Now i dont have too much life experiance my man... But this certainly sounds like a great opportunity..
I mean for one.. She's interested in boxing.. Which would be great for you to bond with her..
Secondly.. If she really takes up boxing and gets into it then its a great way to go about her life..
There should be more young people undertaking boxing ..It makes it more then likely that the discipline she learns in boxing will carry to her social life and working life and she'll make the right decisions about whether to smoke or whether she wants to drink or do drugs.. Most of the lads i know at the gym are too dedicated to boxing and used to being healthy to have ever considered drugs or cugarettes..
If it were me.. Then i'd jump at the chance.. But i dont know your daughter and i dont have the same life experiance as you...
How old is she can i ask?

Talking to a guy today on the social aspects of Boxing. It appears that Sweden did a survey on street crime since they banned Boxing. The figures were alarming so theyve reintroduced it, good bit of news.

That being said if I had a daughter I wouldn't let her box, play football, play ice hockey or any "guy sports"....of course I say that now but kids change a lot of previously held views
she is 14 and I think she is at the age to go with her on this...You are right when it comes to the drugs and trouble...so we'll see....usually you know if it's something you want to do after a few crakes upside the head.....Luckily I have coached Amature Boxing for the better part of the last 3 years and would love to get the chance to coach my child....Quote:

i can see no reasons why not to teach her a few things mate. learning the sport of boxing is quality character building most of the time. she'll learn discipline, composure, the importance of good health and learning how to throw some shots and maybe put someone on their arse if needs be can never be a bad thing ;D
If she wants to box just to learn it and stay in shape. Than yeah, let her. But if she wants to actually box to compete than I say no. 14 is a pretty advance age to learn boxing from scratch (is she learning from scratch?). Most kids (including girls) first start learning at a younger age. I first learned at 7. I seen some start at 5. So she'll be at a disadvantage experience wise. Which will lead to a good amount of ass kickings. Which I doubt you'll want your daughter going through. Anyway, that's just my opinion. Good luck in whatever you decide.Quote:

As a former amat boxer, I can say that boxing/training instills discipline and work ethic, builds character, and all of that good stuff. Messing around at the gym a little might be good for her.

It's like Rocky said, "boxing is a racket where you're almost guaranteed to end up a bum".
Also, I hate to sound sexist, but I do believe that my 6'3". 225 pound frame is way more capable of taking a beating than any chick. And Clint Eastwood movies aside, I do think brain injuries are more common in women's boxing.

The best sport of all though for a girl I'd imagine would be to combine swimming, martial arts and gymnastics so that she could go into Miss Fitness competitions etc.
You want to steer her in a feminine direction, boxing is a bit of a butch sport for women imo.
Obviously a tough girl, I wouldn't know what to do myself, but you know her best, at least she can try it out and then you'll both know how you feel about it.
