MODIFIED!!! MUST READ!!! Time is running out for Sam Peter's Jackpot offer!!!
Alright...so I am sure that this has probably been done to death...but let's take a poll on the matter of Samuel Peter vs Maskaev vs Vitali.
The WBC #1 ranked heavyweight contender Samuel Peter has been offered $2.5 million by Maskaev's & returning champion Vitali Klitschko's camp in the form of "step-aside" money with a contracted deal to fight the winner soon afterwards. On top of this, Peter has been guranteed a purse split of 50-50 to fight the winner of the May 15th bout.
If he doesn't take this offer it goes to the hands of lawyers & judges & get's stuck in court.
As previuosly discussed...right is right & wrong is wrong & many of us feel that it's wrong for Vitali to just hope right back in the saddle again...but some of you see no issue with it.
Now that this offer is on the table for Peter...what do you think? Vote it out & then explain it.
Just curious where everyone stands on this one.
================================================== ==========
***NEW NEWS ON SAM PETER'S SITUATION***
As widely reported over the past few weeks, Vitali Klitschko and his advisors are engaged in an effort to push Samuel Peter aside and delay the Nigerian’s exercise of his right to fight Oleg Maskaev for the WBC heavyweight title. In support of that maneuvering, the Klitschko and Maskaev camps (in conjunction with the WBC) have publicized a $2,500,000 “step-aside” offer that was supposedly made to Peter. However, it turns out that the offer has some loopholes that make it considerably less generous than advertised.
For example; when the offer was clarified, the Peter camp was told that, if Maskaev-Klitschko never happens (let’s say that Vitali is injured while training and can’t compete), Samuel would receive only $500,000. Then negotiations were put on hold while the Klitschko camp tried to find an insurer who would back a larger number.
“They’re not even telling half-truths,” grumbles one member of Team Peter. “Twenty-percent truths is more like it.”
“That’s Shelly Finkel math,” says Shannon Briggs, who’s still steamed over failed negotiations for a Madison Square Garden title bout against Wladimir Klitschko last year. “Shelly [Klitschko’s advisor] told me I had the fight,” Briggs continues. “He said, ‘It’s not one hundred percent; it’s one thousand percent.’ I don’t know; I wasn’t that good in school. Maybe one thousand percent is less than one hundred percent.”
Meanwhile, there’s another issue regarding the Klitschko-Maskaev-Peter-WBC mess that might surface shortly.
Samuel Peter is one of the two best heavyweights ever to come out of Africa (Ike Ibeabuchi is the other). Were Peter to defeat Maskaev and become WBC heavyweight champion, it would raise the profile of boxing throughout the continent and Samuel would be recognized as a hero.
How long will it be before Don King (Peter’s co-promoter) seizes on that fact and contrasts Samuel’s African heritage with that of Klitschko, Maskaev, and WBC president Jose Sulaiman?
http://www.secondsout.com/USA/news.cfm?ccs=229&cs=21508
I'd like to go ahead & say...I don't know WTF to think now.
Maybe Peter should just fight this & see what kind of ACTUAL guarantees he can get legit.
-
Re: Time is running out for Sam Peter's Jackpot offer...what would you do?
I voted the first option.
Here's the thing...I agree with Peter's team...right is right & wrong is wrong...but this is boxing...& rules are meant to be broken.
Vitali was & still is such a big part of the heavyweight division...even though he's been gone for so long. If I were Peter & I had as much confidence in myself as he does...I'd step aside, take the 2.5 mill, fight some chump, & then take a crack at the winner for a 50-50 split.
Peter will find it hard to make that much cash in a year's time...no matter what other route he travels or any other situation.
$2.5 million is a boatload of cash.
No shame in stepping aside for such...if he does anything less...I'll think that he's foolish...but it's his career, not mine.
Thing is...stop & look at it this way...the 2.5 coupled with the possibility of a future clash against Vitali would be jaw dropping & would/could bank roll him for life.
If Maskaev were to win...& that's a shot in the dark, IWO, then Peter would probably have an easier night with him than the Klit.

