Clinton Woods invades Vegas!

Re: Clinton Woods invades Vegas!
GODS SAKE!!!!!! not happy with this at all. this is a backwards step imo. He needs to go for someone who would push into being the best at light heavy. this dont do it at all. not a good move at all for CW.

Re: Clinton Woods invades Vegas!
Im a Woods fan but im abit disapointed he's fighting Julio Gonzalez again

Re: Clinton Woods invades Vegas!
I tell you our British boxers are the worst invasion fleet in the world.
First Hatton 'invades' by almost getting beat by Collazo, and then taking on the hopelessly mediocre Urango, now Woods wants to go over old ground yet again and take on another old opponent.
He would have been better of giving Johnson a fight on his home turf but then I guess that would be a fight that Woods would clearly lose so..........

Come on this is his first fight back after a longer than expected layoff due to injury, plus his first in Vegas. Allow him one fight as a tune up before he takes on a major American opponent. Plus it would be nice to see if he can get the stoppage this time after winning on points in their first meeting. The American audience need to see him win in style too considering most of them probably havent seen him since his loss to Jones.

Re: Clinton Woods invades Vegas!
I'm a big Julio fan but he has fallen off even from the last time they fought. He almost got TKO'd by Vitali Kopitko last fight and he couldn't stop a left hand to save his life.
Julio is one of the most exciting fighters out there and I don't rate Woods very highly but I would reason to doubt that this goes the distance. Gonzalez looked terrible his last go round. Although against Delisle he had a very high work rate and fought well against Delisle who just kept his head down and charged forward. But against Kopitko it was just one shot at a time.
I've never understood why Gonzalez chooses to do his work on the inside, a guy as big as him it just doesn't make sense. Although, how does Woods handle shots to the body? As easy as he is to hit Gonzalez still has serious power especially to the body. Johnson never really went to the body in the fight of theirs I saw and neither did Gonzalez the first go round. That's the only bit I've seen from Woods.

Woods really isn't anything special. He should have lost to Johnson when they had their rubber match last year, hell he lost all 3 to Johnson in my opinion.
Julio Gonzalez and Rico Hoye are about as far as his skill will ever take him.
I'd still fancy Roy Jones to beat him in a rematch even now.

Re: Clinton Woods invades Vegas!
I forgot about the Jones fight. Yeah I didn't think he beat Johnson either but I'm not sure what fight it was that I saw. I think it was the first but yeah like I said I don't rate him highly. The Gonzalez fight was exciting though so this one could be to.

I gotta disagree here, I really like Woods and for me he just seems to get better with each fight. With his improvements and Jones' decline I'd fancy Woods in a rematch. Hopefully that fight happens because assuming Woods does win then the division is right open for him, with Jones out of the way, Johnson already beaten and Tarver (who I think has alwas been overrated) looking poor recently whos to stop Clinton from dominating the light heavys for a while?

Re: Clinton Woods invades Vegas!
I'd prefer him not to be fighting Gonzales again, in the last four years he has only fought four different opponants. Time to move on.
That said he is coming back from injury and he could have taken a soft touch so fair play to him.

I agree with you Bilbo. Woods isn't anything special. Johnson fought him in his country more than once. Woods should fight Johnson here in the US. But I guess some fighters are not as brave when they don't have the judges in there pocket. Either way, I think the mediocre Gonzalez realizes he's 100% finished if he lose to Woods again. So I expect him to step his game up and relieve Woods of his meaningless title.
-
Re: Clinton Woods invades Vegas!
Oh dear. Another lemming that buys into the myth that Glen Johnson cant lose a close fight.
Gonzales got handled with ease last time, it will be no different this time around. Even if it is in good ol' USA where the judging is always on the level.
-
Re: Clinton Woods invades Vegas!
Woods beat Johnson in my opinion it was really close but Woods did enough to will.Yes he has already beat Gonzalez and is going over old ground but Gonzalez is still a threat its still a tough fight Woods does'nt mind taking a risk unlike Calzaghe

yep really wish woods vs calzaghe fight would of come together but like most big fights with calzaghe it somehow didnt happen :-\ i used to like calzaghe but he has been letting me down lately that i have no choice and cant defend the guy like most of calzaghe fans on here cant anymore

Re: Clinton Woods invades Vegas!
I would love to see the Woods vs Calzaghe fight i think i would respect Calzaghe more if he took a fight like this and end of the day if he wins its another world title and at a different weight although i would be rooting for Woods

Why would Calzaghe fight at a different weight now, when hes so close to getting his name in the record books for most defences? I agree that Id like to see him against some better opposition but still defending his belt at super middle.
-
Re: Clinton Woods invades Vegas!
dont worry bout this fight, its just so he can look good against someone he's already beaten to impress the yanks so he can make a more meaningful fight with Roy Jones or Antonio Tarver happen somewhere down the line. Clinton Woods is not Joe Calzaghe, he's not scared of fighting anyone, so have a bit of faith.

records mean nothing mate when you havent faced any top opponents id rather fight best opponents out there than to break silly records that wont mean anything fighting bums
and he hasnt got that many fights left either how many more defences does he need to break record ??

I can see were your coming from but what is he proving by fighting him again? he will probs win the fight and it doesnt push his carrer any further does it? imo its a risk cos if he loses hes screwed! he should atleast try and fight RJJ again. i would prefer him in the ring with RJJ than JG being honest.

Of course, me too. A Jones rematch is what hes after as well but before that can happen he needs to impress the American audience. Until he puts on a good show on Amercan tv theres jus no interest in the fight over there.

But why does he have to rematch JG? i would prefer him to spark out a bum instead of fighting him again, too high risk and doesnt push him forward at all!

Re: Clinton Woods invades Vegas!
Julio Gonzales is far from a bum, he'll come to make a fight of it and hopefully it'll be more competetive than just Clinton Woods knocking out a bum. That'll impress people far more than knocking out a nobody, and remember creating a good buzz about himself is what Clinton Woods needs to do if he wants to get a bigger fight in the US.
