Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds: Wlad Klitschko vs Austin
Well folks…March is here & with March…comes the madness.
The month has kicked off to a rather banging start last weekend courtesy of HBO, what with Cotto & Miranda hammering away down in Puerto Rico, & once again they’re back to bringing the pain heavyweight style as we jet set off to Germany late in the day to catch Wladimir Klitschko (50 fights, 47 wins with 42 ko's, & 3 losses) in his latest attempt at rejuvenating his career & also reinstating his name as the top heavyweight contender/champion.
The question once again for Wladimir is…quite simply…”Can he be what he used to be?”
Currently…that answer is…a hesitant YES.
For the past five years the heavyweight division has slipped on & off of the radar. More likely than not…it has fallen under constant scrutiny & most fans think that the division is the worst that it‘s been in years. Sometimes there is some legitimacy to everyone’s gripe…other times I say that we are being to critical as fans.
Wev’e had some shots in the arm recently with Wladimir Klitschko, Nickolay Valuev, James Toney, Sam Peter, & even Calvin Brock making splashes…then sinking…then producing waves while others go off of the deep end. In’s & out’s have come courtesy of Chris Byrd, Hassim Rahman, & again James Toney. Heavyweight hopefuls turn into heavyweight has beens & visa versa.
So...this Saturday DAY, May the 9th, 2007 we watch as Wladimir will once again showcase his power & talent in Mannheim, Germany at the SAP-Arena against Ray Austin (31 fights, 24 wins with 16 ko's, 4 draws, & 3 losses) in a match over the IBF & IBO Heavyweight straps.
Austin is a bit of a question mark himself. He’s drawn & lost with some of the “second & third best” of ‘em…so it’s really hard to gauge the depth of his talent. Most view this as another step over for Wladimir…& I would have to agree. Honestly…it’s a fight that I really don’t see helping either one of these two except to boost Wlad’s record. I’d be shocked if it were anything more.
That being said…a fight is a fight & as always…I’m game to cover it…if it’s worthy…& as critical as we all can be…as questionable as this match up appears…well…what can I say…I aint got shat else to do. Heh heh heh.
So my fellow forum goers…once again…it’s on.
The normal drunken menu might not apply for you this early in the day…but truthfully…I never pull a shift sober…so let’s break out the chips & salsa…& I’ll pour me poison of choice & go this one alone if I have to.
Hey…what can I say…it’s fight time & this is the Drunken Round by Round.
Cheers & koneecheewah bitches.
Seeing that I consider this one to be a bit of a mismatch…I gotta pick Wlad by TKO late in the game.

Re: Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds: Wlad Klitschko vs Austin
I can't see this fight going any other way then a very lopsided decision for Wlad or a mid to late round stoppage. I agree with most of the posters on the board that Austin is probably going to start fast and everything but the second he slows down he's done. He's not that good, he doesn't move his head and he just is there to be hit.
And Wlad, say whatever you want about him, is deadly accurate with the jab and right hand. He's just deadly with it. And Austin is there to be hit.

Totally agree.
I, personally think that he's a very VERY weak choice of opposition...but...maybe there wasn't anyone else out there.

In all truth...I think that Wlad is the best thing out there right now unless Peter keeps improving as fast as he did against Toney.
No matter what anyone says...Peter pulled out one hell of a bag of tricks against someone as slick as Toney. As I always say...even though I can't stand Toney...he's a hell of a fighter...just not at heavyweight.
Honestly...I'm curious if Wlad will offer Peter a rematch in the coming year or so?
Now that Vitali is supposedly coming back into the picture...who knows what will materialize.

Put me down for Wladdy KO via rd. 6 8)

Re: Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds: Wlad Klitschko vs Austin
I think eventually it will get to a point, where he HAS to offer Peter a rematch. I mean...there isn't going to be any new blood in the division competing for the title for a while. Chazz won't be ready til mid to late 08 and probably the same with Chambers. And all these other champs aren't wanting to fight Wlad. I mean who after Ray Austin? It has to be Peter especially if he does away with Maskaev. Because I don't think we'll ever see Vitali and Peter go.

I agree here also... :coolclick:
Except for one thing...I don't know that I even put too much faith in Chazz or Chambers.
If Vitali comes back in form & faces Maskaev or Peter...it'll be like a gotdam snuff flick. Vitali's just way to awkward, way to iron jawed, & has to heavy of a jab.
If Peter continues to improve then Wlad will have a fight on his hands...& if Maskaev Peter materializes then Maskaev will get snuffed late.
Honestly...I think that Peter is a good shot at a dark horse champ. He's already proven to be a diamond in the ruff as some people might say.

About Wladdy vs. Peter II, I say let' em hav' em if Peter really want's to redem himself then by all means go right ahead. Wladdy will beat him the 2nd time around I don't see it any different even with Peters new found style..... That style loked good against Toney it won't look the same against Wladdy.

Re: Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds: Wlad Klitschko vs Austi
I picked Wlad by decision. Wide decision. For some reason, I see Austin being wary of engaging the whole fight and turning this into a boring non-action fight. But I hope I'm wrong.
If Vitali does actually come back isn't Vitali vs. Peter pretty much guaranteed within two fights (after whichever of them beats Maskaev)? I'm just curious as to why people are so sure this won't happen.
-
Re: Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds: Wlad Klitschko vs Austin
I went for Wlad by TKO - I don't think Austin has enough snap to keep Wlad off of him. His defense won't be enough to stop the jab/straight right that Wlad throws - and that straight right is like a mule kick.
As for a Peter rematch, Wlad won that first fight convincingly. He got up when he got decked and controlled the fight with his jab and movement. The thing that bothers me is how so many people talk of that fight like Wlad just annhilated Peter - and I completely disagree. Wlad's defense isn't so impregnable that Peter can't connect - as we saw. And we all know that Peter has the power to put Wlad on the deck. I really think that Wlad would have a very rough night in a rematch against Peter.
-
Re: Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds: Wlad Klitschko vs Austin
Wlad will win this, Austin wont be able to maintain after a few rounds and the Wlad jab will begin to impose and dominate. Probably a stoppage around the seventh for Wlad...
While Peter is being mentioned around here. A rematch in a years time sounds most welcome! :)
Its a fight I would love to see happen...

