HE should be stopped!!!
Guys like this need to be stopped!
To let a guy with this kind of record keep fighting is CRIMINAL!
the commisioners that give him a license
should be KICKED IN THE NUTS!
and any fighter who USES guys like this to build a record is GUTLESS!
http://www.boxrec.com/boxer_display.php?boxer_id=004741
Are there even worse fighters out there?? Still fighting?
Lets see em! Worst record of all time??
-
Re: HE should be stopped!!!
Look at when he last got stopped, look at the records of the guys he is fighting these days. He fights, loses, doesnt get hurt and gets paid.
He's called a trial horse.

Yeah if hes still fit and healthy then why not? There are harder ways to make a living.

Re: HE should be stopped!!!
That name actually rings a bell.
I think we were all trying to find the fighter with the worst record.
If i remember correct, someone (either from their own knowledge or by way of another source) posted up some info that claimed Reggie was actually, once upon atime, not so bad.
It may of been BritKid... If it was, then that just makes me miss him more :-\
How we could do with some of his posts ::**

Re: HE should be stopped!!!
I think Strickland, like the UK's version Peter Buckley are obviously better than their records suggest. They are there primarily to lose without too much fuss, but if you arent up to par or try to take liberties with guys like that then they are more than capable of making you look a twat.
-
Re: HE should be stopped!!!
....I thought you finally came to your senses and posted something reasonable about Nicolay Valuev.....oh well, guess I was wrong
-
Re: HE should be stopped!!!
Enough with the spamming. >:mad
-
Re: HE should be stopped!!!
he was in the ring with two big names that i could spot, Charles Brewer and Cory Spinks, olso Tocker pudwill who was on the world scene
-
Re: HE should be stopped!!!
Reggie is a good defensive fighter who seldom gets hit flush. He just has a weak offence and bad training habits. No reason imo to take his licence
-
Re: HE should be stopped!!!
He started his "career" at 2-30! not 30-2!
he's had numerous 10,11,12 and as high as 15 loss in a row streaks
I'm not saying he's a bad person. But he needs to be protected from himself. In boxing you can and will get hurt. He doesn't have a bunch of KO's in those losses? Hey.. neither did Gerry Quarry.
If he's going in looking to cover up, not get hurt and just waiting for a safe time and place to lay down. Than thats a farse, and a discredit to the sport and all the guys who battle for every W on their record!
Hey it's just my opinion.
I wouldn't be able to justify putting a guy with that record on any card I was involved with. And what does it say, about what you think about your fighter? "ya we found a guy for ya to test yourself against". You should be able to "squeak" out a gutsy win against him...after all 276 other guys did!
Disgraceful!
-
Re: HE should be stopped!!!
He loves his job, he gets paid, fighters need rounds. The business wouldn't work without opponents, for every winner there has to be a loser. Every fighter has had fights against similar caliber opposition in the beginning.

Really? can you list some for me? Modern day fighters? any still fighting?Just say... 10 or so?? They don't have to all be as bad as poor Reggie here. How about.....oh....
say...just list the guys with ..oh....say...more than 200 losses....
There must be lots of them if EVERY fighter has been fighting them
-
Re: HE should be stopped!!!
A man outta know his limits.
That being said, why should he HAVE to fight a guy with a loosing record?
Maybe he likes fighting noobs & pospects. Maybe to him its rewarding.
BTW, Jerry Quarry? Reggie is doing 4 & 6 rounders, not 15 round sluggfest.

I hate to use the "you don't know boxing" line but in this instance it is warranted. Your lacking a basic understanding of how lower level boxing works. As Yoitsdan said, boxing needs opponents, it needs people like Strickland. He and Peter Buckley stick out like sore thumbs with their resumes and fair play to them for it. They are the only two I can think of off my head with records like that and there is a reason for it, they are really good at what they do.
They don't get hit a lot, they don't get hurt, they go the distance and show some young upstart a trick or two along the way.
For what its worth your not the first person to post Strickland or Buckley's record and look in horror.
Check out Buckleys record, you will see many many well known names all in the infancy of their careers http://www.boxrec.com/boxer_display.php?boxer_id=3372

yeah.....it was like 6 months ago or so.....He loses by UD's all the time...but doesnt get KO'd or knocked down...so he must not be taking horrific beatings.....
-
Re: HE should be stopped!!!
As long as he isn't getting constantly knocked out or hurt than its not a big issue IMO. I've seen worse. There was one guy who was something like 0-32 with 32 knockout losses (most of which in the first few rounds) and he was still fighting. That was just bad

