Winky Wright Vs Joe Calzaghe
Winky should move up a weight and fight Joe Calzaghe at Super Middleweight.
Winky culd beat Joe on points. Joe cannot win all the time and Winky is
a good defensive fighter. ::**

Re: Winky Wright Vs Joe Calzaghe
Joe Calzaghe is too big and has an output that Winky cannot match....Calzaghe would decision Winky handily and maybe even stop him late on IMO....
-
Re: Winky Wright Vs Joe Calzaghe
Calzaghe to big for winky.Winky had trouble with Taylor and to move up again to SMW would be just to big a step.Calzaghe takes a UD,dont c Calzaghe stoping him Calzaghe dont stop many these days and against a very good defensive fighter i dont see him stopping Wright.

Re: Winky Wright Vs Joe Calzaghe
Very winnable fight for Winky. Joe has looked ordinary against ordinary opposition so many times. He did look like Superman against Lacy, but I suspect that was good night for him and a bad night for Lacy. I see Winky exposing Joe C. en route to a fairly convincing decision. And yes, I realize Winky is a blown up 154 pounder. He's just that good, and 160-168 is where he needs to be for the money fights. Unless The DeLa and or PBF stay at 154 and remain active.

Does Winky really have the ability to deal with the output, skill and of course the extra weight of someone like Joe Calzaghe?
I find that to be very questionable. How would he expose Calzaghe exactly?

Re: Winky Wright Vs Joe Calzaghe
calzaghe would win. winky can't keep up with the pace that joe sets and i can see calzaghe stopping him. winky is good defencivley but i dont think he would have an answer to some of the shots joe would throw at him.
i cant remember the name of the fighter but there was another southpaw that dropped winky about 4 or 5 times on the way to the final bell. i can see calzaghe being way to big, strong and busy for winky.

One needs to take into account Joe's brittle hands though.
Calzaghe only has an inch in height and an inch of reach on Wright.
I would love to see this fight brilliant offense vs. brilliant defense.
For me this would be a pick'em.

Re: Winky Wright Vs Joe Calzaghe
Joe would win .
Too fast , too busy ,too skillfull and above all far far too strong .

I'm not trying to call you out on anything, but have you ever seen Joe fight someone with a good defense?

But to be fair to Swashbuckling Gordy (and it is a very fine and dandy name!) his points do outline 3 parts of why Calzaghe clearly has the edge....

Have you ever seen Wright in with anyone of JC superstars strength ,skill ,speed and business ?
Lets face it WW record has been built on nearly men and whilst Joe hasn't always impressed when the time came to stand up and be counted against Lacy he stormed through the breech proving beyond all question his class.
He may have trouble with Brittle hands but is has not hindered his Boxing ability and against Sakio Bika ( one dangerous motherlover ) he lacked some sharpness .
Taylor had Wright in trouble frequently and JC matches Wright in Personal stats unlike Mosely and Quartey who were coming of losses and activity .

That being said it is hard to judge right
I've never seen Winky take on anyone with Joe's abilities.
I've never seen Joe take on anyone with Winky's defense.
both are valid points.
Winky has beat Shane Mosley, Felix Trinidad, Sam Solimon and Ike Quartey
Joe has beat Jeff Lacy

hate when people say joe has only beat lacy; anyone who truly watched the eubank fight would of seen for one a very green calzaghe fighting a very Exp eubank. now i will never say the same eubank turned up as the one in prime who fought benn and watson, but by christ did eubank put on a very very good performance. after the first round knock down eubank gained 5 years and fought a very good fight, calzaghe walked through ALOT of big hits, was in the ring with a very ring smart fighter and it was a hell of a win.
byron mitchel was no chump, was no P4P fighter either, but to batter him in 4 rounds was no easy task, joe did that.
I love winky alot, but joe wins this in a fairly one sided UD or tko - winky has bery little to bring to this fight. his lack of power, and joes superb chin (imo) means winky wont hurt him, i dont think calzaghe has the power he used to, but fired up we have seen how he can work every second for 12 rounds, winky would be in trouble. IMo taylor would of won that fight if he wasnt so lazy and took so many breaks and i rate clazaghe higher than taylor in speed, power, jab, angles, ring smarts, inside work.

I don't know if he would stop Winky but I agree,JC has the style to beat Winky, the speed, awesomely fast hands, and power. JC looks average against average opponents,I think he is energised by the big fights. Whether anyone likes it or not,ALOT of people thought Jeff Lacy would hurt JC,would expose this "over rated " boxer, yet JC put on one of the finest boxing performances I have ever seen. He just needs to ride the momentum more, which, for whatever reason is not happening but he needs to get B Hop,JT,Winky, one of these guys in the ring and make another statement otherwise, the critics will remain. He beats all 3 imo,and I am not his biggest fan at all,I just appreciate awesome boxing skills when I see them and hehas them. That fight against Lacy was the complete boxing performance imo, showing offence AND (often forgotten by viewers) defence. He was elusive. Lacy didnt' land anything noteworthy.1006 punches? WTF!!!! 7 hit combos in round 10?!?!Awesome!

