what if tyson would got past buster douglas then fought holyfield
well im not biggest fan of tyson by any means as miles and big h knows but watching some of his early fights recently he was awesome so how do you think this would go if tyson would of got past douglas
-
Re: what if tyson would got past buster douglas then fought holyfield
Problem was not Douglas it was Tyson....I am good friends with his origional Matt Baranski....Matt told me about the way Tyson was living...Matt was in Japan with Mike and ended up leaving due to an arguement with Tyson...which is how the Stooges ended up in his corner....Tyson is mentally weak....His physical skill are great but the mind is what caused his downfall....Holyfield would have still won

yea maybe but he looked damn impressive in first ruddock fight and holyfield wernt looking that impressive being out on his feet and down against bert cooper wobbled few times against foreman i used to think holyfield win this but holyfield did get caught aweful lot and them body shots from tyson what he landed on ruddock were devasting i dont know if holyfield would survive but you never know with warrior like holyfield he manages to always pull it out
-
Re: what if tyson would got past buster douglas then fought holyfield
He would have lost....what if Mike Tyson flew a rocket ship to the moon???
-
Re: what if tyson would got past buster douglas then fought holyfield
Pre jail, post Douglas Tyson beats Holyfield IMO. Yes, he was losing skills and becoming more of a head hunter, but he could still throw hard and in combination. Mentally he wasnt so diminished as the performances against Ruddock show. Tyson would have won a hard fought decision. Tyson was working his way back to the top prior to jail.
Its a shame that we never really saw what Tyson could do with his back to the wall in those years lost to jail. Its all conjecture, hypothesis and guess work....

Re: what if tyson would got past buster douglas then fought holyfield
Tyson never had it in him to beat Evander

i disagree, post douglas-pre prison tyson was not primed and some of his great skills had diminished but he was hungry and could go 12 hard rounds...I see tyson winning but if holyfield managed to impress the judges he might come up with a SD but no way would holyfield knock that version of tyson out...IMO

Re: what if tyson would got past buster douglas then fought holyfield
He wouldn't have to KO Mike....Mike would have just quit, same as he did when he got the chance to fight Holyfield
-
Re: what if tyson would got past buster douglas then fought holyfield
Holyfield would've beaten Mike up, just like he did in '96 and '97. People seem to forget that if they fought in '91 or '92, Holyfield would've benefitted too, because he was old and past his prime when they fought in '96, just like Tyson was.
I know Tyson fans love their guy and I can respect that, but Holyfield was, is, and always will be a superior fighter. And Tyson knows it.

i dont want to take anything away from evander on his great accomplishment with the win over tyson but tyson seriously underestimated and under trained for that fight i mean why train hard for an old veteran with a heart condition?he thought it would be easy nights work.......the tyson pre-prison was fit to go the distance with holy IMO
-
Re: what if tyson would got past buster douglas then fought holyfield
Hey, Evander did it to him twice and he'd do it to him again if Mike had a time machine!
-
Re: what if tyson would got past buster douglas then fought holyfield
Evander win this fight big in 91 IMO .. in 91 Evander was at his prime.. He was just a fantastic all around athlete. .. Mike had slipped at this point , even if Tyson got passed Douglas he was slipping and his world was still crumbling. Mike’s work ethic and discipline had already gone to the birds .
Now Mike Tyson in 86 would have been a different story.. Prime for Prime. I’d lean toward Tyson.. Tyson’s prime window was very very short he peaked out very early. Hell Mike was a grown man at the age of 13 and 200 lbs of muscle O0

what do you mean he did it to him twice? as i recall tyson was beating holyfeild across the ring in the 3rd rd-2nd fight
-
Re: what if tyson would got past buster douglas then fought holyfield
3rd round.....and Mike lost the fight because apparently only Mike can foul in a fight.
Mike complained of headbutts but Evander never complained of elbows on the throat or anything like that.
You have to WIN the fight to .....WIN the fight....get what I'm saying.
Just like you said Lewis beat Vitali....Evander beat Tyson
-
Re: what if tyson would got past buster douglas then fought holyfield
Holyfield wins, no question in my mind, and I was a big Tyson fan back then. His world was crumbling at that time and if he would have got past Douglas and fought Holyfield, Tyson would have lost in similar fashion, late (T)KO. Tyson didnt have the right people around him, either his trainers werent any good or he just wasnt listening, either way Tyson wasnt doing what needed to be done in the gym. And as someone else pointed out at the time Holyfield was a heck of a fighter.

are you talking about the elbow in the throut when mills lane was trying to seperate them and holy wouldnt let go? i thought constent clinching was also a foul?

