How many world boxing champs retired never having lost a pro bout?

i can think of rocky marciano, terry marsh, ricardo lopez, sven ottke and i know there was an ibf champ just after they formed who also retired unbeaten, but cant remember his name.

you could actually add cassius clay to that list too. he was only ever defeated as muhammad ali

And won that title in his 3rd fight lol..
You dont tend to recognise any of his opponents but i actually found out that some of his opponents were pretty good recently... A couple of his opponents had fought some big named fighters etc..

it could be argued that lennox lewis did as he beat the only fighters that beat him and so sort of canceled out the loses ;)

I personally never heard much about Marsh and to be honest never seen any of his fights so I can't comment on him.
But yes he did retire as champ.

I've never seen Lopez's two fights with Alvarez, which ended in one technical draw and one split decision win for Lopez. Were the decisions in both legit?
What I'm asking is, could a case be made that he lost either of them? Or did he deserve to win both? Or were they right?

Marsh was a light punching fighter not great to watch u didnt miss much he had 1 draw to Lloya Christie also

Let's just say it was like Vasquez-Marquez where eventhough a knockdown was scored Marquez in this case Lopez IMO, was still ahead....
Not only that but as it goes Alvarez was not penalized for the headbutt why I'm not sure?

The rematch was tough as Lopez was barely making weight and was practically draining himself at that point and you could really see it....
IMO the fight was not a close as it appears, I think for the most part what made it looked close was that Alvarez was tagging Lopez and no one had been able to do that and catch up with Lopez and he was....

I've only seen both fights live and haven't seen either one since......

According to boxrec the point was deducted. From what I read there, the headbutt was ruled accidental, but a point was deducted from Alvarez because Lopez suffered a cut.
It was the same WBC rule that occurred in the DLH-Whitaker fight.

Your right, he was deducted one point, I still can't believe Melvina had the fight 63-68 for Alvarez thats a pretty damn large margin considering the point deduction....

In hIs title win over joe manley he put on an all out aggressive fight and totaly dominated manley. In his first defense he beat a fella who had knock aaron pryor down.

He had a left jab like a gunshot though, and he hid within an impenetrable warren of a defence.

Lightweight Jack McAuliffe was champ from 1886-1894 his final record was 30-0-5 with 22 ko's

Harry Simon, light middleweight 23-0 retired as wbo champ....23-0 isnt some great accomplishment, one of those being a disputed decision over Winky Wright.

If it is about retiaring as undefeated champ, think of Khaosai Galaxy (featherweight i think)

Terry Marsh never retired as champion. he was stripped of his title on medical grounds but was later cleared to box in america. He was due to box on a top rank show, but because bob arum couldnt sell the fight to uk tv he took Marsh of the bill and Marsh retired.

bit late but i think the ali/clay thing was a joke........at least i hope it was

i said the ali/clay thing and got abuse for it even though a well respected analyst and madison square matchmaker teddy brenner said the same thing

it was meant as a bit of irony but some people on ere either dont have a sense of humour or are so far up their own backsides its untrue haha
