If Floyd can get past Oscar...should he then take on Mosley?

While some fans may feel that Mosley's best chance of recapturing pound for pound glory again would be for Mayweather to beat De La Hoya on May 5 in Las Vegas, considering that he has previously ruled out having a third fight with the "Golden Boy", "Sugar" Shane actually sees it the other way around.

"I think it would probably best maybe if Oscar beats Floyd," he explained, "because then Floyd will come back down to 147lbs and fight me. If Floyd beats Oscar, then Floyd basically retires and probably doesn't fight again."

If Floyd can handle the weight...I'd love to see him fight Shane...but I think that Shane might have some advantages that Floyd does not.

#4: Shane seems rejuved. He seems geared & focused & ready to go. Again...this will depend on the outcome of Oscar vs Floyd.

Now...that being said...let's get on to my favorite fighter...who, IWO, would probably not be the favorite in a match against Mosley...atleast not the betting favorite.

#1: While Shane is faster...he does wear down down the stsretch...Floyd does not. Floyd often comes on in the latter rounds, while Mosley just seems to fall apart mentally if he's not the one on top of the game & also...if Jack's in Mosley's corner...all goes to hell if it's not in his favor.

#2: Floyd is hell on the ropes. He's a brilliant counter puncher which, IWO, is where the fight would probably be won. Floyd can not win a fight against Mosley in the center of the ring.

#3: Again...while Shane is the faster puncher...Floyd is faster on his feet than Mosley. Shane often tends to square up & that's just not a wise manuver against Floyd. If Floyd is allowed to move freely around the ropes of the square circle he'll pop Mosley all night & slip under what he throws. Again, Floyd's back to the ropes is the way to win this fight, IWHO.

#4: Weight. Once again, this is all depending on the outcome of Oscar vs Floyd. Floyd has always handled adversity...VERY WELL...I might add...but he's moving way up & swimming in deep uncharted waters. I say he's out of his weight limit by a damned long shot. I understand what Floyd is doing...or trying to do...& I commend it...but it's too much for the type of fighter with some of the minor issues that he has. Those two being:

#5: Ego & Mindset: Another factor that will hinge on the outcome of the Oscar fight. Floyd already considers himself a marvel in the ring...one that cannot be overcome...he's wrong...every man can be beaten...& honestly...Floyd has already laid out the road to his own ruin. Fight Oscar, lose, & then move down...waaaaaaaaaaaay down. God down to 140 again.

#6: Brittle Hands. His hands won't hold against Oscar, IWO, & they sure as shit won't against Mosley.

So anyways, that's what I'm thinking & those are some weak thoughts...but as I did state...they are there for discussion & there to be taken apart.

Oh yeah...Floyd's a better defensive fighter than Mosley is also.

That'd have to factor into the results also.

didn't mean it wasn't a good read, after the collazo fight i think we would get a better idea, it's been some time since shane has been in the ring with sum1 who has very fast hands, and collazo has them, much like mayweather - i find it hard to call atm until i see mosley in the ring with a fighter on top of his game like i expect collazo to be in their fight.

cotto, hatton, Williams and i think doesn't really need to bother with mosley but if he wants to fight him thats ok

If Floyd beats DLH, and Mosley wants to fight him, I don't see how anyone could be against a Mayweather-Mosley fight. It would be a big event and an entertaining fight.

I think Mayweather wins by UD. First off, I have to disagree with Wacko, Shane is not faster than Floyd and I don't see any advantage for Shane in terms of athleticism either. I don't see any major physical advantages for Shane.
I'm also not ready yet to buy into the idea that Shane is "rejuvenated." His last two wins were good wins, but Fernando Vargas is a complete corpse at this point.

This is what I typed a few months ago when the Floyd-Mosley topic came up:

Floyd by decision, 116-112 sounds about right.

Mosley, for all his obvious physical gifts, never developed a well-rounded style. He was always a straight ahead offensive fighter. He never used his speed and athleticism to develop a great defense. He also has a tendency to become one dimensional with straight right hands.

Mayweather would win because he is a little bit faster than Mosley, and more importantly, has the technical precision and defensive genius that Mosley lacks.
Mosley can only fight going forward, Floyd can be effective going forward or backward. He just brings more versatility to the table.
Floyd can hit Mosley and avoid getting hit that much in return, Mosley can't hit Floyd without leaving himself wide open to counters.

if pbf doesn't retire,win or lose against oscar i'd like to see him against mosley margarito hatton and cotto.

those four would look great on floyds resume,

2 veterans (mosley, margarito) can argue mosley is past it but his name still looks good for pbf.

