Re: mike tyson vs riddick bowe
I think the 21 - 22 year old mike would of blasted Riddick out inside 4 rounds, his work rate and power would of been to much for Bowe, and he Bowe did have a habit of being a slow starter, but any Tyson after the Buster Douglas loss, would been taken out by Bowe in the later rounds (8-9) as Tyson lost the work rate, and Bowe was a very crafty fighter with good ring craft and under rated power.
-
Re: mike tyson vs riddick bowe
Primes then its KO 2 Tyson
-
Re: mike tyson vs riddick bowe
-
Re: mike tyson vs riddick bowe
Prime Tyson decisions a defence minded Bowe who has been put off his game by Tysons relentlesness. This is Prime Bowe also of course.
-
Re: mike tyson vs riddick bowe
Really can't call this fight - one of the most intriging matchups possible at Heavy for me
-
Re: mike tyson vs riddick bowe
Tough call, but my gut instincts tell me Bowe stops him middle rounds...
-
Re: mike tyson vs riddick bowe
If they fought in their respective primes, I'll take Bowe.
-
Re: mike tyson vs riddick bowe
The 85-86 version of Mike Tyson would be one hard SOB to beat ! Bowe would likely eat canvas from the all out Tyson blitz, Mike had excellent head movement was very hard to hit while working his way inside behind that hard fast jab. in my opinion Mike would have beat Riddick Bowe, Lennox Lewis, and Evander Holyfield in that 1985-1986 window. after that Mike fell apart got lazyand would have been ripe pickings for all the above. O0

Re: mike tyson vs riddick bowe
I think the problem when discussing Tyson is we knew how good he could have been. He let himself down, in doing so He let Boxing and the fans down. I feel for that fans will never forgive Him, but was He exciting you bet your life He was.

So true.. I always say a Ferrari needs a good tune up and oil changes . it is a high-performance vehicle. neglect it , and it will turn to shit in a jiff ! O0

Re: mike tyson vs riddick bowe
If Bowe trained like he did for the first Holyfield fight, he would have stopped Tyson. One less ounce than his maximum commitment in training and Tyson would get him. It's too bad Bowe's prime only lasted for about 2 or 3 fights. He had skill, size, power, and most importantly, a good stiff jab. At his absolute best, he had enough to keep Tyson off him for the initial onslaught, then take him out about 8 or 9.

Re: mike tyson vs riddick bowe
Riddick Bowe would have whipped Tyson's ass!
You could put a prime AND a post prime Mike Tyson in the ring to tag team Riddick Bowe and Riddick would still win!!!

i think you under rate tyson just a bit,ive read some of your posts on tyson and according to you everyone can whoop prime mike tyson?.........bowe is taylor made for tysons style, tyson wins easy UD with bowe playing defence all night long
-
Re: mike tyson vs riddick bowe
No I am REALISTIC about Mike Tyson.
Riddick Bowe ALWAYS had the style to beat Tyson....AND.....Riddick never got KO'd, and he lost one fight HIS WHOLE CAREER and that was a MAJORITY DECISION.......and he avenged it!!!!!!
Mike Tyson beats a lot of guys but there are a lot of guys he doesn't beat as well, that list includes:
Evander Holyfield
Lennox Lewis
Riddick Bowe
George Foreman
Muhammed Ali
"Not no way, not no how!"

i think mike tyson at his best has a good chance at any of those guys...the only person i have doubts about is cassius clay, the one that whoop the feared sonny liston so easily, but tyson still has a good chance against anyone
-
Re: mike tyson vs riddick bowe
.....no it's 100% certain Tyson would lose to all those guys.
If you don't believe me 'AX' somebody
Mike Tyson didn't like guys who could stick and move and take a punch......and Mike didn't like guys who could out bully him

Because actually it's just the opposite. Bowe is the type of tall, skilled, hard punching big man that would always give Mike his biggest problems. Bowe in his prime was a much, much, much better version of Buster Douglas.

Bowe never got ko'ed because he knew who to avoid. He was very smart in that sense.

