Ricky Hatton Negotiation History, Vol I
On a crisp January morning, Ricky Hatton meets with his camp, along with the camp of an undisclosed fighter whom he will be fighting next. Hatton and his team arrive in the board room and see 4 men in business suits. Ricky thinks to himself ,"hmmmm, these must be the managers of the next tomato can I get to fight. I look forward to signing the contract and then heading off to enjoy some tea and crumpets for brunch." Then Ricky's manager says, "Guess what Ricky, these men are here because our next fight won't be against a bum." Hatton, with his voice cracking replies, "Oh really, that's great, who am I fighting." Hatton's manager replies, "These men represent Jose Luis Castillo, and they've offered us a fight of Jose challenging you for your title." Sweat then begins to pour from Ricky's head, as he then says, with a forced smile, and again a strangely cracking voice "oh, good, I can't wait to fight him in my own backyard with that same ref from the Kostya fight." Hatton's manager then replies, "No Ricky, you see, the fight is going to take place in America, and it will be a different ref." Hatton, now with his voice sounding like Shaggy from Scooby Doo, and sweat mysteriously pouring down his face, even though the room is fully airconditioned, replies, "Golly, that's wonderful. Oh wait, ring-a-ling-a-ling, ring-aling-aling (hatton covering his mouth and making a ringing sound as if a phone is ringing). Hey look at that my cell phone is ringing, let me grab this." Ricky then begins speaking into a cell phone that strangely does not even look like it's turned on. "Oh really? No. What? Well ok, if that's the way it has to be." Ricky then puts the phone back in his pocket and says, 'I just got a call from the president of the IBF and he says I have to fight the winner of 2 tomato cans. Sorry fellas. Would have loved to mix it up with Castillo, but I gotta abide by the rules. Have a nice day!"

You you send up the situation in quite an amusing manner, so have a first CC for that....
If you really think Hatton is scared of the prospect of facing Castillo then I think you are quite wrong, but if you think taking on the mandatory is a waste of time then im in full agreement...
The belt isnt worth all that much. If Hatton can beat Castillo then it leads to more fights, with or without the irrelevant belts...

It looks like weve got another hatton hatter to add to the list nd ddont give me that crap about the tszyu fight, hatton won nd was the better fighter on the night nd although hatton opponents havent been of the highest calibre recently they were still world champions. Also from wot i understand the castillo fight is still on but has been put back a few months so to say ricky is scared to fight castillo is a load of bollox with no truth to it. Also i no he hasnt impressed on american soil yet but he is still 2-0 nd although he clinches to much at time for my liking its not like hes the only fighter to use dirty tricks is he(castillo).Although i am dissapointed bcos theres no fight i want more than that 1 at the moment i still think the ndou fight will be a realy gd fight especialy after the perfomance he put in against rabah.

No. The belt is worthless and most everyone knows that. A fight with Castillo would be no different whether the title was on the line or not. Why didn't he honour some more mandatories before he moved up to welter?? Why didnt he defend that belt he won from Collazo?? And its not for you to say fuck the ibf title.. Cos jlc wants that around his waiste just like hatton does.. When it comes down to it... Titles mean more then you think..
I would much rather see hatton - castillo for the title instead of that fight without the title..
And think of it this way... That title is ' a joke'..Only because ricky dropped that title in the first place
Then he won the same title of the very next person to win it.. Which is much better then having it passed around several bums..
And also.. You criticise the honour of the title.. But how in the world will that title ever mean something if ricky keeps dropping it?.. At 140 the IBF is actually the most valuable belt. It is the only strap that Hatton took from the former Undisputed and LINEAL Champion Kostya Tszyu.

This belt does have some history, title holders included Aaron Pryor, Meldrick Taylor, Julio Cesar Chavez, Pernell Whitaker, Sharmba Mitchell, Zab Judah and of course Kostya Tszyu and Hatton.

It was when Hatton had it originally.. When Urango "won it" from Ben Rabah it didn't make him anything, so really Ricky may as well have never vacted the belt he just wasted over a year moving up and down after the scare with Collazo.. And now people are saying it's ok that he fights a guy who just beat Ben Rabah as well(as if that's supposed to make him a worthy mandatory), and put off the fight with Castillo another 9 months or whatever? I mean you'd think that Hatton fans would be as pissed off about this as anyone, Ricky isn't going to get any better and obviously neither is Castillo.. The point is that anyone can see by the IBF's doing this(making him fight N'dou), it is only taking away from any legitimacy the title holds. Why wouldn't they allow him to defend it against Castillo in June? THat's the superfight that would bring them the money.. If they don't want to sanction it now why should anything change after he beats N'dou?

No...what needs to be straightened is that Calzaghe's next opponent is a joke. Just as was Hatton's last.
Nothing about Calzaghe speaks bum. Calzaghe's a champion...he's just not doing what the status quoe demands...thus he's disappointed many...the same goes for Hatton...I'm as disappointed in him as I am Calzaghe...but Joe aint a bum & he's fought many game fighters.
Again...it's a defect in us all as fans...it's not what youv'e done...it's what have you done for me lately.

Not only that, but Calzaghe is a much better p4p fighter than Hatton is. Say anything you want, anyone... But the talent just isn't comparable. That's why if anything I would criticize Calzaghe more... Because he has the ability to win the big fights people want him to take, and he isn't doing it... With Hatton at least I can understand why they are avoiding the big names...
