Cotto Suspended for 45 Days Due to Cut

It was reported today that Miguel Cotto was put on a 45 day suspension by the Puerto Rican Boxing Commission due to a cut he suffered this past Saturday when he successfully defended his title against Oktay Urkal. This doesn't effect his June date with Zab Judah at MSG.

cc for the info, I wasnt too worried about the cut affecting the Judah fight, but you never know.
Well it wasn't a deep cut but it was a cut....
The 45 days are just precautionary.....
i thought they suspended you for a 100 days for a cut.
I believe that it depends on the Boxing commision. The medical suspensions can vary from place to place.Quote:

there were too many head butts to be accidental. and urkal was even warned about it but carried on. he wasnt going to win the fight any other way.
Zonk was very odd and wierd. I can't believe that was a real game.
They sure did look intentional.
But what do you expect. Urkal had no chance in hell of beating Cotto especially in Puerto Rico. He's bound to want any help he can get. And if he can get away with cutting Cotto with a headbutt then thats what he will do. It's just that his style didn't make them look like obvious headbutts....so he got away with more.
To be honest i know i'm going to get flamed for this but Cotto shouldn't be fighting Oktay Urkal. If you fight over the hill limited fighters, you should expect a little bit of experienced naughties. Hatton's had the same problem fighting the same kind of fighters but once you step up the level of the opposition you fight guys who can let their skills do the talking. It's not a rant at Cotto, on paper it looked like a decent keep busy fight but lets just hope the cuts aren't so bad it effects his training for the Judah blow out. ;D
Looks like a couple of those head butts were UNintentional.
Urkal mastered the counterbutt. It is much more efficient than counter punching, and also allows you to keep your guard up and less likely to get hit!!! Masterful.
By the way anyone know what was going on outside the ring in the ninth? The crowd was responding and even Urkal pointed???

ive said it before, and im saying it again, cotto just isnt that good.
he is sooooo slow. (not as bad as margarito slow) in this division, speed and technique equal power.
cotto has no speed, and very little technique
hes a great body puncher, ill give him that. but hes too slow to be thrown to the wolves (judah, mayweather, williams ;)) at this point. cotto would get peppered by 4 punch combinations every time he came inside to land one of his body shots

You obviously have not seen enough of Miguelwhen he puts the punches together,he has deceptively fast handspeed. And where were Zab's lightning fast combinations in his losses? Did they save him? I must say I'm torn on this one. I love them both but I like Cotto a little more. Maybe it's all the disappointments I got from Zab or maybe it's cause I'm PuertoRican. ;D Don't know for sure but it could be both.
I just hope they both fight well enough to stay in the title picture.
