Could a case be made for mike tyson being the hardest puncher in history?.
When people are discussing the hardest puncher in heavyweight history names like foreman,shavers and liston come up . but tyson punched much faster than these guys and speed = power.

larry holmes questioned his power . holmes said tyson was a sharp puncher not a hard puncher. peter mcneely said that tysons power was overrated. A lot of the fighters tyson fought said that other fighters hit them harder.

I think McNeeley said Tyson's power was overrated PRIOR to getting dumped at 89 seconds of the first round.

Holmes faced a lot of big punchers in his career. Yet he was only stopped once. By Tyson. Tyson almost killed his lying ass. And for Mcneely? Who gives a fuck what that clown says?

Say what you want about Mike...but he packed a punch. Shavers another one and Marciano another. All had ridiculous power but I don't think anyone has ever hit as hard as Mike.

Despite being mostly an arm puncher, I still say Foreman was the hardest hitter of all time. Mike never destroyed anyone the caliber of Joe Fraizer.

he is one of them--i think that foreman and shavers could hit harder than tyson..its been said a prime tyson(4 arguments sake b4 his jail sentence) was to scared to take on an old foreman.

Tyson was a massive puncher Larry Holmes didnt think he was such a big puncher till he fought him and got knocked out cold in round4

Holmes was 38 years old and inactive when he fought Tyson. I wouldn't use the fact that he was KO'd as the main evidence of Tyson's punching power.
However, Tyson does have to be up there. I think I'd put Foreman #1, but you could make an argument for Tyson.

Foreman was 45 years old when he fought Moorer.
The 25 year old Foreman would've KO'd Moorer in one round.

ive read that as well that tyson was scared of old george foreman but i dont beleive it,no way tyson was scared of a 45 year old ponderous man,look what moorer did to foreman ,tyson would have done a lot worse...............but prime for prime might be a different story,man that would be a war for about 3 or 4 rounds and some one would get killed

The Kinetic (moving)energy of an object is determined as 1/2 Mass X velocity X velocity.
So the speed of a moving mass (a boxing glove and arm) greatly effects the amount of kinetic energy that the head must absorb
The damage (KO) is due to the quick acceleration of the skull,and the resultant concussion between the now moving skull and the still motionless brain.
Tyson had fast punches..no doubt.
BUT theres more to it, the force BEHIND the fist that still pushes the punch forward as it imparts energy to the head.
Technique is a big part as well, utilising the whole body in the delivery,
strong weightlifters can't throw footballs or baseballs very far.
Maybe the word "HARD" is the issue here

Hmmm in comic book history, I think Superman should be the hardest puncher, closely followed by the incredible Hulk.
In boxing, I would rate Foreman as being very heavy handed. IMO, Tyson's power comes from his hips, shoulders and arms working in tandem which accounts for his speed and power. But on arm swing alone, I have Big George leading the pack, closely followed by Ernie Shavers.

I don't think him, Foreman, or Shavers are the hardest punchers ever. Alot of guys have said that Lewis punched harder than Tyson. I think Ibeabuchi would punch harder, and maybe even Tua. It's hard to say because the gloves are getting bigger.

SUperman also has a stress factor that increases his strength or he can jump into the sun and get super charged. Also Thor and Hulk have the same strength, but Hulk has the superior lifting feats.

He sure did punch hard but then again so do most world class heavyweights. Thing is,Tyson in his prime was like a bull and he made things happen......whereas heavyweights today are pretty ponderous. But the punches that land stil provide the same results as they did 20/30/40 years ago.
The only way to settle it realistically would be those arcade punchbags that they have at the seaside ;D

I got 999 on one with a run up when i was in Kavos.
Naz actually fully demolished one with 1 punch. He bought the arcade a new one.
Do you think the scores are random because i saw a video of Calzaghe hitting one and he got 700 which is technically a girls punch.

no i dont think he was the hardest but well above average. He must have been the most explosive puncher though. coming from a small wide frame he just plowed into people. I would think Foreman was still the hardest puncher. Not to mention having the greatest marketing scheme from anyone. A true money machine.