Fighters like this keep the fight game alive not kill it !!
Every promoted from Alaska to the York Hall needs these guys they are the lifeblood of this once great sport .
-
Re: HE should be stopped!!!
At least Buckley started out at 17-10-4!
maybe give a guy 20 or so losses after that then start taking a hard look at the guy. Hey hey didn't want to give Evander Holyfield a license! He's 40-8-2 and ony 2 Tko losses! Its supposed to be a competitive sport. Save the "sparring" for in the gym.
-
Re: HE should be stopped!!!
A young fighter could gain some valuable rounds and experience in the ring fighting a defense journeyman of 300+ fights.
You dont fight 300+ fights and not have a certain sense of experience. It's a good test for youngsters to learn a few things.
Props to this guy for helping develop the game for youngins.

Re: HE should be stopped!!!
There is two sides to this discussion.
1) Boxing does need the "opponent" fighters, ones that will get in there and give a guy some rounds without the chance of the "opponent" doing any serious damage to him. And to fill in as late subs. Boxing would not be what it is if not for these type of fighters. They are a necessary evil for the sport.
2) His record is a little worrisome, at some point he has been hit and hurt. How often only those close to him can say. But it is completely up to him and the people around him to make the decision if and when he hangs them up. We can only hope he has the right people by him.
On a side note his fights have to suck to watch. I have read that he only back pedals away and avoids any type of confrontation. I am sure he knows a few tricks but not too sure if he uses them.
Unfortunately there is nothing in place for boxing to force the fighters to go through some type of rigerous physical to make sure they are mentally and physically able to withstand the punishment of the sport. Untill some type of National or World commision comes into control there is not much to stop fighters from continueing to fight without someont to stop them from themselves.

look at this guy. he's never seen the ring card girl more than twice.

But despite Strickland's fresh face and survival skills, the scorecards provide damning evidence against him. Now competing as a junior middleweight, Strickland has a 61-248-15 ring record, including a 3-10 mark this year..."
He takes 500 bucks cash(at the least) to stay in a shell all night and not get hurt. Losing kept the bills paid for a long time, almost 20 years for Reggie. That's not bad if you ask me. He is a professional opponent. If he was fine with himself, then more power to him. I've seen him fight a few times before. Someone put a few of his fights on Putfile a while back. Nothing much. He's just a jobber. You come across them a lot, most people just aren't content with that role and don't fight on. He was. More power to him. And at the end of the day, he could say he fought and won 66 times. How many people can say that?

Peter Buckley couldn't hold Reggie Strickland jock strap

Re: HE should be stopped!!!
Presumably because you have a vice like grip on it eh?
-
Re: HE should be stopped!!!
If he can pass all the physicals and all the tests that the rest of the fighters pass in order to fight. Then there is no reason why he shouldn't be able compete!! It is not our job or anyone Else's to judge a fighter. His performances may not be that great, but he is able to go the distance against some ok prospects as mentioned earlier. If he chooses to box that is his choice and his choice alone until he fails a prefight physical or test.

Re: HE should be stopped!!!
The guy fights every 2 weeks on average. Obviously he's making a living. If he's not getting hurt, let him do his thing. I am sure that promoters have him on speed dial if they need a last minute replacement. No promoter would use him if he was completely horrible.
There's a kid that's always on espn fnf's. He's only like 22yrs old and has like 50 fights, most of them losses. But they keep putting him on cause he puts on a decent show. Like Teddy says, they put up some opposition, but just don't try to win cause they are used to losing and they would rather make sure they don't get hurt cause they got a fight next week.

Re: HE should be stopped!!!
If you examine his record closley, you will find that he is seldom stopped. Reggie Strickland has fought an incredible number of rounds, albeit losing ones, but few can ever take him out. I say no, he should not be stopped.

Re: HE should be stopped!!!
Try coaching a football (or whatever) team for 12,15 or so straight losses year after year.....No other sport....
Its just NOT NESSASARY
-
Re: HE should be stopped!!!
hasnt been stopped in 9 years
-
Re: HE should be stopped!!!
has he had a win in 9 years? LOL!
whats his record in the last 9??
15-300??
Its a sad display!
Imagine if a basketball team came out against a group of midgits!
a drag race against a guy on a bicycle
swim race against a guy with no arms
Its just stupid. I'd be pissed of to pay money to watch some guy with 300+ losses lay down..Id boo the winner off the canvas.

buckley won 6 in a row early in his career, but i'm sure he makes a better living losing than winning. and he's boxed 5 or 6 world champions

Re: HE should be stopped!!!
man that guy has fought well too many times and lost. and the money he gets for the fights cant be that good because of his record. he should hang them up
