few times I might have to disagree with you. If Hatton fights only the best and beats the best for the next 4 years then im inclined to agree. I find it difficult to imagine it happening though. Im a Hatton fan as many know, but Im also a realist...

yes i was just mentioning hatton and calzaghe and i agree cotto and mayweather both could be legends of there era and im not calling every fighter with underfeated records legends in making but difference is calzaghe and hatton only have 3 fights left max and very could be legends of there era in there next 3 fights easily lets just put it this way
joe calzaghe
mikkel kessler
jermain taylor
roy jones clinton woods glen johnson bernard hopkins ect any of those 4 would do fine
and for hatton
castillo
corrales
cotto mayweather
if calzaghe or hatton could fight atleast 2 of those opps and win they would be legends no doubt ;)

Re: Ricky Hatton WOULD KILL Roberto Duran
It all boils down to what each person considers "a legend." Duran was a champion back in the days of Leonard, Benitez, Hearns and Hagler. He became a champion in several weight classes. He fought some memorable battles with boxing's best. He fought his big fights outside of Panama, his native country, and in Las Vegas... arguably the world's biggest boxing stage.
I think the word "legend" should be reserved for the truly elite boxers over the history of boxing.
-
Re: Ricky Hatton WOULD KILL Roberto Duran
;D
As funny as they come, to think that this man below who fought THEE toughest fighters of his era (regardless of outcome) would be defeated by Ricky Hatton whos toughest opponent in 40 something fights has been Tszyu......
I feel like I'm in a episode of the Twilight Zone..... ???
My fav. Duran pic...... 8)

Well in fairness that is the entire point.. The great fighters that are cotto, Floyd, ricky,Pac etc..
They are all worthy of in the making..In the making has no implication of security...
More the implication of failure if you ask me.. Its a measure of potential to do so..But an unsureness that they can make that mark...
And in all fairness Fwok the numbers i dont care if they have thirty defeats.. Its the mark they make and the fights they take that will make them and break them from a great legacy..
What could they all do... I mean hatton..Good fight with tszyu..That enough..Hell no..
They need those legendary fights.. They need the right opponents.. Hearns leonard duran and hagler would be nothing without at least two of the names on that list..Because of the way those fights came off and how they were interesting..
I mean think about it.. Duran - leonard.. Duran moves up a weight and beats a great undefeated fighter which was thought that it couldnt happen..
They rematch shortly after and who could have guessed that roberto would give up?..
And whats even stranger is that they never made the rubber match till almost ten years later..
And inbetween the second and third meetings they both went and did great things..
Now its not about having a nice undefeated record its about making that mark.. Duran could have fought to his death bed because thats what he likes to do and it gets him payed.. He might still be fighting if he hadnt have had that accident..
Ricky cotto floyd etc.. they all have the potential and the means to have great fights..
Become fighters of the year and have fights of the year..
ricky and floyd are already talking of retiring.. But they never really had those real wars..
Look at gatti.. His fair share of losses..Was never a truely amazing fighter..He could box a bit and he could brawl..But its the fights he had that made his name and i doubt he'll ever be forgotten!
Fights with ruelas and ward.. fights of the year awards..
Even his fight with leija was easy watching..A very clean entertaining fight..
Loads of great fights nobody will ever say in twenty years..Gatti sugar ray rob prime= prime who wins..
But he wont be forgotten..
And all these great fighters need to go find these upsets and 12 round brawls.. The competition is there if they want it enough..

Technically he isn't. Actually i would say technically he is in his prime. He just need to sort his lifestyle out.
As for beating Duran.........NO

Ricky's been in many a fight ! . Tough grueling type fights… you factor that in with his life style and you have what is called “dog years” ! 29 looks a bit better on paper. ;)

Re: Ricky Hatton WOULD KILL Roberto Duran
Duran at lightweight may be one of the top 5 most feared fighters of all time............His prime was at 135 and when ever I compare fighters I do so at their prime weights to be fair......If the matchup was proposed I am sure Duran would have met Hatton at 140..........And beat Hatton something terrible....It would be a great fight for about 5 rds.....Duran in his prime was no Tszyu on the slide, No Emmon McGee, No Ben Tackie, or Juan Urango,,,,,,Duran was the type of guy that ruined fighters and you werent going to hit and hold your way to victory

Re: Ricky Hatton WOULD KILL Roberto Duran
Hatton wouldn't even be good enough to be a sparring partner. He has no chance of the beating the legendary Duran

Good thread and good posts but Duran is a better fighter in any case. I would not be surprised if many Hatton fans are Duran fans too