Re: Time is running out for Sam Peter's Jackpot offer...what would you do?
This has been a real sore spot for me...
I really feel peter is bieng screwed.. Why can't they just have vitali face the winner of maskaev - peter?
I mean.. Boxing is boxing..Bullshiz comes with boxing sometimes.. But the thing that really pissed me off about this one in particular ..Is that they charged peter twice for the shot that he aint even got..
He's payed the money..Actually beaten My man james this time.. Give him the shot..
I think its fare to say that they are trying to protect maskaev for the obvious fact that both with spark him out..
And the bigger paycheck for maskaev is in the vitali fight..
But if you ask me..What should be done..Honestly...
Triple threat match ;) ;D

Agreed 100%.
Peter is getting the short end of the stick on this one...& the Toney fights...of which I think that he won both. Most disagree there...but that's just boxing.
Good points. :coolclick:

Re: Time is running out for Sam Peter's Jackpot offer...what would you do?
Taking this situation into court would only benefit the lawyers
(no offence to the legal community out there). It's absolutely
a no brainer for Peter to take the loot and wait a few months
to fight the winner of the Maskaev/Klitschko bout.
Tito_BHB Regarding your comment "I really feel peter is
being screwed.. Why can't they just have vitali face the winner
of maskaev - peter?"...Don King would stand in the way of that
happening if Peter were the victorious one in that fight. King has
been noted to say that he will do everything that he can to prohibit
the Klitschko brothers to wear those Championship belts around
their waists.
Vitali doesn't have a lot of fights left in him....let's be honest here.
I'm a fan of the K-brothers, but I know that age, prior injuries and
politics will ultimately limit the time Vitali has left in the boxing arena.
If he doesn't get a quick shot at Oleg and has to wait for Peter,
King knows that delaying that fight would destroy any possibility
of Vitali being as effective as he can be now....
For any of you out there that would consider signing this petition
in support of the Maskaev / Klitschko fight, it would be very much
appreciated. I don't mean to ruffle any feathers out there so
please don't flame me. It's tough enough being a woman at these
boxing forums that wants to contribute and having to withstand the
rubs...

Cc's back and all around :)

Re: Time is running out for Sam Peter's Jackpot offer...what would you do?
If I were Peter, I'd take the step-aside money. Then I'd step in and K Briggs TFO to take his belt, The WBO would probably go for it. They have Peter ranked #2. They just have to wait until after Ibragimov signs with Brock. That way, he can come back and unify against Vitali, probably for 50/50,(cause we all know Maskaev's getting KTFO).
You just have to think outside the box
-
Re: Time is running out for Sam Peter's Jackpot offer...what would you do?
Peter should tell them to shove the money up their asses and never look back at the WBC. This is the third "guarantee." Or take the step aside money and retire from boxing. Wait a few years and then demand your title shot.
If I were Peter I'd leave this crooked ass sport alone.
-
Re: Time is running out for Sam Peter's Jackpot offer...what would you do?
I hate unidentified SC's. I'm creeping up on a hundred, so some of you had better watch out. LOL
-
Re: Time is running out for Sam Peter's Jackpot offer...what would you do?
The deal sounds better with the new offer of 50 percent purse split guarantee for Peter to fight the winner at least on paper . However I think there is a good chance that Vitali and Oleg both would retire after their match-up .. So fuck the offer and go for the gold. Peter has earned is right to fight and has paid his dues twice now !!! I would Fight Maskaev then see if Vitali still wants to come out of retirement and fight me with a 60-40 split in my favor ! O0

Re: Time is running out for Sam Peter's Jackpot offer...what would you do?
If I am Peter; I dont paid my money and I want MY shot right now!!!! Forget about the money get the belt. If I dont get my shot I go to one of the other organizations and get their belt. Peter is getting screwed big on this one. Peter would already have the belt if the WBC hadnt mandated that he face Toney again. It all stinks to me.
-
Re: Time is running out for Sam Peter's Jackpot offer...what would you do?
Peter would already have the belt if the WBC hadnt mandated that he face Toney again. It all stinks to me. Ty
I think Vitali and the WBC were in bed together on this along time ago. I think they called the Toney rematch to give Vitali more time to announce his return. Otherwise I think they'd tell Vitali to step back a be patient.
-
Re: Time is running out for Sam Peter's Jackpot offer...what would you do?
if i was him, i would take the cash, and wait for the winner of Oleg vs Vitali.
Lets face it, if it goes to court, WBC will win. Like it or not, WBC has it in their rule books, and in one way or another the WBC can play it, and spin it in their favor. The rules are vague enough, where they can claim Champion emeritus status Rule, OR use the fact that the WBC considers vitali a "legendary fighter" rule (which states the current #1 contender would have to wait, until the fight between the "legend" and the current champ is over)Thats just being honest guys.
If it goes to arbitration, and peter loses, he gets Nothing. No 2.5mil to chill and watch vitali and Oleg. So if i was him, and i was confident enough in my skills, i would wait, with a fat paycheck. And please dont give me this, He's turned them down bull, he didnt turn them down, They are still negotiating the 2.5mil, it will most likely go higher. And peter will most likely accept.
A fight between vitali and oleg would be bigger globally due to the fact of where these guys came from, and the slight animosity between the two from the amature days.
WBC will Do whats best for the WBC, and no one else. No corporation is any different. Just like don king, he will do whats best for Don king. And ill put my money on the fact that he will have peter take the step aside money, and spin the controversy when its time to fight the winner.
Think of the headlines he could come up with.
"they have tried to keep my man down, Well not anymore!"
"they were scared, blah blah blah, Not anymore"
"he has waited long enough blah blah blah"
actually, i think those are things he has been sayin now anyways lol
ahh well...

