Hopkins should outbox Jackson to earn 12 round decision

Re: Bernard Hopkins Vs Julian Jackson
Too much power from Jackson.
I would predict a late round knock out

I know JJ had some pop, but let's look at the list of KO artists that have tried and failed to knock Bernard out...
Tito
RJJ
Tarver
Taylor
B-Hop getting sparked ain't happening.

Tito's best weight was 147, unlike Jackson.
RJJ never KOd anyone of any consequence at 160.
Tarver shed ALOT of weight to get back to 175.
Jermaine Taylor has only won decisions against a-class caliber opposition.
That being said, Jackson wins by KO, and I mean early KO.

Re: Bernard Hopkins Vs Julian Jackson
Jackson is a hard guy to figure. I think Bernard is professional enough to stay away the whole 12 rounds. It is not a case of can Jackson land the punch, it is can a guy who is fighting him keep beating him to the punch and not get careless for one exchange. Look at the Herol Graham or Terry Norris fight? Or even Buster Drayton. That is a serious puncher there. Probably the most scary puncher in the history of boxing in someways. Do you guys think even a guy with a chin of Hagler could have taken a clean Jackson punch? I am not sure, probably but who knows. Hagler could war at times and that could be his undoing.

Why?
Even Jones who eventually won a share of the Heavyweight title couldnt drop B-hop
-
Re: Bernard Hopkins Vs Julian Jackson
Because Jackson is one of the purest punchers ever.
He had legitimate one punch ko power and was a classic finisher. Last but not least he was a underrated boxer who know how to cut of the ring. He had to to get within punching range
Jones on the other hand had a tendacy to carry opponents and be distracted and safetyconsious
Apologys for bad spelling, english is not my native language
-
Re: Bernard Hopkins Vs Julian Jackson
But again, a light middleweight who went to middle
A pure cruiser/lighty heavy in Tarver couldnt hurt B-hop
Another, who eventually went to heavy in Jones couldnt hurt B-hop
And another blown up light middle,in Trinidad, who was also known for his knockout power, got flat out hurt by B-hop
Heck a solid middle in Antwun Echols lost a round and a half to B-hop when B-hop could only throw a left because of a seperated shoulder

Re: Bernard Hopkins Vs Julian Jackson
Mugabi, Hearns and Jones had good power and great power, but Jackson had the kind of power which Mugabi and Hearns and Jones could not knock out Hagler, Jackson might have been able to if he connected. He had the power to demolish the best chins.. Why? I am not sure. Those other guys had power where they had nights where the opponent would not go down. Jackson usually knocked down who he hit clean. And after 1988 he got even better.

Jackson imo is hardest hitting fighter p4p ever Hopkins should win decision but he would have to give Jackson 100 percent respect because one punch clean and thats it i don't care how good Hopkins chin is if Jackson hits him clean thats it game over.

I agree

Re: Bernard Hopkins Vs Julian Jackson
Prime B-hop for me, probably by KO as well after wearing him down. JJ was one hell of a puncher though, freakish power, but still reckon the best chins could handle him like Hagler. McCallum managed it, once he got over the rough patch he just broke him down.

He didn't catch McCallum flush though he caught him few good shots but not flush Jackson would ko Hopkins if he made one mistake but Hopkins should win this.

I agree with you, but the point I'm trying to make is that the best fighters very rarely get caught flush. Hagler and MacCallum had excellent chins, but they were also very good at keeping there chins down, so while they often took big punches, they were never really flush shots like the one JJ landed on graham.
The impresison I get from JJ is that he was a very good fighter, but just seemed to come unstuck against the very best well schooled fighters, which is what B-hop is. Even though JJ would have a punchers chance against Hopkins, I'd rate it as a very slim chance, less than one fight in 10.

Re: Bernard Hopkins Vs Julian Jackson
I actually think that the post-prime more mature hopkins would be a lot more likely to beat jackson than B-hop in his "prime" as he fought vs. jones.
In his earlier career he was easier to catch with bombs and as he became older and became more defense concious (and some say negative in the ring,) for me he would grind out a ud

Actually i never considered that version of Hopkins that fought Jones to be a prime Hopkins

Actually theres alot too that, because of his lack of an ametuer backround,Bhop really doesnt start to hit stride, until a couple of years later in the second Mercado fight

Re: Bernard Hopkins Vs Julian Jackson
I think Hopkins could eek out a decision but I'm not really certain on the outcome. Has Hopkins ever faced a puncher like Jackson? Jacksons defeat to McCallum was when he was on the way up rather than at his peak.
Hopkins is sound tactically and he has a very good chin and I could see him cautiously earning a points victory.

I just can't see bernard losing by KO at any time in his career.

Well he was down twice against Segundo Mercado so it is possible for Jackson to stop Hopkins if he hit him clean.
-
Re: Bernard Hopkins Vs Julian Jackson
"young" Bernard Hopkins wouldn have been that difficult to catch either, he threw volumes of Body Punches, but in doing so the hands were low and rarely returned to his face for protection.

i agree.. however i never been a fan of hopkins only becuase he is awkard to watch from some reason? cant place it something about his style nulls my intrest

Re: Bernard Hopkins Vs Julian Jackson
Hopkins by mid - late rounds TKO.
JJ just did not have the tools to catch up with & stop the clever Hopkins.
-
Re: Bernard Hopkins Vs Julian Jackson
Young Hopkins vs Jackson = Jackson KO
Old Hopkins vs Jackson = Hopkins UD or late TKO.