2 undefeated (hatton, cotto) hatton seem to be sluffin nowadays,but beating a very hungry game undefeated like cotto will look great on pbf too so will hatton.

these are the kinds of fights pbf should be having. and that is if he wants to be consider a great.

noun of us knows whats gonna happen after the fight between pbf and odlh, but for sure PBF WILL CRY AGAIN AFTER THE FIGHT WIN OR LOSE.

Shane would go into this matchup the same as Oscar, with a size advantage that is hardly vast enough to be considered advantageous.

Shane in his prime is by far quicker than Floyd . Now there isnt much in it but I still give a handspeed edge to Mosley . He is also the better puncher . Floyd better at defence . Would be a class fight . I agree Floyd should be fighting guys like Cotto and Hatton instead of Shane and Oscar but its a real step up for the pretty boy and if he is teh real deal , he can win em .

would love to see mosley vs mayweather. but shane has got enough on his plate with collazo on saturday night and mayweather has definately got enough to worry about with oscar in april. but mosley mayweather would be quality.

I'm not saying Floyd was faster either, but saying one was much faster than the other is silly. And Shane couldn't even beat Vernon Forrest to the punch. One thing for sure is he's lost his speed, and no, being faster than a shot fighter who was never fast to begin with, and coming off of friggin' back surgery doesn't really help your argument.

When you watch Shane at lightweight . He is clearly quicker than Floyd has ever been at any weight . There cant be any disputing this as its so obvious. So saying he is far quicker is totally justified . I dont think its close . Now they are similar in that dept but prime for prime , no contest

The above is from a pretty good read that poses some good questions...but these are questions that can only truly be answered after the results of Oscar vs Floyd.

If Floyd can handle the weight...I'd love to see him fight Shane...but I think that Shane might have some advantages that Floyd does not.

Laugh all you want...here they are:

A few aspects in Shane's favor:

#1: Shane is naturally the more atheletic & also faster fighter.

#2: Shane is faster.

#3: Shane has been on the big stage with men that are a lot bigger than Floyd & although he has failed...he has not failed miserabley...well...cept for against Forrest & Wright.

#4: Shane seems rejuved. He seems geared & focused & ready to go. Again...this will depend on the outcome of Oscar vs Floyd.

#5: That's all I got...I aint a Mosley fan...he's great & all that...but I just don't dig on him.

Anywho, those are weak...but they are there for discussion & in print to be taken apart.

Now...that being said...let's get on to my favorite fighter...who, IWO, would probably not be the favorite in a match against Mosley...atleast not the betting favorite.

A few aspects in Floyd's favor:

#1: While Shane is faster...he does wear down down the stsretch...Floyd does not. Floyd often comes on in the latter rounds, while Mosley just seems to fall apart mentally if he's not the one on top of the game & also...if Jack's in Mosley's corner...all goes to hell if it's not in his favor.

#2: Floyd is hell on the ropes. He's a brilliant counter puncher which, IWO, is where the fight would probably be won. Floyd can not win a fight against Mosley in the center of the ring.

#3: Again...while Shane is the faster puncher...Floyd is faster on his feet than Mosley. Shane often tends to square up & that's just not a wise manuver against Floyd. If Floyd is allowed to move freely around the ropes of the square circle he'll pop Mosley all night & slip under what he throws. Again, Floyd's back to the ropes is the way to win this fight, IWHO.

#4: Weight. Once again, this is all depending on the outcome of Oscar vs Floyd. Floyd has always handled adversity...VERY WELL...I might add...but he's moving way up & swimming in deep uncharted waters. I say he's out of his weight limit by a damned long shot. I understand what Floyd is doing...or trying to do...& I commend it...but it's too much for the type of fighter with some of the minor issues that he has. Those two being:

#5: Ego & Mindset: Another factor that will hinge on the outcome of the Oscar fight. Floyd already considers himself a marvel in the ring...one that cannot be overcome...he's wrong...every man can be beaten...& honestly...Floyd has already laid out the road to his own ruin. Fight Oscar, lose, & then move down...waaaaaaaaaaaay down. God down to 140 again.

#6: Brittle Hands. His hands won't hold against Oscar, IWO, & they sure as S*** won't against Mosley.

So anyways, that's what I'm thinking & those are some weak thoughts...but as I did state...they are there for discussion & there to be taken apart.

Please, please, everyone...let's not break out a buncha hate & trash on this one...I want some good clean discussion here.

Shane Mosley is not faster than Floyd. Maybe that argument could have been made 7 years ago, but Mosley is lightyears slower than he was when he first campaigned at 147. Shane would go into this matchup the same as Oscar, with a size advantage that is hardly vast enough to be considered advantageous.