exactly right.. :coolclick: a delay tactic is what all that was ! tie peter up with another meaningless fight vs. Toney, so that Vitali will have the proper time to train and be ready for Oleg ! At this point its a matter of principle.. A corrupt bunch of guys this WBC ! snuff queens the lot ! O0

So your telling me, they gave Vitali klitschko Champion Emeritus status almost 3 years ago, so that when samuel peter would want to fight oleg maskaev for the crown, they could call back vitali klitschko and interupt samuel peters domination of the heavyweight division?
wow lol jk

cc I was thinking that same thing. As if the WBC cant prove enough on how corrupt they are, they keep finding new ways to prove it to the boxing world/community.

I dont think they knew he was coming back at the time, but I am sure after Maskaev won the belt and VKlit let them know he was interested in coming back they started scrambling to make sure VKlit would have a shot at the title asap. When was the last time any of the belt organizations ordered a rematch on an elimation bout?? I cant think of one before Toney/Peter. I am sure at that time they had some idea that VKlit was at the very least considering a comeback. Like I said before it all just stinks.

Re: Time is running out for Sam Peter's Jackpot offer...what would you do?
I chose the second option.
Because if the WBC gets away with it and Peter chose the first option
(Take the money & fight the winner later this year.)
There's no telling where this would stop and what other crap would be pulled!!!!
Then boxing would lose all of its fans in time cause of this bs!
-
Re: Time is running out for Sam Peter's Jackpot offer...what would you do?
WBC should mandate Vitali and Peter to dance for the #1 contender spot. That would be a good fight. ;)
-
Re: Time is running out for Sam Peter's Jackpot offer...what would you do?
I chose the first option, not because Vitali should get the shot....in all seriousness Sam should fight Maskaev right away.
NOW for my opinion...If he takes the money he's able to MAYBE set up a future unification bout by fighting a top contender in a WBA, IBF, or WBO rankings.
Shannon Briggs would fight him.....he could get a belt and then fight for the WBC belt vs Vitali for MORE MONEY later on.
Just me thinking.....Sam should get his shot though

I knew you were thinking Lyle ...I could smell wood burning.
What about this, BOTH Maskaev AND Vitali want Peter to step aside.
What is implied by this?
1) Maskaev thinks he will lose to Peter?
2) Vitali knows Peter will Beat Maskaev and would rather face Maskaev than Peter
3) nothing? comments?
Whats to say that after the Mask/Vitali fight Vitali DOESNT fight Peter for what ever reason where does that leave Peter?
-
Re: Time is running out for Sam Peter's Jackpot offer...what would you do?
No Maskaev wants some fucking money and Vitali brings the bank!
Vitali would SLAUGHTER Sam Peter
1) Valuev is not in this conversation.......buh bye Landmine
-
Re: Time is running out for Sam Peter's Jackpot offer...what would you do?
Well as usual Lyle...your wrong..
Who do you think Money Grubbing backstabber Vitali will face if and after he beats MAskaev and gets his sticky fingers on a championship belt?
huh? who?
tell me!
His brother? No? ok then who else?
Briggs? for peanuts against a guy who "could" whack him out?
You saw the Interview where Briggs went up and yapped at Vitali...see how interested Vitali looked? ZERO interest! It was Poo.. Poo.. you don't have a mike no one can hear you..go away..
oh I know...Samuel Peter? ya... fight the guy who knocked his slicker brother on his ass 3 times to do what ? keep the belt he already has?Let me think....Who will the wildly popular (in Europe) Ukrainian with massive German backing fight to try and gain one of the other 2 titles NOT held by him or his brother.......hhmmm A fight in Europe
Maybe to stop some legendary record from being broken and "desecrated" against an undefeated fighter...say a guy from some country that dominated his homeland for 80 years with the iron fist of Communism....
NAW....he'll do the right thing and risk it all and bypass a 100 million dollar fight to give Samuel Peters the shot he so rightfully deserves..
Do ya Think?
So ....who's it about??? why do ya think Don Kings there? rubbing his fat murdering little palms together as he imagines the bankroll..
DUDE, this isn't rocket science ya know.....
The biggest thing in Boxing today and getting bigger everyday..
IS NICOLAI VALUEV!
-
Re: Time is running out for Sam Peter's Jackpot offer...what would you do?
What does backstabber have to do with this????
Vitali wants his money....sure all fighters do, that's why they fight!!!!
Vitali will fight Sam Peter if he gets the shot and wins.....if Sam Peter gets the fight and wins, it depends on who is out there, he will not want to fight Vitali because he'll lose.
The Klitschko's are not afraid of your yehti....if anything VALUEV is afraid to fight THEM

