NEED HELP! WITH MY DVD-BURNER......(2/18/07)
Got a question hope someone can help me out.....
I just installed my external Hard drive to my notebook,
How do I transfer my files (fights) from my notebooks hard drive to the external one?
I mean freakin' clueless here.

Re: SOMEBODY HELP!!!!!!!!!!
I've read the manual several times but theres nothing on there.
The only thing that comes to mind is clicking my computer and then clicking on drive (e) which is the external drive and which takes me inside the actual drive, make that screen smaller (not minimize)
THEN
Click on my computer find the folder in which I have my fights and make that scren smaller and drag the folder into the hard drive screen?
Make sense?
FWOCK!!! >:mad Not sure if that will work or if it can harm the external drive by just dragging stuff into it.....

Re: SOMEBODY HELP!!!!!!!!!!
I don't own a laptop but I have 3 external hard drives which I connect to my desktop pc via usb or firewire.
I just highlight the files I want to copy by holding Ctrl and clicking on the files and then just drag them onto the external drive, Usually :F :G and :H
Thats all you have to buddy, don't worry you cant damage anything by doing that.

Oh and what you said about opening two windows, one for your external and one where your files are and dragging over is absolutely correct ;)

Re: SOMEBODY HELP!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks bilbo :)
Kinda had a feeling on that but wasn't sure man!!!
;D

Re: SOMEBODY HELP!!!!!!!!!!
OK....
I figured out how to transfer the files into the external hard drive... at least I think cause it took about an hour as it appeared it was copying the files......
I closed the external drive and I re-opened it to double check and make sure the files were there but I don't see them.
I also wen't to my computer and clicked on (E) drive the external drive and theres a few folders there but none contain my files. ???
It appeared that I was doing well, but when I go look for a file on drive (E) on the external drive theres a new folder with todays date but inside I don't see the fights anywhere? ???
Theres a bunch of files there but in a different format not in the wmv or avi file format.
Is this the way that the external drive stores the files?
Or do I have to keep looking for the files as I had them on my notebook in wmv & avi format?
SOMEBODY HELP!!!!

Re: SOMEBODY HELP!!!!!!!!!!
Hmmm, are you sure you have copied the files? Turn off the external hard drive and try again? Or lok everywhere withing your external hard drive to see where you have put the files. ThTs strange! You didn't turn off the external hard drive whilst you were copying the files did you?
-
Re: SOMEBODY HELP!!!!!!!!!!
I am not really sure but could it be the way the external hard is formatted?
Not sure if that matters but I think most external hard drives come pre-formatted in FAT32.
If it comes pre-formatted to FAT32 for compatablity. If you're running Windows XP converting it to NTFS is reccomended and doesn't take much effort. Control Panel > Admin Tools > Computer Managment > Storage > Disk Managment. Right click the drive and format. Due to it's size, I'd recommend a quick format. All the full format does is search for bad sectors on the disk and recover/disable them.
I am not saying this is the problem. I am just thinking outloud here.
Or you should visit the site and then check their forum for support. Not sure what to tell you.

Re: SOMEBODY HELP!!!!!!!!!!
Danny G is rght, just reformat to NTFS and try again.
If the files look different on your external it's probably just because whatever program you have associated them with on your comp won't be installed on your portable hard drive.
For example a windows media file won't show as a windows media file on your external if you don't have windows media installed on your external drive, as it cannot associate a file to a program it doesn't know about.
But don't worry the file is still the same and will play fine once you drag it onto a harddrive with windows media.

