'Battle of the Jr's, who do you think will make the biggest impact'
So I was doing some searching and noticed how many Jr's we have in the sport at the moment..... Then started thinking which one of these kids was gonna have the bigger impact on the sport not necessairly bigger then their pops but just a bigger impact then the rest....
So heres a list of the Jr's I happened to come across and what I think about them.....
Jorge Paez Jr. (12-0) - Developing well, great reflexes moves well in the ring with just 12 fights quality of opposition is as good as it could be, hes already faced 1 other undefeated fighter he has good power in both hands.
Pipino Cuevas Jr. (10-0) - I read he packs a punch and has a really good work rate, quality of opposition could be better.
James McGirt Jr. (13-0) - Good skills, moves well and plus he uses his height to his advantage, hes a southpaw which has made it difficult for his opponents to hit him. Quality of opposition is as good as it could be.
Julio C. Chavez Jr. (29-0-1) - Nice work rate, likes to attack the body and can punch. He needs to work on his defense and how to use the ring, though I can tell you now and you can see this when you see him fight he fights very similar to JCC Sr. Considering no amateur back ground the quality of opposition is OK, it could be better IMO.
Ronald Hearns (13-0) - Good hand speed, packs a punch and uses the ring well. Quality of opposition is good, it could be better. He uses his reach and height well.
Roberto Duran Jr. (5-1) - From what I read he started off really well, he moved well in the ring used his jab a lot and had good reflexes. I see hes marked 'Inactive' now anyone know why?
Carlos De Leon Jr. (18-1-2) - Can't speak on him as I haven't seen or read anything on him......
Aaron Pryor Jr. (8-0) - From what I've read he boxes well, IMO he started his career a little to late to make any type of impact at some point hes 28 with just 8 fights...
Anyone seen or read anything on him?......
If I'm not mistaken other Juniors BUT don't quote me on this....
Ross Minter (16-1) - Haven't seen or read about him.... sorry! :(
Anyone else got any Jr's they've seen or read about?

Re: 'Battle of the Jr's, who do you think will make the biggest impact'
Wierd you would make this today. I found this yestarday under Ronald Hearns' wiki. Gives a complete list of all the children of all the famous fighters.

It's wierd, all I'm pasting is
Code:
http://www.boxrec.com/media/index.php/Category:Children_of_Famous_ Boxers
but it's posting that. Let's try it again.
http://www.boxrec.com/media/index.ph...ren_of_Famous_ Boxers
Don't know if that works or not. If not just copy what I pasted earlier.

Re: 'Battle of the Jr's, who do you think will make the biggest impact'
Yeah! thanks it worked the 1st time, as I copied and pasted it... then wen't to the home page and found the link... :)

Re: 'Battle of the Jr's, who do you think will make the biggest impact'
Alright good to hear you got it working. Pretty cool page. Anyways....
James McGirt Jr.
From what I saw he was a very schooled fighter, southpaw very sound defensively. Well balanced, good defense. To be honest the memory is a little fuzzy, just going off a round by round I wrote. I do remember being impressed though.
Ronald Hearns
Seen one Hearns fight. Man, I wasn't impressed at all. I mean, he is very athletic, has a great jab, but he is just so off balance with that straight right. That looks to be his most powerful weapon and, I really think he is going to get flattened if he doesn't stop lunging with that. There is no way he can follow that up with anything because he has to get his feet set again. Not very big on him til he can control that right hand.
Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.
Throws a really good straight right hand and an even better left to the body. Puts the two together a lot, makes a deadly combo. I think the most telling fights are probably the Molina (I think that's his name?) but I haven't seen them. Still green though and has a long ways to go before he is a contender but he's young so no big deal.

Re: 'Battle of the Jr's, who do you think will make the biggest impact'
Julio Cesar Chavez Jr wins out in my opinion, he has improved quite a bit over the last few years ! the rest of the Jr's lack something, in my opinion.. they just riding daddy's star !

Funny you mention JCC jr; I've seen a couple of his fights over the past few months on VS and was wondering why nobody ever mentioned him. With JCC having a huge legacy and his son starting out 29-0-1 I thought there would be a lot of talk about him, but I didnt even know he was a fighter until a few months back. It seems like he's getting his record nice and padded right now; but 30 fights and being undefeated aint too shabby for being 20 years old! I watched him beat up on a few guys who a 29-0 fighter shouldnt even be lookin at, but I guess since he is only 20 it makes it alright. Btw cc lords.. I cc you all the time man, love what you got to say!

Jorge Paez Jr, IMO isn't riding daddys star I say this for a few reasons....
1. When he was looking for promoters he didn't wan't his dad to accompany him or anything like that...
2. You rarely see or hear about Sr. being at his fights but Jr never forgets to say hello to him....
I like both Paez & Chavez Jr's.....