Agreed...I seriously doubt that Valuev's people are stupid enough to risk losing his "record breaking record" :-X against someone like Sam Peter, Vitali, or Wlad at this point...so as always...Valuev is not really part of the equation...again.
IWO, they should milk Valuev's shot at 50 undefeated wins by letting him face more milk men.
**Speaking of milk men...where is Rachman? Didn't he always call Vitali the milk man or some shit like that? Lyle...I know you know that one...you always ripped that poor kid apart.

Re: Time is running out for Sam Peter's Jackpot offer...what would you do?
ive not actually read any other posts but besides presuming he'll get more credit for principle, he must surely think he'll get more money through fighting maskeav for his title...winning... and then taking on v.klit as the champ?? i dont know the odds of thas but surely he would have a ballpark of how much he would have had facing the winner of v.klit and maskeav??

Peter needs to take the money and shut the fuck up. He's lucky to be in the position he's in. He's been given chances instead of being screwed. Check the front page...it's not the offer that it might have appeared...now theyr'e saying that it's more likely $500,000 step aside cash & that's conditionally.
If he were to face Maskaev as he has fought twice & paid his monetary dues twice he could stand to gain more in the future by beating Maskaev now.
You have to look at the over all picture & I am sure that that is what Peter & his team are doing.
If Peter were to stop Maskaev, which I believe that he would, then his stock would still continue to sky rocket & he's make a boatload to face Vitali...which would be the better fight for the fans & the WBC in the near future.

He got the decision against Toney...and then beat him convincingly. He knocked Wlad down 3 times. He's payed 200 grand to fight Maskaev. And now he gets possibly only 500 K? He's 26 years old and is only getting better. In a sport plagued by inactivity, you're knocking a guy for wanting to fight?

Very well put & all true.
I was still shocked that quite a few people cried foul when Peter won the first match & thoroughly thrilled that he dropped JFAT (James Fat Ass Toney) in the second fight & outboxed JTOLT (James Tub Of Lard Toney) down the stretch of 12.
It was a glorious day in Wackoland. ;D

If I remember correctly he was in an eliminator against Wlad and lost. He than some how found himself in another eliminator against James Toney and by all means lost. But was given a gift win. How the fuck is this being screwed? If anything he's been getting hooked up. Now they trying to hook him up again by given him 2.5 million. And he don't know what to do? What a fucking moran.
There shouldn't even of been a rematch if Toney would of got the much deserved win. Because it wasn't that close. And if you look at the fight against Wlad it's quite obvious that only 1 of the knock downs is even legit. Yeah he beat Toney in a rematch that shouldn't of even happened. But come on? In reality he went 1-1 against an aging fighting who was fighting 4 division above his best weight. And struggled in doing so.

Wasn't that close? If it weren't for a point deduction most Toney fans wouldn't have a case for him winning. Wasn't that close? That fight had more swing rounds then any fight in recent memory. And yeah he's aging, but Toney is one of the best boxers in all the game. And Wlad was hurt and turned into those punches versus Peter.
And you don't think there should have been a rematch...well there was...so does that change anything? I think nobody but Wlad could have done the number on Toney that Peter did. And Peter's style plays right into Toney's hands and he still knocked him.

Fuk your precious Klitschko Wacko! ;D Peter deserves this shot and should get it, NO MATTER WHAT.

Alright...that's it!
Just for that...I hope that your street thug, car stealing ex-luvah, Mayorga is getting his ear tugged & being forced to squeeeeeeeeeeeeel like a pig Ned Beatty style in some dirty Nicaraguan jail cell to a badly sang karaoke version of Mariah Carrey's latest album.
How's that my big green friend? You gotdam right I like you when your'e angry. Heh heh heh.