Shane in his prime is by far quicker than Floyd . Now there isnt much in it but I still give a handspeed edge to Mosley . He is also the better puncher . Floyd better at defence . Would be a class fight . I agree Floyd should be fighting guys like Cotto and Hatton instead of Shane and Oscar but its a real step up for the pretty boy and if he is teh real deal , he can win em .

Of all the great fighters with great handspeed throughout the years, not one of them is 'far' quicker than all others, not to mention that Shane in his prime cannot even be considered faster. I'm not saying Floyd was faster either, but saying one was much faster than the other is silly. And Shane couldn't even beat Vernon Forrest to the punch. One thing for sure is he's lost his speed, and no, being faster than a shot fighter who was never fast to begin with, and coming off of friggin' back surgery doesn't really help your argument.

When you watch Shane at lightweight . He is clearly quicker than Floyd has ever been at any weight . There cant be any disputing this as its so obvious. So saying he is far quicker is totally justified . I dont think its close . Now they are similar in that dept but prime for prime , no contest

In their primes Shane was the faster, stronger, more athletic fighter. However, Floyd is technically and defensively the more sound boxer. If this match happened several years ago...it would be a cracking fight. One in which Shane would have a very good chance of winning. Now, Floyd is the more prime and complete boxwe...but it would not be a walkover fight for him. Shane still would be a formidable opponent.

i happen to recall after the Vargas fight Mosley wanted nothing to do with Floyd but now he does??? I think its to little to late after Floyd fights he should retire. I like Floyd but i think he is not good for the sport itself. we need fighters that are going to bring fans back to the sport not fighters that will stink out a fight or a fighter that will completely dominate a lesser opponent. in my mind i think Floyd should go after the Oscar fight win or loose.

As I said...this is what I was thinking at the time & as I stated...admittedly...there are some weak points...but as I did state...they are just there for discussion.

I think it's hard to compare Floyd and Mosley as to who was faster at welterweight.. At lightweight, in his prime, Id have to say Mosley edges it out on pure handspeed.. Today, it's floyd without a doubt... but what makes it difficult to judge is that they have always had different punching styles... Mosley, over the course of his career, has liked to shoeshine quite a bit... He will flurry, which makes him appear incredibly fast, but in reality his punches are very short and robotic, and lack alot of mustard.. Floyd doesn't flurry at all, in general... When Mayweather punches his aim is to get full extension on his shots and make them meaningful. Mosley has never really been as effecient in this area. Id say Mosley at his best got off bigger and faster combos, but as he moved up in weight lost some speed and fell well behind what Floyd is capable of. Wheras Mayweather has always strived to get full extension on his punches, and not waste time trying to shoeshine and impress judges. Basically, Mayweather has always been faster to get off individual punches. His straight right, or lead left hook, are thrown with full execution, wheras whenever Mosley appears lightning fast his shots do not have much pop on them. Id say it's a very close call as to who was faster in their primes, but as far as today, Mayweather is easily faster.

Mayweather is a ballerina somebody who goes out the parish to avoid the punch he is not a great counter puncher and he is not an alltime great !!

He is a oppurtunist just like Bernard Hopkins he carefully selects his opponents !!

Mayweather wont dare mix it up with Oscar the way Shane Mosely did in only his second fight at Welterweight after moving from lightweight !!

Mayweather is not a fighter he's an ice skating ballerina somebody who gets by on technical merit.

Mosely has slown down yet not as accurate as he was and doesnt throw punches in sustained bursts like he use to but he will still stand up close and trade and he still hits hard enough to beat 99 per cent of the Welters and Light middles out there !

Mayweather would win by doing what he normally does by Roller skating to victory if he dreamt of actually backing his claims up he'd get pummled !

Mosley is back down at 147, that's where a Mosley-Mayweather fight would occur, not 154.

Well that will be a good fight, but remember this: Mosley at 147 has KO power & more speed! Speed that unlike Zab Judah will actually match up with Floyd's

I said it once, I said it twice, (might've said it a third time. I thought it a third time anyways.), but I think Mosley is the toughest fight for Floyd out there out of everyone.
the only way to beat Floyd is if you can match him or at least come close to him in terms of speed.
Ridicule Zab Judah all you want but I believe the blueprint for beating Floyd lay in the early rounds of the Zab - PBF fight.
If you can match Floyd for speed (Mosley can do that), keep your head on straight for 12 (Mosley can do that), and take into consideration being the naturally larger man at this stage (Mosley is), all formulates into Floyd's toughest fight.

I'd like to see this fight.
As a huge Floyd fan, I don't think the risk is worth the reward.
But as a fight fan, I'd love to see Floyd battle through some adversity that he'd take in a fight like this.
And hopefully turn some of the haters into fans in the process.
