Mundine wins in ninth
Australian Super-Middle won the WBA title for the second time tonight at the Sydney Entertainment Centre when he put Sam Soliman down three times in the ninth round to seal victory.Soliman was down twice in the second round but fought on bravely, although Mundine proved his master for the remainder of the fight,Mundine dominating the action until the stoppage.

This is ridiculous everyone knows kessler is the WBA champ. the wba need to get rid of this superchamp shit and we need to keep titles unified. so the wba now have two super middleweight champions

Re: Mundine wins in ninth
I like Mundine but Kessler done the business fair and square .
Mundine might be a bigmouth but he has bottle and no little skill.

He may have won but thats not the point he's not a world champion and if he thinks he is then he's deluded. let him box the IBF champ and if he wins then the WBA can call him the super champ and we can have another bout for the vacant title and two WBA super super middleweight champions.

Re: Mundine wins in ninth
Good deal for Mundine, I think hes an exciting fighter and IMO it speaks volumes that he was able to stop Soliman.....
If Mundine can keep this up it'll make the SMW even more interesting.....
-
Re: Mundine wins in ninth
I like Mundine, very slick and underatted fighter. I hope he goes on to bigger and better things now.

i heard he caused Kessler alot of problems but having not seen the fight i really cant say for sure :-\
but i think there was a rematch clause and Kessler paid Mundine step aside money so he could fight beyer but the rematch was still on the cards.
guessing the ozzys could shed more light on what the score was on this and the Kessler fight :-\

Re: Mundine wins in ninth
I thought Kessler beat him pretty comfortably. With regards to a rematch I didnt see any reason why there would be one.

Re: Mundine wins in ninth
I watched the fight last night, Mundine was impressive, I think Soliman won about 1 rd. I also watched Mundine/ Kessler & although Kessler was the clear winner Mundine fought one of the best fights of his career. Mundine looked awesome... he was landing his right hand pretty much at will. What surprized me was that from the 1st second Mundine stood his ground & was the aggressor. Many though Mundine would box more early on, but he was on a mission. I think the Mundine of last night would have given Calzaghe or Kessler a though fight!!!
He was in superb form!

Mundine stated in his post fight interview that his intention is to fight at Middleweight and that he won't get a rematch with Kessler or a fight with Calzaghe.
He will be a handful at 160 but Jermain Taylor is no Sam Soliman!

Yeah boy... the division his old man used to fight in, his speed will cause a lot of guys trouble.

Hehe, Mundine was the agressor? In the whole fight he might had 4 steps forward and landed 1 punch every second round.

Very surprising for me, not to see Mundine win, but to see him destroy a very tough guy in Soliman was a big surprise.
I think a large part of it has to do with Mundine growing into a much larger super middlewight than he was when they last fought, and Soliman getting comfortable at 160. It really looked like a light heavyweight against a middlewight in there last night. Mundine was hurting Soliman with every shot while Soliman couldn't make a dent.
Mundine WILL NOT beat Kessler or Calzaghe. I still have my doubts about his heart, as I do with the heart of any of these guys who talk S*** and carry on like pork chops - they are doing all that stuff to mask their fear, insecurities and deficiencies (Ali was the only one who could back it up). Green couldn't exert enough pressure because he was weight drained, Soliman couldn't do it because he was too small.
But put Mundine in against a legitimate super middleweight who will take it to him for 12 rounds and he'll fold.

Mundine is at best an average size smw not looking like a light heavyweight. Soliman is just a midget.

I think Calzaghe would have most fits with Mundine than Kessler. Look at his fight wtih Bika. I think Mundine's speed would do a number on Calzaghe.

not me i remember it well one of the members sent me a video at the time of his first 10 fights and he was holding his own pretty well against Ottke before the KO but my post was more of a dig at Kessler rather than Mundine mate ;)
just having a look on youtube for the fight and this is all they had....

its round 4 but if you listen at the start they had Mundine winning 2 out of the first 3 rounds ;)

I get the impression from his remarks that being the Middleweight champion holds more prestige.
He is right of course and he only needs to drop 7lb to do it! He walks around between fights very close to his fighting weight anyway so it wouldn't be a stretch for him.
If he gets a shot at Kessler again or a fight with Calzaghe he would be mad not to take it though.
He would be a handful at 160 and I expect him to chase Taylor and or Wright by years end.
-
Re: Mundine wins in ninth
mundine is clearly a better boxer now then when he first fought kessler.
-
Re: Mundine wins in ninth
Well i picked it ages ago, mundine was always gonna win this fight and if you didnt think so you just hated mundine or were very delusional. Mundine has improved so much and would be a handful for any fighter now. But just think about this, soliman moves like crazy...yet mundine was able to land that lightning fast right hand...so if he decides to use that weapon more often on guys like kessler or calzaghe then he would most likely have more success against them. Anyway, i reckon if he moves down to middleweight then theres gonna be trouble for any of the top fighters. Sam Soliman was a middleweight and he couldnt handle mundines power for shit yet he had never been stopped before. Winky didnt even do that good against him. So my question to you is...what happens when a super middleweight punches a natural junior welterweight such as winky or a natural welterweight such as shane mosely, my guess is that its gonna hurt quite a bit. And my other guess is, what ever winky and shane have prob wont hurt mundine considering he has faced guys like green and kessler who are bigger then him. Ok now if no one is catching on to what im saying then...yes im saying mundine could beat winky wright (im a big wright fan as well!), yes im saying he could beat shane...and knock his ass out! And hell yeah im saying he could cause jermain some trouble!

I'd like to see Mundine fight Miranda. But I want to see it after about 2 fights for Mundine at Middleweight ot get him used to the weight.

ottke was behind in that fight and found a punch from nowhere.
