More World Title RBR's Mbaye v Kotelnik et al
Evning folks,
plenty of boxing going on tonight on a really big Sports Network bill though no really huge names to mention, but plenty of good bouts.
First up Souleymane M'baye v Andreas Kotelnik, then it's Derry Matthews v Paul Simpson, Paul Smith v Alexander Polizzi and the banger Kevin Mitchell v Harry Ramogoadi.
Bill starts at 9pm UK, 4pm EST, and the fight previews and schedule will come as the evening progresses. I'm off for a steamy....bath and to pop some blisters after some nice hiking earlier on, so drop by in an hour or so for some more top boxing action.

Re: More World Title RBR's Mbaye v Kotelnik et al
First up tonight is Souleymane Mbaye v Andreas Kotelnik for the WBA Light Welter title.
M'baye comes in at 35-1 with 20 KOs having lost only once in a points fight v Vivian Harris in 2003. He won the strap with a 4th round destruction of Italian Raul Balbi in September.
Kotelnik 27-2 with defeats to Junior Witter, and an SD to M'baye

Re: More World Title RBR's Mbaye v Kotelnik et al
Oops, first fight caught me on the hop, so apologies for shoddy preview.
Round 1
Cagey start for these guys, and Kotelnik seems a little shorter and lunging a little more. Devent hook from M'baye. Snappy jabs from Mbaye. Both trying to shoot from distance and lots of shots falling short. Two more jabs from Mbaye, but nice jab from Kotelnik. They swap jabs again. Short hooks from Kotelnik, and one returned by Mbaye.
Drawn round, nothing much happened to seperate them.
10-10

Re: More World Title RBR's Mbaye v Kotelnik et al
Round 2:
Body hook from Kotelnik. Rising straight from Mbaye gets through. Two flurries from Kotelnik find nothing but arms and gloves. Jab to the body from Kotelnik, and a better jab sent back from Mbaye. Left hook from Kotelnik. Nice left to the body from Mbaye. A 15-second Witter style standoff, before Mbaye comes forward with some short shots to the body. Kotelnik gets a few in of his own. Mbaye with a combo to the body and then upstairs. More happening this round. Good left hook from Kotelnik opens Mbaye's eyes, and a pair of straight shots pierce the guard.
Mbaye for workrate, just, for me.

Round 3:
Kotelnik encouraged and pressing forward. Throws a straight right to the body. Jab from Kotelnik. Mbaye with a light hook to the body. Three jabs from Mbaye. Two overhand rights from Mbaye. good lead from Kotelnik, but countered. Good combo starting with the body then going upstairs again. Kotelnik swinging an missing. Good short right from Kotelnik. srong left from Kotelnik, and Mbaye replies with more jabs to keep Kotelnik off.
This is tight and cagey, and Mbaye didn't do enough to win it, so another tied round IMO.

Bruised eye, rubbing his nose ? ? ?
If M'baye can keep hitting him there who knows, he might be able to stop him....

Re: More World Title RBR's Mbaye v Kotelnik et al
Round 6:
When Kotelnik connects Mbaye can look stunned for a second, and he is certainly the harder puncher, but Mbaye is ducking and dodging and popping the shots from outside better. Mbaye with a jab and hook. Big hook from Kotelnik finds the fgloves. Kotelnik pins Mbaye o the ropes and throws hard body hooks. Jab and straight right from Kotelnik. Good right from Mbaye. Pair of jabs again. Nice overhand right from Mbaye pushes Kotelnik back, but he comes forward Two jabs and a hook from Mbaye edge the left eye towards a cut, but, Kotelnik then throws a flurry of sharp shots again.
Kotelnik sliughtly the better, but Mbaye oing the work, so a tied again i think.

Just the usual problems of the Eastern European complexion IMO.
Jabs and straight from Mbaye, but a hard overhand right from Kotelnik. Looking to go toe-to-toe, and Mbaye tries to avoid. Flurry of hooks from Kotelnik find gloves, but the straight right is working for him. Body shots from Mbaye, and a jab. Another straight right. Good jab and two rights from Mbaye. Nice flurry from Kotelnik, body hooks and those vicious straight rights through the Mbaye guard. Jab from Mbaye.
Kotelnik Round. 78-77.

Nice jab from Mbaye, but can he keep Kotelnik off. Body shot from Kotelnik, and a hard hook. Body shot and a straight right get through for Kotelnik, but Mbaye replies with a jab and a right hook. Jab and hard right from Mbaye as Kotelnik lunges. Tear up with both connectin with hooks. Body shots from Mbaye. Jabs from Mbaye as he looks to run again. Mbaye throwing more, but another good hook from Kotelnik. Another right from Mbaye, and Kotelnik replies in a flurry. Two body shots from Kotelnik, and a straight through Mbaye's sieve-like guard.
Tied round, they both did well that one.