What the hell is that, OCD or some shit? No Odd numbers? ;) :coolclick: Nah good preview, I really don't like watching heavies these days, give me flyweights any time, its not just that the division is lacking decent fighters, it's lacking personalities as well, the division needs to be injected with about 3-4 top quality guys capable of buliding a fan base to even have a chance against the superstars between 126-168. They are keeping boxing afloat at the minute.

Re: Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds: Wlad Klitschko vs Austi
Should be an easy night for Wlad. I'm torn as to what I want to happen. In fights like this I always root for the underdog and it would be awesome if Austin put on a great fight and shocked the world BUT for the good of the heavyweight division we need Wlad to win convincingly.
Wlad, Peter, Valuev and Vitali really are the future of the division and we need all these guys to look good and win impressively in their fights. If/when one of them slips up it weakens the division as a whole.
Right now Wlad is in the best position of any fighter since Lewis to be the man to unify and be the next true heavyweight champ, Peter is the closest we got to Tyson and Valuev with his massive size and almost Marciano equalling unbeaten record are crucial to provide longterm interest in the division.
Let's hope Wlad keeps the ball in play this weekend with a comprehensive win and that Valuev can do the business against Chavez later in the spring.

CC back - working on a degree. Keeps me out of trouble, but doesn't leave much time for the forum, either :-\

Re: Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds: Wlad Klitschko vs Austin
Gotta go with Wlad by KO/TKO in round 3. He's going to murder him with the jab and straight right IMO
-
Re: Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds: Wlad Klitschko vs Austin
Wlad by KO in 5.
I am rooting for Austin to be tough enough to get up enough times to get knocked back down enough times to make me happy.
Wladdie: don't knock him out straightaway, take a lesson from your brother when he fought Danny Williams. Put him on his ass, but let him get up a few times. Your boy DynoMight loves that the most.
Bloody, baby. Bloody.

Re: Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds: Wlad Klitschko vs Austi
I dont know but I find it really difficult to get excited about these HW fights, especially as of late. They usually turn out to be little more than hugging contests, very little punching or at best, they look like sparring sessions. The last HW fight I realllllly liked was Brewster Lyakovich, that was awesome!

I don't know I still watching the heavyweights more than any other division. Even though most of the fighters are shite there is always that tension and drama of a possibility of a one punch KO.
Personally the Peter Toney rematch had me standing up and screaming at Toney to fight back. When he went down and was getting rocked by Peter that was the most drama of the year so far for me, closely followed by the spectacular Sprott KO of Audley Harrison.
Whilst I appreciate the faster, better skilled displays of boxing from the lower weights there's nothing like watching to huge guys slug it out.

Because last year Sultan Ibragimov was supposed to handle Austin & knock him out. He didn't & for some reason a lot of people felt that Austin did better during their IBF title eliminator than Ibragimov did.
That's hard for me to go along with seeing that Ibrag dropped him in the 4th & 10th rounds.
Then again...it could be that Ibrag is facing Javier Mora this month...or it could just be the fact that Austin was quite possibly looked upon as an easier blast out candidate than Ibrag. :lickish:

anyone know uk time for this fight ???
-
Re: Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds: Wlad Klitschko vs Austi
I'm taking a risk and I'm gonna predict an upset, Austin is big and experienced in the best shape of his life and if corrie sanders can do it so can he. Nothing much more to it that that, Klitschko is good but he's still got question marks around him in my opinion.

Re: Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds: Wlad Klitschko vs Austin
Wladimir Klitschko (50 fights, 47 wins with 42 ko's, & 3 losses) vs. Ray Austin (31 fights, 24 wins with 16 ko's, 4 draws, & 3 losses) Round 1: Austin comes rushing out trying to land bombs. Left hand gets in Wlad does fine with it. Austin jabbing to the body. Wlad’s just feeling with his jab. Austin lands his. Hooks & it gets blocked. Nice jab from Wlad. Snaps Autins neck. Left hook from Wlad. Nice. Austin continues to jab. Clench just after Wlad hooked him. Austin just continues to jab. Wlad cracks him with the jab again. Double jab from Austin. Hook by Austin & Wlad blocks it again. Jab from Wlad. Double jab from Austin. Body shot by Austin & then a jab. Clench. Wlad backs Austin up with the jab & there’s the bell.
Even round…lean towards Wlad.

Wladimir Klitschko (50 fights, 47 wins with 42 ko's, & 3 losses) vs. Ray Austin (31 fights, 24 wins with 16 ko's, 4 draws, & 3 losses) Round 2: Austin comes out first again & they both exchange jabs. Austin lands a right. Nothing on it. Wlad jabs & stops him in his tracks. Two lefts in a row from Wlad. Austin connected with something to Wlad’s chest. 1-2 from Austin & Wlad backs out of it. Big left hook & another & another & down goes Austing!! He’s out!!!

Hello, my good buddy. Having seen the poll results so far, don't you think a better poll would've been: "What round will the hammer fall on Austin?"