Re: what if tyson would got past buster douglas then fought holyfield
Tyson always fouled....he only bitched when someone did it back.
....come to grips dude, Tyson wasn't perfect he lost and there were fighters who would have beat him at ANY POINT in his career
-
Re: what if tyson would got past buster douglas then fought holyfield
This is a real crock of crap! Tyson was up drinking and smoking dope until 3 A.M. the night prior to the Douglas fight and suffering from a Caligula complex.
Watch the tape of that fight and Douglas got a really long count after the knockdown. He should have been counted out. However, that's no excuse for Tyson
to come in the ring with a hangover and not take it seriously.
The Holyfield fight: That's just idle speculation at this point. I know this, though - Holyfield in his prime could do more than hold his own with the best of them.
-

i know tysons not perfect and i have good grip thanx...i know mike tyson cant beat everone but i feel he could take a UD over holy in his prime...why is that opinion so outragious in your eyes?
-
Re: what if tyson would got past buster douglas then fought holyfield
at least im being realistic! most delusional tyson fans would say tyson could ko evander in one round and that if he came back today and trained hard he could unify the division....i hate this breed of tyson fan, they make me sick
-
Re: what if tyson would got past buster douglas then fought holyfield
Holyfield's smothering style and high punch output would always be difficult for Tyson to cope with whether it was in 1988 or in 2000

Agreed. Holyfield was amazing. I just wish he would have watched the head-butting a bit. If Holyfield was fighting at HW in 1988, I would have
still given him a good shot.

dont get me wrong,i like holyfield as a fighter,he was an absolute animal at cruiser and a great warrior...but its my opinion that prime 4 prime tyson wins a hard fought UD...thats my story and im sticking to it ;D peace

Nice topic icecold . Youve got good taste
Theres so many variables to consider like would Tyson train like a demon for Evander back then or was his loss waiting to happen and he needed a defeat at that stage. Also was Evanders neck capable of absorbing Tysons uppercuts cuz he didnt have much of a neck to speak of until the second Bowe fight. Also both their styles differed from when they met in 96 . Holyfield was more of a mover bouncing on his toes and Mike in his youth had quicker upper body movement .
Alot of things make you sway back and forth on this 1 . Im kinda under the belief that Tyson was a monster and to me he is one of the greatest in his peak but Lewis and Evander style wise always had his number .
-
Re: what if tyson would got past buster douglas then fought holyfield
If Tyson would got past Douglas he would still have thinking "yes I'm better than everyone of them" he would have then been crush by Holyfield. I'm pretty sure of it.
Moreover since Tyson sparred against holyfield when the 2 were amateurs, he wasn't impress at all by Evander...then I really think he would have think about an easy bout before discovering too late he was in for the fight of his life.
BUT Speaking about a Tyson trained and motivated like he was before it would have been an absolute war and I see Tyson winning by ko. Tyson at his peak had too much for Holifield.
it's like a trained Moorer, he would win 9/10 against Holyfield if he's trained :-)
-
Re: what if tyson would got past buster douglas then fought holyfield
any 'good' version of tyson would of knocked a prime holyfeild out. im srry but if peopl like bert cooper can make him lose his feet then a good version of tyson could.
prime tyson - ko 7
preprison but defeated tyson - ko 12
after prison tyson - we all saw what happened there.
tyson nearly put holy down in round 5, if he was prime he could have fought that roun 5 every round 10 times better
-
Re: what if tyson would got past buster douglas then fought holyfield
A 1992 Tyson would have ko'd a 1992 holyfield round 1 ;)

he didnt almost put holyfield down and holyfield was past his prime aswell thats what people seem to forget i praised tyson in this thread when i dont like him he was great fighter it depends really would holyfield fight smart or would he be silly and get lured into brawl which would be dangerous because tyson even in 1991 was still very good them body shots he landed on ruddock if he would of landed them on me i wouldnt have stomach left :P but like i say its pick em if holyfield fights smart he can win this if he gets lured into brawl like he did vs bowe 1 or with bert cooper i say tyson wins so its pick em

Holyfield could take better shots as he got older yes he stopped Tyson tko 11 in 1996 but he got away with alot of holding and spoiling had he stood toe to toe he would have been stopped but Holyfield could'nt have been that far past it he then beat Tyson dsq 3 in the famous ear biting fight then added the IBF to his WBA title by stopping Michael Moorer in 8.Then he had 2 good fights against Lennox in which some think he won the second one then had wins over Ruiz and Rahman

I like it, tysonbruno! 3 years spent in jail and away from active boxing would indicate being more past it IMO. And it took Holyfield 11 rounds to break down a Tyson who to be honest hadnt faced anybody in his comeback.
Erase 5 years and Tyson goes the distance and does a lot more against Holyfield

Bruno fought like a chicken, a very big chicken though. Tyson had no rounds under his belt whatsoever prior to Holyfield. That is undeniable.
As for Holyfield's mysterious heart problems?? They vanished quite bizarely. Even though Holyfield looked like garbage against Moorer and Bowe. He had rounds under his belt and came in ready to hold a Tyson who didnt have any real rounds under his belt.
Holyfield: Tyson 1 is no reflection on what a pre jail fight would amount to...

Bruno was having a good run when only good run he could have had is if he ran out of the ring from Tyson Tyson stopped Bruno in 3 because he were scared stiff and so were Seldon that were'nt enough for Tyson to be ready for Holyfield not after the prison sentance

tyson knocked out bruno in 3 rounds quicker than he did back in 1989 and bruno was having pretty good run tyson was knocking out everybody thats why no one thought holyfield had chance because he had looked garbage holyfield was older than tyson and im being fair here i am saying tyson was past it but so was holyfield
Bruno was having a good run when only good run he could have had is if he ran out of the ring from Tyson Tyson stopped Bruno in 3 because he were scared stiff and so were Seldon that were'nt enough for Tyson to be ready for Holyfield not after the prison sentance
On the money again! ;)