Re: More World Title RBR's Mbaye v Kotelnik et al
Round 10:
Mbaye's guard can't hold off the Kotelnik straight right. He's running and jabbing, but Kotelnik throws more hard punches. Pwer or work, hook from Mbaye lands. Flurry of hooks shakes Mbaye's gloves. Nice jab from Mbaye, and a hook as Kotelnik plods forward. Thre jabs from Mbaye, and a body shot. Kotelnik missing with hooks, and Mbaye lands two good rights. Re: More World Title RBR's Mbaye v Kotelnik et al
Round 11:
Amir Khan's sterling advice. "Just box him". I woulnd't be surprised if Mbaye had friction burns on his back from running around the ropes so much. Flurry from Kotelnik but Mbaye covers up. Nice jab from Mbye. Good jab then a right from Mbaye. Right upstairs and a hook to the body from Kotelnik. They both look knackered. Good right, left, from Mbaye, jabs and a gentle uppercut from Mbaye. Hook to the body from Kotelnik, and a short left hook catches Mbaye on the way in. He throws another jab overhand right and catches Kotelnik. Two body shots and a short right up top from Kotelnik. Body shots from Mbaye.
These rounds are tight, but Mbaye is the classier for me, taking this one.
108-105
This all depends on whether you prefer aggression or skills.

Re: More World Title RBR's Mbaye v Kotelnik et al
YEAH! Sounds like Mbaye is winning but not by much. Sounds like a UD is unlikely but a dec would be great for me :thumb:
-
Re: More World Title RBR's Mbaye v Kotelnik et al
Round 12:
Straight right from Kotelnik. Mbaye with a nice left upstairs. Body shots from Mbaye, but Kotelnik comes forward with a hard body shot and a left upstairs. Good left from Kotelnik. Mbaye jabs, and Kotelnik throws some short hooks in the clinch. Jab right from Kotelnik, and a good right by Mbaye. Two jabs from Mbaye. Good right from Kotelnik, and a flurry of body shots and a right up top. Good left from Kotelnik. Mbaye ties up. Jabs from Mbaye. Two body shots from Kotelnik and a hook upstairs.
Kotelnik takes the last one.117-115, but a lot of tight rounds in there. Wait and see.

Re: More World Title RBR's Mbaye v Kotelnik et al
i was watching this fight on my comp but it got cut out after 9 i got impression that m baye was hitting alot of arms and elbows and kotelnik was landing cleaner punches
-
Re: More World Title RBR's Mbaye v Kotelnik et al
Oliver Harrison looks a bit worried. Mbaye looks confident, but Kotelnik is celebrating, and gathering applause from the crowd.
Scorecards: 115-113 Mbaye; 117-112 Kotelnik; 114-114. Draw. Mbaye retains the title but OMG Kotelnik looks furious.

Re: More World Title RBR's Mbaye v Kotelnik et al
No idea how Mickey Vann had Kotelnik by 5 rounds, but very entertaining, and everybody ends up with nothing in the prediction comp!
Next up Kevin Mitchell v Harry Ramogoadi, here's a preview I made earlier.
Kevin Mitchell v Harry Ramogoadi; Commonwealth Super-Featherweight Title
KEvin Mitchell (22-0, 15KOs): The big puncher from Dagenham took the title with a 12 round tight decision over African George Ashie back in October, and now returns to the ring with what appears to be a significantly easier bout against journeyman Ramogoadi. Mitchell is one of the hottest properties in British boxing, and is famed for his all-action style that relies more on hurting the opponent than fending those shots off. He'll start as a big favourite, and should cruise past Ramogoadi.
Harry Ramogoadi (17-6-2, 3 KOs): Ramogoadi comes into this one having recently lost a family member, and is promising to upset all the odds and beat Mitchell. The South African gave Nicky Cook a tough fight after stepping in for the jail-bound Scott Harrison, but has two defeats against Choi Tseveenpurev and another prospect John Murray. He does, in the distant past have a win over IBF champ Malcolm Klassen, and a draw with Thomas Mashaba, but these were 5 years ago. If he wins I'll eat my hat with some roasted veg and an onion gravy.

And me I'm afraid, I just thought Kotelnik was a little crude, and when he did connect well and startle Mbaye, Mbaye had already put in a fair bit of good work, and he was definitely the boxer of the two.