Re: Winky Wright Vs Joe Calzaghe
This woulb be a great technician fight, I dont see it ending early. I would give the edge to Joe, because I think he has a little more power than Winky, the question would be can he get through that defense. The question for Winky would be can he score enough and make Joe look bad with his d. Too close to call, would be another great fight. Calzaghe definately needs to get a few fights over here in the U.S. how can you be so unknown with a 42-0 record, would help his image alot.
-
Re: Winky Wright Vs Joe Calzaghe
Jermain Taylor is as big as Calzaghe, and he didn't stop Winky or even hurt him... I don't think Calzaghe will either... Winky's jab will be very effective, and, yes, he can match Calzaghe's output... he nearly threw 1200 punches in his last fight against a better defensive fighter... Calzaghe doesn't throw as much against better opposition.
-
Re: Winky Wright Vs Joe Calzaghe
Wright would take Calzaghe to school. It'll be a shut out points win for Wright.
-
Re: Winky Wright Vs Joe Calzaghe
I mean calzaghe is awesome but I'm gettin kind of sick of him, manfredo uuuugh. I like winky but I think going to smw be to much for the guy, and I'd take calzaghe by ud, I don't see winky gettin knocked out.

El Gamo , truly you are the king of men !!
I've never seen Wright turn in a performence like that against anyone he is effective technically correct but Joe is an another leauge alltogether !!
People forget that Lacy was RED HOT but now he is a complete shadow of the man that stepped into the ring !!
It was a great performence it had everything you could want from an offensive masterclass and as El Gamo rightly points out great defence .
Joe was focused that night and for the 1st 6 rounds his balance was spot on he threw his punches without leaning over as sometimes does when he is'int focused ala Mittchell.
Wright is a good fighter but simply put not even on the same page as Joe in any department , temprement, skill , speed , effective aggression and self belief.
Joes greatest attribute is his utter self belief i use to think he was cocky but since i met him i just came to realise he is incredibly self confident and just believes ij himself .
He is the Jewel of British sport and in my opinion the best fighter in the world .

Re: Winky Wright Vs Joe Calzaghe
Calzaghe TKO or UD, too busy for Winky !
Winky has great great defence, but can he defend for 1000 punches and 12 rounds while still doing enough to win?
unlikely I reckon
-
Re: Winky Wright Vs Joe Calzaghe
Quite possible that Calzaghe would break his hand on Wright's arms or elbows and the fight would either be stopped or Joe would get outboxed
-
Re: Winky Wright Vs Joe Calzaghe
This is the grossest misjudgement of a boxer I have ever witnessed:
"Wright is a good fighter but simply put not even on the same page as Joe in any department , temprement, skill , speed , effective aggression and self belief."

I believe you're right about Joe's brilliant offense and Winky's brilliant defence but the way Winky just covers up when his opponent is firing shots will give Calzaghe too much encouragement. Winky tends to not throw back until his opponent has finished his combination and i just feel Calzaghe would have too much of an output for Winky to gain any sort of control in the fight. Plus i think Calzaghe is a bit too big with him being tight at super middle.

LMAO,thanks bro! I say tit how I see it regardless of whether I like the fighter or not. I'm more of a Winky fan than a JC fan but Winkys style can only get him so far as he moves up in weight and JC is under rated in the strenght department,he managed to tie Lacy up easily in their fight and Jeff is a monster!

Also take into consideration the trouble Winky had dealing with Soliman's punch output. Then add Calzaghe's size, speed and power advantage. Style wise its a bad fight for Winky and Calzaghe is probably too big for Winky anyway.

Re: Winky Wright Vs Joe Calzaghe
Winky could be getting a fight with B-Hop, that would be huge. I dont even know where to begin, I wonder what weight they would agree on, and how that would factor in the fight.

Yeah because he would catch Joe with a jab and a straight left in between those "100 punch flurries"

I can see that happening . I duno about Winky outboxing Calzaghe though . Joe has a very highworkrate and is much the much bigger man . He is strong at supermiddle and I think he'd make a strong light heavy . Winky was beaten at light middle by guys like Vasquez Vargas a Simon so he may have trouble imposing his style on Joe like he did against Taylor .
I think Soliman fight was a good indication on how Winky would try to fight Joe .

Re: Winky Wright Vs Joe Calzaghe
joe is not gonna throw a 1000 punches thats a overstatement he couldn't even do that against bica, or whatever that unkwon fighter joe struggle with in his last fight, against winky or any true elite average joe is gonna look like an amature.
winky would school him, james toney would embarrASS him, and roy would bend him over and make him take it up the A$$. ooh and bhop would pick him apart silly.
and thanks for the sad clicks after reading this, you average joe fans, alteast have some balls to say something though instead of just sad clicking.