Re: mike tyson vs riddick bowe
Well the only one who could have beat Riddick by KO was Lennox Lewis

bowe is a boxer stick and move,he had an excellent jab which would perhaps have mike puzzled for a few rounds but he would eventually catch bow on the inside and no way bowe could take mikes power.....you forget mike fought quite a few boxers in his prime-biggs-tucker-holmes-williams-thomas and had all of them on the run except for williams who try acually fighting tyson and look what happend...And that version of larry holmes would have beatin bowe...........just an opinion ;)
-
Re: mike tyson vs riddick bowe
Riddick never got KO'd......never EVER
and Mike didn't take power very well either.....Frank Bruno wobbled him...Buster Douglas thumped him....Evander dropped his ass.
You're entitled to your opinion.....I just don't think it's a very good one....
and then to say Larry Holmes would have beaten Bowe.....that's re-god-damned-diculous!

sorry but i thought we were talking prime 4 prime? so you cant use the douglas-bruno fights as examples....tysons prime was 86-88 in those 2 sweet years(the rooney years) tyson was awsome ,thats when he hit his peak....if your gonna use douglas ill bring up golota
...... :)
-
Re: mike tyson vs riddick bowe
and yes larry holmes was to much man for bowe
-
Re: mike tyson vs riddick bowe
Too much man how???? Riddick was bigger and hit harder.
And Tyson still had trouble with boxers in 86-88......he didn't fight anyone special in those years

Big difference. None of those guys was anywhere near as good or had nearly as many weapons as Bowe did in his prime. None of those guys you listed is in Bowe's class.
(Obviously Holmes was a great fighter, but we're talking here about an old, shot Holmes.)

No offense, but you're nuts if you think that. Holmes was 38 years old when he fought Tyson. He was a shell of his former self. He would've been KO'd by Bowe as well.

but holmes went on to give holyfield all sorts of trouble when he was even older and more shot as you put it?

they had about the same power, they weighed the same and had the same reach, bowe was just 2 inches taller....holmes fought better competion! who did bowe beat that was good? holyfield thats it and he out wieghed him by about 40 LBS........if bowe fought and beat lewis i would rate him much higher, but the bottom line is he was scared to death of lewis
-
Re: mike tyson vs riddick bowe
....and so was Mike Tyson
Holmes was about 220 in his prime.....Bowe was 235-240
Holmes had 69 wins and 44 KO's....Bowe had 42 wins and 33 KO's....that gives Riddick the edge in fights won by KO
-

If Ali would have been a mute, he wouldn't have been nearly as successful as he was in the ring. He won most of his battles before stepping into the ring.
Tyson had problems with taller fighters? True...that undeniable. I think he would have had a shot against Bowe, but not with a post-Ali Foreman. Nobody in the
current HW division would have had a shot against all of the fighters you just listed.

they wieghed the same, were not talking prime holmes, were talking the holmes that got koed by tyson...and that version of holmes wasnt that much past it compared to the 90's version...i still think holmes wins he had much better jab ,better foot work, better everything,he was a great champion that never got credited as such

In my opinion Lewis in his prime would have knocked Bowe out again as a pro just like he did in the Olympics. !
Lewis at 227 lbs was fast as lighting, had great speed for a heavyweight. and that right hand came off sweet and was very accurate. a shame Lennox put on all that useless weight which took away from some of his assets. I think Lewis would have been far more exciting had he stayed with Pepe Correa.
IMO Manny Stewards teachings are partly to blame for the lack luster decade of heavyweight boxing. Every heavyweight Manny trained went from exciting fighter to hugfest central running and holding as the main tactic as opposed to closing the show ! I seen Manny recently talking to the press about wanting the HW division to comeback to the greatness it once was .. I was thinking to myself " teach your fighters to fight and stop holding on the inside , teach them the art of fighting out of a clinch, rather then look for an opportunity to clinch ! ! LOL

true lords but lewis did get outjabbed by bruno something that bowe would have a shot at doing

holmes wasnt 220 in his prime he got to 220 when he was hitting 32 or 33 in his prime he was about 209 to 215 i believe holmes was never one hit ko artist he used to wear people down with his jab and stop them late on bowe hit alot harder no question

difference is holmes had 2 years ring rust and was on losing streak plus he had 2 weeks to train he did better against holy because he had more time to train and didnt have rust and was on good winning streak recently beating very tough ray mercer
and ill tell you what holy was lucky because holmes was coming on strong last 3 rounds and holy started to look tired i scored it 7 rounds to 5 holy very tough nights work for holy thats for sure

holmes wasnt on a losing streak!...he beat spinks...oh yes he did twice!...and i read a few articles that holmes trained for 6 weeks and if thats true 6 weeks is plenty....perhaps he should of had a couple tune ups ay
but i dont think more training and tune ups would have help holmes much...holmes was to old for young tyson larry would have to be in his prime to beat tyson. O0
