Top Rank Promotions confirmed the story posted in Puerto Rican newspaper "Primera Hora" printed today. Brooklyn's own, Zab Judah is on the front burner for the June 9th date at Madison Square Garden now that it appears Antonio Margarito will not be going up against Cotto as originally planned. The likelihood of that Cotto/Margarito fight happening hinges on an unsigned contract that apparently Margarito is still walking around with. But as for now it seems as though that piece of paper will remain without a signature.

Look for Cotto vs. Judah this Puerto Rican Day in New York!

As I've said in other threads, despite all the times Judah has screwed up, he is still a very talented fighter and I would look forward to seeing him in the ring with Cotto, especially in NYC because the atmosphere would be great.
Cotto's body attack vs. Judah's speed and movement would be an interesting clash of styles. I actually think Judah's style could give Cotto more problems than Margarito's could. And that's not a knock against Margarito, it's just that styles make fights, and I don't think Margarito's style would work against Cotto.

Yeah, Juda, for as long as he could keep his eye on the ball, would be a real threat to Cotto.

Sorry Mick, but it really is a "roll-of-the-dice" situation. ;)

it would be too much pressure for little Zab and he'll just crumble up mentally again and either get KO'd or get himself DQ'd, like i've said before....Judah=mini Tyson

Oh no...they put a bigger fight in front of Zab. Now he's gonna slip up on Friday night fights ;D

if would Judah wasn't such an screw up i would have no problem picking him in this fight. Judah's stupidity makes this pretty much and even fight.

I still dont think that Judah will have the will power to stay in the fight after he starts to taste Cotto body shots. He has proven time again that he is mentally unable to stay in the moment and do what needs to be done in front of him. I would look for him to look so-so in his up coming fight, great chance this could another Baldomir situation.

Just the thought of this brings me to a question. Has the welterwieght division ever been this deep with so many good fighters (prospective fighters?)

I think the quality was better in the mid-to-late 90s. You had an old Whitaker still hanging on as the champ, and young guys like DLH, Trinidad, Quartey, and Oba Carr coming up. Luckily for the fans, most of those guys ended up fighting each other. Hopefully the same thing happens with the current group.

Honestly I don't know. That all depends on what Zab Judah shows up that night. I don't see Zab as a threat. Cotto will make a huge statement and destroy Zab and show folks how champions close deals.

by the way.. what the hell happened to Mosley - Cotto... ???

Not sure what happend to Mosley. I was unaware he was dying to lose but I guess he will just have to stand in line and wait for his beating just like the rest of the Welters then Arum will have to throw some cheese in Floyds direction and see if he can catch the little rat before he tries to jump back down to 140 bypassing the Welters and playing possum.

Which Cotto opponents have you considered to be a threat to him?? Because that's what being p4p is all about right? Taking risks?

I think Cotto might be in trouble... If Judah comes in with the same mindset as against Mayweather or SPinks he will beat Cotto... He too fast, and Cotto's jaw also suspect. If Corley can almost ko him imagine Judah hitting him. Kostya Tszyu is in another league than Cotto, and he was faster with straighter, and far better punches. For the Baldomir fight however I have no response except when Judah actually fought he was completely dominatin those rounds.

Yeah that's exaclty it.... I think that Baldomir fight basically made Judah a laughing stock, but in turn, people underrate him because of it... He is labeled as a guy who simply can't fight for more than 6 or 7 rounds, but I think he could surprise alot of people. Against Mayweather he didn't win rounds after 5... But it's Mayweather, he made the adjustements he needed to and outboxed Zab the rest of the way, it's not as if Judah got caught and wen't nuts like against Baldo.. Who knows, I am going to sit on the fence until the day before the fight, either guy could win. For what it's worth, I think Judah is a better boxer than Cotto, and he definetly has the ability to win rounds. How many he can before fading, or whether he simply get's caught with a big shot, is another story. And by the way... Its SO FUKIN ANNOYING WHEN PEOPLE QUOTE A POST WITH A CLIP IN IT. I had to press stop on the clip 3 times while posting this.

Judah will do great the first part of the fight, then Cotto's body shots will start to wear on Judah and he will run. Cotto will wear him out and (T)KO him late.

My only concern is Cotto getting past the first few rounds. Not scared but just concerned because Judah does have a little pop and Cotto has been caught before. Cotto has gotten past it but it still concerns me. Another thing would be that this would be a must win for Judah. If he lost to Cotto there may not be any more coming back for him, he would be relegated to the bottom of the pile.

No one should underestimate Mad Zab! He won four of the first five against Mayweather and was unlucky not to have been given the knockdown in round 2.(Short right landed, glove touched canvas)
Cotto is in for a tough one here and this would not surprise if Zab got up!
Zab on his day can beat anyone if his mind is on the job, trouble is which Zab will turn up on the night.
Good on Cotto for taking this fight though.

i'm going state my right now. even though he's and idiot i like zab judah in this fight.

zab has better defense speed footwork. his power should be respected very much. the last time i saw cotto in with a decent southpaw was when he fought chop chop and he got rocked 2rd. zab has the power and the speed to knock cotto out.

I agree with 'the boxer' totally, Zab is a real chance and this is Cotto's biggest challenge yet.

i glad that cotto is fighting zab. no matter what happens i will still have respect for cotto. but i don't think he can handle zab. i think if he comes straight at zab he might get KOed and if he tries to box he'll get outboxed.

let me add something else. cotto definetley has the power to put zab on his ass and as we've seen in the fight with kostya and baldomir, you don't have to be the fastest fighter in the world to tap his chin.

There is no doubt that Zab has never really recovered from the Kostya KO, his form in the ring these past five years has been more patchy than an American quilt.
Funny how so many people think Zab is a real chance in this fight and yet he may fall flat on his face in his next one.