Re: SOMEBODY HELP!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks to all of you man! really....
Danny_G & bilbo you guys are right as last night I did it with 1 video.
Meaning I transfered 1 video from my notebooks hard drive to the external one dated it different deleted the video from my notebooks drive and then restored it back and it appeared.
So yeah! the external drive is storing the files in a NBP format since as bilbo stated it don't recognize wmv & or avi formats.
El Gamo thanks for taking the time.
CC's all around. :)

Re: NEED HELP! WITH MY DVD-BURNER...... NOW (2/18/07)
OK.... belive me I wish I could re-pay you guys in other ways (NOT IN THAT WAY Danny_G :bananasex: :-\ ;D )
THE BEST THAT I CAN DO AND WHAT I GOT TO OFFER ARE :coolclick: 's FOR ALL OF YOU WHO TAKE THE TIME TO HELP ME OUT.....
Here I go....... :-\
I just got a DVD-Burner this is what I got....
LiteOn EZ-DUB
I already installed it (using the provided disc) I got a few questions....
1. Theres 2 other CDs one is 'Nero' the other is 'Cyber Link' Power DVD. The instructions DO NOT instruct me to install theses 2 programs. Do I have to OR are these just extra programs that if I wan't I could install BUT I don't have to? Anyone know what they are for?
So Installed the burner and followed all instructions, to begin burning all you have to do is drag the file into the screen and then insert blank disc and all that. I burned a few fights into a blank disc (with enough space (I'm not that stupid) to hold up the fights) I dragged the files inserted the disc did everything, I saw as the files where being copied/burned.
The screen prompted task complete the disc ejected itself. I took it out and tried to play it EVERYWHERE around my house and I mean in about 5 different DVD devices and no luck. :( Not even my notebook played the disc, when I inserted the disc into my notebook it did nothing normally a screen comes on and asks me how I wan't to view the items in the disc. So then I wen't to my computer and then wen't to drive (e) which is where the disc was at and I clicked on it and the files that I had burned were there I tried playing them from there (right click open) and it worked. So the files were burned into the disc.
2. WHAT THE FWOCK! HAPPENED? IS THERE SOMETHING I'M MISSING?
Any feed back that I can get so that my fights can be played on DVD players around my house would be really appreciated...... Heres some general info.....
- I know that certain DVD players aren't compatable with playing burned fights BUT I've played a shit load of burned movies on all of my DVD Players at home they always work at least on 1.
-The only type of files I have are avi, wmv, mpeg and DivX.
- On 3 of the 5 DVD players that I put the disc in, the screen showed the files there but they wouldn't play.
Heres the item I purchased.....
http://us.liteonit.com/us/index.php?...194&Itemid=187
Heres the breakdown of the item with more advanced info... for some reason, I got a GUT feeling somewhere in this link is what I need to look at I just don't see it..... :-\

Hey CutMeMick. The reason they didn't play on anything is almost certainly because the fights you burned were in either .avi or mpeg format. divx and xvid are also classed as .avi.
Anyway unless a dvd player is capable of playing divx and mpeg files you won't get these to work on your dvd player, you will need to convert them to dvd format first!
As Danny_G said ConvertXTODVD is the easiest program to do this. You literally just open the program, select add files. Stick the files you want to copy into the program and then hit the Convert button!
Before you do though, go into the authoring tab and make sure it is set for slow encoding/high quality to get the best results. That is literally all you have to do!
There is a simple process for making a menu if you wish. You can add you own picture background and tell it set chapters every 3 minutes, 5 minutes whatever.
Finally when it is encoded, you can select burn dvd and burn your newly created dvd files from the program itself.
Honestly buddy it's really really easy, and does a great job of converting. The quality is great, and it encodes everything.
Doesn't matter if you mix xvids with mpegs, pal with NTSC or 4:3 video with 16:9, the program converts it all automatically.
Great program, noob friendly and practically idiot proof. You could train a monkey to use it. ;)

During the time that you sent me the program via megaupload I had also downloaded the same program off the inernet, well I got sooo mixed up that I deleted one, (why I don't remember) but then I downloaded another one thinking the one that I had was the one you had sent me...... To make a long story short all this time I was installing the one I got off the internet which was a trial version....... Out of curiosity, I just downloaded the program again (the onw you sent) and followed the instructions again and it voila!! it was there.....
So I wasn't getting the bones & skull cause it wasn't the full program :(
