Aaron Pryor vs Ricky Hatton
Alright who wins this one... You got to relentless animals battling it out, I always thought Pryor was a freak of nature that had steely determination and a certain grit about him, and well one way to sum up the Hitman is that he is a friggin bulldog and a menace..
I say this one is as an absolute classic battle and one for the ages with one of them edging out a SD or quite possibly a draw
Thoughts? ;)

Re: Aaron Pryor vs Ricky Hatton
As much as i love Ricky, Aaron Pryor was cut from a different cloth and would have chopped up RickyHatton .
Aaron Pryor at Lightwelter Against Roberto Duran one of the greatest matches never to happen . ;)
-
Re: Aaron Pryor vs Ricky Hatton
aaron pryor would make rickys face look mess the ref would stop it in 9th round with horrible cuts on hatton
thing is just say hatton was beating pryor on inside which i dont think he would pryor could also box aswell like he showed in first arguello fight

Adam I thought of that, dont forget Ricky is tough, mauling and physically imposing has excellent timing and closes the distance very well... Hard fight to pick for me :-\

Re: Aaron Pryor vs Ricky Hatton
Good thread: Hatton is a tough tough fighter, punishing aggressor with underrated boxing skills and a good heart ........ but I would have to agree that Pryor was just phenomenal - he would be as tough an Hatton and would not back away (I suspect that it would end up being hatton who would start to tire and be looking to hold by the 6th.
If Pryor hasn't opened up some serious cuts on hatton, I think his pressure tells against Hattons (now) suspect stamina and he stops an exhausted Hatton somewhere around the 9th in a see-saw battle. I respect Ricky's pride and heart and I think it will be Hatton's stamina that lets him down, not his ability to share the ring with a true ATG?
My opinion, only of course !!

Re: Aaron Pryor vs Ricky Hatton
Yeah, I love Ricky, but Pryor is arguably the greatest 140 fighter of all time. This would be an all time classic battle, a Mugabi-Hagler type fight. Hatton would have his moments, but the greater figher would come out on top. Pryor by late KO.

Re: Aaron Pryor vs Ricky Hatton
This matchup is as absurd as a matchup between Tommy Hearns and Smoke Gainer.
Hatton does not deserve to be mentioned in the same book as Pryor, let alone the same sentence.

Totally agree. Watch Pryor take out Arguello on YOUTUBE and you can see he fought at a much higher level. Pryor was a smart fighter who was blessed with uncommon stamina and a whirlwind style that was pressuer, pressuer, pressue. I like Ricky, but he is way out of his class in this one.
-
Re: Aaron Pryor vs Ricky Hatton
why are we putting hatton in the same sentence as Pryor, what the hell did hatton do to get mentioned with Pryor. This post is ubsurd only a person that knows nothing about boxing would give haton any kind of a chance
-
Re: Aaron Pryor vs Ricky Hatton
Pryor would of broken down Hatton by the 5th round
-
Re: Aaron Pryor vs Ricky Hatton
Ricky's a nice person and fun to watch, but theres no chance Ricky win this against Aaron (who i think if not the greatest 140 pounder). Aaron Pryor will walk through Ricky easy within six rounds.

I would say the same but within 10.

Re: Aaron Pryor vs Ricky Hatton
Ricky is a tough kid who can be an all action fighter when he wants...I love his inside game when he applies it. The reason I became a Hatton fan is his inside fighting...It is like he never stop's punching,,,But...( you knew there was a but coming :D)
Aaron Pryor is one of those guys that seems to be made of a different substance.....Aaron was not tough but a genuinly bad SOB....He was mean,,took a great punch and was ruthless....He did not beat guys he ruined them,,,,Aaron went after every opponent like they robbed his Mothers purse and was going to teach them a lesson
39-1 (35) is damn impressive and speaks for itself it wasn't until later on when he was slipping and getting old bobby joe young managed the fight of his life....It would be fun while it lasted but Hatton would end up a mess on the canvas being saved by the ref

Re: Aaron Pryor vs Ricky Hatton
Pryor is streets ahead of his nearest rival at 140. I can't think of a 140lb fighter in history that goes the distance with him (including Chavez) let alone beats him when he was in his prime.
Arguello was a truly great fighter - but if you want to see how tough Aaron Pryor was, look at the right hand he takes in the 13th round (second last round) of that fight. That right hand would have KO'd just about any other guy who ever lived yet Pryor shrugged it off and came out and stopped Arguello in the next round.
Toughest, most relentless guy I ever saw was Aaron Pryor.
But let's not forget that Hatton isn't even 30 yet - he still has time to improve and put on career defining performances. But it's my fear that Hatton's best years may already be behind him - and he spent too much of those toiling against sub par opponents.
-
Re: Aaron Pryor vs Ricky Hatton
I like Hatton, but he'd get his a** handed to him by Pryor. They're not in the same league.
-
Re: Aaron Pryor vs Ricky Hatton
Give it 2 years. Perhaps if Pryor's son can shrink down 20lbs he can get it on with Hatton. I'm kidding, of course. Pryor Jr. is much different from his father and with only 8 fights under his belt there's no telling what kind of fighter he'll turn in to in a few years. But he's tall, I think around 6'2" and he has some serious pop. He hits with ill-intent.