Re: More World Title RBR's Mbaye v Kotelnik et al
Ramogoadi dedicating this fight to his brother Walter, looks a little nervous on his ringwalk. Mitchell walks in with Gwen Stefani playing, gets a decent reception, even though he's oop in the bleak north now. :p. Looks confident, but hopefully not complacent. That commonwealth belt looks really tacky for me, like the fake WWF belt I used to own when I was about 12. The crowd are still quite subdued...bet they won't be when Smith and Derry Matthews get in the ring.
Round 1:
Mitchell claimse the middle of the ring, and a left hook from Mitchell. Body shots from Mitchell, and a reasonable right from Raomogoadi. Quick right catches Ram off guard, more body shots from Mitchell. Two good hooks upstairs and to the body from Mitchell. Counters Ram on the way in with a decent straight. Vicious hooks to the body from Mitchell. Misses narrowly with a chopping cross. Another two good body shots. Mitchell coming forward and pounding Ram so far.
10-9 Mitchell
-
Re: More World Title RBR's Mbaye v Kotelnik et al
Round 2:
Ram on the run early on. He lungescin and a nice body shot from Mitchell. A spot of toe-to-toe, and Mitchell is definitely the puncher with body shots and a nice right up top. Ram trying to jab and keep Mitchell off him, but Mitchell leads in with his own jab then throws to the body. Ram with a righ hook backing out of a clinch. Mitchell with a bdy shot, andanother right coming out fof the clinch from Ram. Nice right from Ram but Mitchell comes on with more body shots. Nice hook from Mitchell sends Ram backing off on the bell.
Mitchell Cruising at 20-18

Re: More World Title RBR's Mbaye v Kotelnik et al
Thanks for the rbr, another cc, Im hoping Mitchell and Matthews look impressive.
-
Re: More World Title RBR's Mbaye v Kotelnik et al
Round 3:
Mitchell leans in with two quick jabs. He's quicker and bigger, but Ram's jab does get through. Body shot and two quick hooks on the side of the head as Ram tries to hang on. Ram has decent head movement though, and bobs quite well. Ram ducks low, and Mitchell's hooks skim off him. Mitchell warned for throwing Ram out of a clinch against the ropes. Nice right hook as Ram ducks again. Nice straight right, but Ram is cducking very low, and Mitchell shrugs in exasperation.
Another Mitchell round, but nothing being returned by Ramogoadi.
30-27
-
Re: More World Title RBR's Mbaye v Kotelnik et al
Round 4:
Mitchell has good snappy jabs, and Ramogoadi is ducking straight afer them. Right hook from Mitchell, as Ram ducks right forward again. Mitchell is just walking Ram down, and Ram is looking to duck out and run. Nice counter right from Ram, and Mitchell comes back with a pair of body shots and a left up top. Ram again with a counter, and it winds Mitchell up with another nice combo. Four good shots from Mitchell mixing body and head, and Ram is on the run again. He's really awkward, ducking low and with good movement. Mitchell with hard body shots. A nice uppercut comes close to Ram. Straight right on the bell from Mitchell, and the onslaught seems to be affecting Ramogoadi.
Mitchell 40-36
-
Re: More World Title RBR's Mbaye v Kotelnik et al
Round 5:
Nice counter right from Ram, but Mitchell is still coming forward, and he's throwing with chopping downward shots again. Nice right and a left uppercut by Mitchell, and Ram tries to throw some of his own. An uppercut misses Mitchell's chin. Two left hooks to the head by Mitchell. nother right as Ram backs off rom the clinch. Body shot and right uppercut from Mitchell, he tries to pin him in the corner. Two good body shots and a right hook sends Ram on the run. Body shot from Mitchell, and Ram covers up and bobs about. Two good rights from Mitchell, and hooks on the bell. Ram gives him a nod saying can't knock me out.
50-45 Mitchell

Re: More World Title RBR's Mbaye v Kotelnik et al
Round 6:
He pins Ram in the corner, and throws two hard body shots. Mitchell jabs, then a chopping downward shot as Ram ducks low again. Body hooks from Mitchell. More body shots and an uppercut skimming the temple of Ram. Body shots and right hook and Ram goes on the run again. Nothing coming bck, though he swings and misses with an uppercut. Body shots and a nice right uppercut from Mitchell. Ram bravely swings a left then a right both connect but Mitchell unfazed. Left and right hook upstairs hurt Ram, and more bosy shots from Mitchell. Body shots, jabs and hooks upstairs and Ram comes back with another gentle punch. A good right knocks Ram backwards and he stumbles on to his knees. Even Ram gets up quickly, the ref stops it. Mitchell may as well have been hitting the bags for an hour, cause there was no competition here.
Ding Ding, 2:59 I think ,as the bell went as the ref waved it off.