Well, I think since Manny already has Rahman Jr (who hasn't fought pro by the way) and Andy Lee, plus Kermit Cintron and not to mention the big stars he has, hes pretty much booked up to his neck.....
I still don't understand how the Kronk Gym closed..... :(

Good point about Peaz Jr.. I am not all that impressed with Peaz Jr. admittedly I only seen a few fights I didn't think he was all that they were hyping. Time will tell O0

Re: 'Battle of the Jr's, who do you think will make the biggest impact'
The best up and coming "Jr" hands down is the kid Darnell Jiles Jr, seen him a few times on Espn friday night boxing and oh my lord the kid is gonna be very special, i'd back him to beat anyone of that list and he's only 18, those who have seen him may be inclined to suggest he's a little "flashy" but imo he's got everything in his game,
Confidence
Speed
Technical ability
Power
movement
Decent defence
And he can punch from some mad angles man ;D, i think he's a cert to be a champion with-in 3 years,
peace

Re: 'Battle of the Jr's, who do you think will make the biggest impact'
The only fighter I have been keeping my eye on is Paez Jr but he leaves a lot to be desired when it comes into comparison to his father. :( I really enjoyed Sr's fights. He was entertaining, put on a good show and had some pretty good fights too. I know I said I would up some fights and I will. I am upping some fights right now and I will get to that for ya Mick. His son to me looks sloppy, wild and wide and lacks some stamina the verdict is still out since he only has 12 fights but I don't see nothing happening here and as soon as he steps up I think he is going to get stepped on.
Was not impressed with JCC JR. so I passed on watching him. Am I missing something here? His father he ain't.
BTW CC 4 the thread CMM

you can see major improvement in his last few fights. nice body work, throws punches with good leverage, I think he will have some success in the future . O0

Chavez Jr Highlights
Granted most of his opponents are soft, you can still see the potential . nice body work , and good crowd pleasing aggression - enjoy O0

Well JCC fights very similar to his pops and that hook to the body is really nice if he can continue to improve he'll do well.....

Re: 'Battle of the Jr's, who do you think will make the biggest impact'
JCC jnr is very good all round, and Paez jnr has a big bang, he's a real firecracker to watch. McGirt Jnr I haven't seen, Ronald Hearns I saw once and looked good.

Ah, good stuff bro ham. I would CC you but I already CC'd you on another post where you have been very active;) TY.
The kid looks good and he looks like his daddy from behind.
I guess he will step it up and have more 8 and 10 round fights. He looks really good but I heard he was all hype and like you said his opp has been soft and I guess I had to look on BR to confirm. 20 yrs old has plenty of time to make a nice run. How is his chin? You have been following his career real close?

Well when he 1st started off he was talked about often it's not until he got the draw against Molina that the talk stoped which IMO to be honest is good for him....
The kid had sooooo much pressure in the begining of his career and I honestly think that the draw took off a lot of pressure off of him as people who saw the fight have payed less attention to him..... As I said thats less media and yet he can still be JCC Jr. without the pressure.....
He'll still draw attention and if he can keep up the good work he'll reach Championship level.....

Re: 'Battle of the Jr's, who do you think will make the biggest impact'
Yea Darnell Jiles Jr. looks to be a very hot prospect. Just fought on FNF last week, after they aired Guinn vs Lawrence... Im not familiar with his father either but that's probably more reason that he'll succeed, considering there's really never been a GREAT fighter who had a son which also became so, least not that I know of. Not that it won't happen, just you could imagine the pressure on a kid who really has very little chance of ever equalling his pops. Anyways, Jiles Jr. is definetly one to watch though. I thought he could tone down the flashy stuff as well, but he's only 18, theres so much room to improve.. The kid is FAST. I saw some big combinations from him, as many as 7 or 8 punches. Full of potential for sure.
-
Re: 'Battle of the Jr's, who do you think will make the biggest impact'
Well, the thing with JCC Jr. as I pointed out he doesn't have amateur background and jumped straight into the pros. so I guess that side can come into play....
-
Re: 'Battle of the Jr's, who do you think will make the biggest impact'
Hey does anyone know why JLC Jr. doesn't have any amatuer background?? Seems really odd to me... I think for the simple reason that he doesn't, it's perfectly valid that there isn't much hype around him. There shouldn't be. His father wasn't a known entity until he had something like 60 fights... He didn't have an amatuer career either. But in his son's case I dont really understand why...

Do you mean JCC Jr.?
If so, thats because in Mexico it's NOT really a thing to be an amateur.
MAB turned pro at age 16, Erik at age 17 and many others.....
There WAS a lot of hype around JCC Jr. but as I said in my previous post once he fought to a draw and had close fights the hype toned down which as I said I think it's good for him as there is less pressure.....
JCC Sr. became a champ at 44-0 by wining the WBC title from 'Azabache' Martinez in an aswome fight here at the World Famous Olympic Auditorium and he was pretty known at that time....

Re: 'Battle of the Jr's, who do you think will make the biggest impact'
At 42-2-1 Hector Camacho's Kid must have proven that he's the best of the Juniors so far.
Maybe not a super super star but a good Pro and a chip off the old block
like his dad, makin the best of what he's got!

No he isn't. He has tremendous elusiveness and is pretty fast, but he is lazy. If he were an active puncher, still defensive minded but an active puncher, he might actually be half a factor in the division. One of the bigger bust in recent memory imo. He's got the bloodlines, the defense, the movement, the amateur background but hasn't shown any hunger in the pro ranks.

Couldn't disagree more at 42-2-1 he hasn't even fought for any type of title that matters.....
Not only that but he never looks in shape and IMO is content with just fighting off his fathers name.....
Hes the best of the Jr's at having more fights but thats about it.....

Honestly, the guy really impressed me for an 18 year old. The natural tools seem to all be there, and he is very athletic. It's almost a curse to hope for greatness from a prospect due to the intagibles of the sport, but he impressed me as much as any prospect Ive seen in a while. Just the fact that he's so young and theres so much room to develop his skills. Because his ability is there. I also thought it was a good opponent they put him in with, a much older, tough guy who wasn't going anywhere and tried to rough him up, just the kind of acid tests a young pro needs... Obviously he could face alot better opposition but there's no reason to yet. Im not going to predict anything as far as what I expect, because every fighter is brought up differently anyways.. But, I doubt many elite fighters today looked as good as he does at 18, he's one to watch. Have a cool click, welcome to the forum.