Re: Aaron Pryor vs Ricky Hatton
Against Alexis Arguello i think he changed his style he boxed through the middle rounds beautifully and wasnt the mauler i had seen in him in fights previously .
Hard to believe Pryor was registired as Physically DISABLED as a youngster.

Actually, I think that Lyle should start a new forum on existential philosophy. He seems to have devised a totally new concept of thinking. ;D
I'm not sure that anyone calling themselves 'bigsexy' will have much to contribute until they get to a certain number of posts (!). The lack of imagination applied to conjuring up that name does not lead one to picture an intellectual giant casting their pearls of wisdom amongst us lowly pygmies. I think 'ubsurd' was a clue there as 'u' is nowhere near 'a' on a QWERTY keyboard ;)
Only winding you up bigsexy
PS ....... are you Big, and are you also 'Sexy' as defined by the majority of people on this board?

One man who may cause Pryor some trouble at 140 is a prime Kostya Tszyu. Hatton beat a vey old Tszyu but WOULD mark my words have been KTFO by Tszyu in his prime.
I think this would have been a better fantasy match to have, all due respect to Hatton who I do like but he isn't in this league.
-
Re: Aaron Pryor vs Ricky Hatton
This would be an intriguing fight, but ultimately, Aaron "The One I Mixed" Pryor ;) would overwhelm Hatton with his power and boxing ability. Brutal KO for Pryor.

One of the few times I've ever agreed with anything smashcrusher had to say.
:) :)

Re: Aaron Pryor vs Ricky Hatton
I love Hatton but the Hawlk would beat Ricky in what would be a war while it lasted.
At 140lbs no-one would beat a prime Pryor not Mayweather not Tszyu not Hatton.
-
Re: Aaron Pryor vs Ricky Hatton
Pryor smokes Hatton. Case closed.

Re: Aaron Pryor vs Ricky Hatton
I give Pryor every chance of stopping Floyd let alone the Fatman, it's Pryor for me in a brutal breakdown of Hatton by the 8th. Pryor was sometimes careless in his approach to his fights and often got caught and went down but his relentless attacks on his opponents was something in a league of his own. I give only a prime Tszyu any chance of stopping Aaron Pryor at 140lb.
Prime Tszyu 1998-2002 also stops Hatton.

Re: Aaron Pryor vs Ricky Hatton
This fight wouldn't even be competitive. Hatton corner throws in the towel by the 3rd round
-
Re: Aaron Pryor vs Ricky Hatton
Mythical match-ups are always tough to call....except here! Pryor wins with or without his water bottle.
-
Re: Aaron Pryor vs Ricky Hatton
Pryor wins in a slug fest , tko 4
-
Re: Aaron Pryor vs Ricky Hatton
Yeah, Pryor is something you simply don't see. I think the guys at 140 with the best chances to beat him are Niccolino Locche (whom I think could have competed in any era) and of course Pernell Whitaker.
As for a match up with Pryor. Imagine if you took the Hatton that faced Tszyu or Tackie and put him in with Pryor? Wow :o That would be something else. Of course Pryor wins but there would be not an inch of give in that one, a match up I think every Sadist boxing fan on the planet would have loved to have seen.
Pryor though would have been the one singing at the end.
"Anything you can do, I can do better..."
OK that was rather gay. Whatever, I'm sure VD would have loved to see this fight.

Agreed. Hatton is tough enough to make it entertaining and last fil around the 8th, but ultimately Pryor is just superior in every department and breaks him down to a bloody mess.

Re: Aaron Pryor vs Ricky Hatton
One of the coolest things I've ever seen in boxing was when Pryor I think it was Akio Kameda he was fighting, he started out on the pounce as always, had Kameda hurt in the first minute of the fight and then got caught himself on his back foot and went on his back, did a backwards somersault and sprang right back up and put Kameda back on the ropes with a couple punches before the referee could even manage to grab him and give him his count.
I don't know many things a fighter can do to scare his opponent that would get the job done any better then that. That was great.
-
Re: Aaron Pryor vs Ricky Hatton
so do people also think pryor would KO Tsyu as well... lets not forget ricky stopped him...
-
Re: Aaron Pryor vs Ricky Hatton
i think this would be more competitive then what most are saying here. I still think aaron will win but it'll be tough cause aaron does like to take it to his oppenent and brawl.
-
Re: Aaron Pryor vs Ricky Hatton
Hatton would have been a good sparring partner for Pryor.
In a fight Hatton gets KTFO!!!!!
-
Re: Aaron Pryor vs Ricky Hatton
hatton that fought kostya would of given pryor a good run for his money. mayweather at 140 would of beaten him imo. kostya at his best again its a 50-50 fight, however id o think everyone mentioned so far are great fighters.
remember hatton is undefeated at 140 and did beat a kostya that only a year earlier had beaten mitchell in 3 rounds.
it would be alot closer than many make out
-
Re: Aaron Pryor vs Ricky Hatton
and also dont forget hattons punch resistance and stamina in his prime. the shots he took from kostya and to fight like he did for 11 rounds, you cant question his stamina or punch resistance in his prime, its not even a debate
-
Re: Aaron Pryor vs Ricky Hatton
Please somebody tell me Ive got this wrong. On his resume theres Cervantes almost a 100 fights past his best. Argguilla was a great Super Feather not a great Lt welter, who was on his front foot made for Aaron Joe Young beat him. Im missing something somewhere Please put me right
