I made a short vid.

this one should work. others to follow..maybe.
Hey von was there another link you were gonna put up?
yeah, sorry for the delay. This is the first time I've ever even made a video. My first try. So I uploaded the wrong media type, had to do some reading as to what would work, then I edited it a bit more, etc.
The final version has been uploaded and is being reviewed by youtube so hopefully it'll be ready for all to see very shortly.
Awesome look forward to it.... is this that new heavybag from ringside???
no. an old heavy bag from Dick's. ;D
lol ;D. cc nice clip! Question about the body hooks for ya.... Ive been dropping down to hook to the body, then normally pop up and hook to the head. Is it better to hook to the body while standing more upright?
thanks. whatever works for you. I like to get down a little bit. What you can't see in that vid is that I have a rather wide stance, so that's how I generate my power.. or lack there of. lol.
nice puching power exercise! just a little thingy there, when you throw hooks to the body, you lower your defending arm too much imho. if your opponent throws a hook to the head at the same time you might end up getting hit. that is just my point of view though
you're absolutely right. I keep my hands high on mitts, but I do tend to get a bit lazy on the bag. Seeing that made me realize it all the more.
Von terrific cc one point when throwing the jab youre not moving the right shoulder with the weight its spending all its energy stabalising the left move it. Or it will damage the biomechanics.
ok....I think I know what you're saying. Thanks. cc
Yep Nice Vid - I like the strength training equipment you have there.
What exactly is it? I was told my gym had something similar years ago but it fell apart.
I assumed it was home made since it looks a little different to the usual cable weights set up you see in commercial gyms - but now I see you have it too I'm thinking it might be possible to buy something like this.
Did you buy yours somewhere or make it yourself?
thanks. it's all homemade. the unit at impulsepower.com will run you $3600 usd. mine is about $25 worth of stuff you buy from a hardware store. wire cable, clips, pulleys and some black iron pipe and fittings.
Yeah - I think the commercial one might be a bit out of my price range but I'll check out my local hardware store sometime :) Nice work!
Thanks agin.... as soon as I get batteries for my camera I'll take a couple close up pics of how I put it together,. Very simple though. I basically went into the pipe section and just started thinking, "what can I do with all this pipe? If I connect one of these to one of those, and then...." and so on. ;D
All good thanks! - copying your functional version rather than taking a chance on my own skills is always much, much more likely to be successful! :)
i was wondering i use resistance bands to do basically the same thing do u think the weights are better.
I'm also curious as to how this type of equipment, resistance bands and just using hand weights for shadow work or weighted gloves under bag gloves for bag work all compare. Anyone care to enlighten us? :-)
weights = bad, unless you're doing weight lifting to gain strength. if you use hand weights to do shadow work or bag work, you're asking for trouble.... hyperextension being the prime culprit. It just aint good for the ol' joints. In this regard, you're far better off doing things like medicine ball slams where you can do the enrtie range of motion but have nothing in your hand/arm at the end of each rep. I love med ball slams.
As far as bands go, bands are fine, but you won't get far with regular old bungee. You'll have to invest in a good resistance band or two to get anything out of it, which will run you anywhere from $30-$50 US to get anything worth while. for $50 US you can get 100lbs of pweight plates. But resistance bands are good because the resistance increases as they are stretched, but if you want to increase it to the point where it's tougher at the start of the motion, chances are it'll be too "heavy" at the end of the motion.
Thus, I prefer weights because there's less to factor in as far as loads go. But, as I'm sure you know, this should only be a supplemental aspect of your training...for some strength increases... the majproty coming on the bag, mitts and sparring.
so bands vs, plates, take your pick. to each his own.
that really is a good set up i am a big fan of rigging stuff up around the house becouse i have no money lol
Yep looks good. Thanks for the explantion Von :) I look foreward to those pics so i can set up my own :)
yeah, haven't forgot. The rechargable batt pack for my camera dies. Will pick up some pro'lly tomorrow. Then I'll take some close-up pics for you.
heya von, i was hopin for vids on that thing you made... I LOVEIT! makin one tonight!
right on man!
I promised sharla some close-up pics showing exactly how i did it... went out bought batteries, wrong batteries. i guess i need a special battery for a digital camera. i'll pick some up today since im playing hookey! ;D
Did you ever get those batteries Von? Still considering copying your equipment! :)
