Ricky Hatton

what does everybody want to see him do after another fight at 140? I really think he needs to get back to 147 and get a fight with Cotto. Ive been thinking what has he got to prove at staying at 140? There aint no big names except Castillo and i think Ricky will win that one. Thats why i was truely against the move back to 140 and i know you will all say he wasnt up for 147 but were is the risk taking that makes boxing exciting? I remember when Hatton was the true underdog against KT and i prefered it that way because it brought the best out of him. Risk taking is what makes an exciting match up and i feel Hatton would be the underdog against Cotto and would cause the upset, i have real faith in him for that.

The big money fights for Hatton are at 147 against either Mayweather or Cotto.

And Mayweather or Cotto would both destroy Hatton.

I really didnt see how Urangos body shots hurt Ricky, Ricky killed Urango except for the 5th round on my card. I think the Cotto fight HAS! to be made if both Hatton and Cotto get through their next fights, i want to be able to have that buzz i once felt when Hatton took on KT because i know he will win. no doubt about it!

He's the type of fighter who will jump up again and take risks,like you say the money is made so i can't see him rotting away in the Jnr division.
I think if he beats Castillo then he has no choice and a Cotto or Judah fight will be made by public demand 8)

I think Cotto and Floyd are the only fights he would go north of 140 for. I think it would be unwise to fight Cotto at 147, make him come down to 143 ;)

Thats the way Ricky fights though he gets his breath by holding them, he never stands off thats why he was doing it more towards the end because he was getting tierd. he won every round except for one imo and he did well and just look how much Ricky out landed him, it was a good win for him. thats why i believe he needs the bigger fights at 147.

ICB you have to think that in terms of lagacy  and wanting to prove he is one of the best British fighters, he needs those 147 fights and im not trying to LC down but he underestimated him and only had 6 weeks prep. were as for LC it was the biggest fight of his life etc, I know Hatton would never make that mistake again though!

IF he goes to 147 which he should do i really think a fight against LC should be on the cards to prove it was a one off. which i know it was.

This is the most exciting fight in boxing right now for me.Hatton vs Cotto would be a crime if it did not come off.I have been a hatton supporter for a while now and i think its fair to say that other than mayweather this is the fight everyone seems to speak about.After the maussa fight ricky said he would would be going after cotto and floyd but since then he seems to have gone the easy way and fight nobodys and when i say that i dont mean caslillo who imo is a bit past his use by date.And another thing that should be pointed out is ricky was due to fight gatti at wealterweight untill he was done by baldi so i dont think there should be to many problems making this fight if he realy wants it..

He's not getting any better (on the slide if anything) and after he's beaten Castillo (hopefully) he'll have two GREATS on his unbeaten resume and his place in Brtish boxing history is firmly set (is already).

The MEGA fights at 147 will only happen if Hatton gets MEGA money. Making the inevitable defeat worthwhile.

But that is my point, he may not be able to beat them but it would atleast show he has balls in moving up to fight the tougher guns except for these 140 bums! which they are indeed and dont push Hattons legacy anywere. I think the last time Hatton was doubted against KT look what happend there! he suits being the underdog.

both cotto and hatton have really got their hands full with judah and castillo but if they both win it would be awesome to set up a clash for around crimbo time. hatton has had some awkward fighters to look good against since KT but with castillo being more conventional as he's a come forward orthodox fighter i can really see hatton shining.
i think cotto probably still doesnt find it easy to make 147 so i cant see him goin down any less to meet hatton as a catch weight so the advantage would go straight to cotto for that. but if hatton sorts out his stamina problems then he has the style that will give cotto all kinds of problems. cotto likes to dictate his own pace and steal a lot more little breathers than ricky does so i could see hatton out working him.
but as ricky wants the big fights he knows himself that he will have to go up to 147 because after JLC there isnt really much down at light welter except a rematch with JLC if he loses ( i dont think he will).

I'm not arguing what I want. I'd LOVE to see Ricky fight Cotto or Mayweather but I feel his chances of beating those guys are long gone and not coming back.

Hattons got huge balls, for sure, but he's not stupid. He tried 147 and it was a mistake. He now says he never had any intentions of moving to 147 but thats how it played out at the time. So I don't think these fights will happen now.

At 140 he has WITTER!!!! ;D This fight NEEDS to happen.

I think Ricky made mistakes going to 147 the first time because he underestimated LC and by doing that he wasnt fully focoused. He had 6 weeks training and he had never ever been at 147 before, it was on amercian soil and he had never experienced anything like that. I think if he stayed at 147 took on the bum that Cotto beat he would gain confidence in becoming the man at 147. I know he did the wrong thing going to 140 because at the end of the day he did beat LC right? It's not BS.
Cotto is bigger and stronger than Hatton, with more punching power.
Ricky would be the shorter fighter and would have the shorter reach. Which means he would have to fight on the inside against a fighter with more firepower.
Winning a fight is all about having advantages.
Against Cotto, Hatton does not have a height advantage, he does not have a reach advantage, he does not have a power advantage, and I also don't see Hatton having any major advantage in speed or pure boxing ability.
And it's not just Cotto. Hatton doesn't have the weapons to beat a talented, natural welterweight. I can't see Hatton defeating Judah, let alone Mayweather or Cotto.
Why do you think Hatton ran back to 140 after only one fight at 147?? There's much more money to be made at 147 than 140. He left 147 because he realized he was in over his head.

As someone said before in the thread, if Hatton moves up to 147 to face Floyd or Cotto, it will be because he was offered so much money, that he couldn't refuse. And more power to him if that's what happens, these guys should try to make as much money as they can.

You can talk about the advanteges and how the are stacked against Hatton and dont get me wrong I believe Cotto does have the upper hand, but does that take away the exciment factor? I would love to see Cotto-Hatton because i know Ricky is fighting him to show us he is the best and you cant take that away from him! Everyone was against Hatton against KT and look what he did to him ;)

No, it definitely doesn't take away the excitement factor. I never said that Hatton at 147 against Mayweather or Cotto wouldn't be exciting. I think it would. I would gladly pay the PPV fee to watch either one of those fights.
I just think Hatton would end up taking quite a beating against either one of those guys.

I think the Floyd fight would not happen being honest and i do think floyd would beat Ricky. I truely believe Floyd would beat anyone at 147. But I think the Cotto fight at 147 would be an amazing match up!!! I dont understand why you think he would get beaten up? Hatton is a warrior and so is Cotto and i think it could go either way, but i know that Ricky would take the approach of the underdog which is rightly so and i really think it would push him like we have never seen before and i can see a Hatton win here for sure.

Witter's a British fans fight that's been lingering for half-a-dozen years or so. They're now both TOP guys at 140. It makes sense to everyone bar Hatton and his most ardent fans, strangely. :-\

Put it this way, I gaurantee should Hatton beat Castillo his next opponent (bet he doesn't even fight again this year, there's a lot of dining out to be done on the back of that victory) certainly wont be no star name. He's due a fight in Britain too.

Dont get me wrong Hatton has done well to get were he is but i just dont see why he isnt capable of going even further? Hatton-Cotto would be an amazing match up and i like the sound of Hatton-Cotto a lot more than Hatton-Witter. I just think Hatton is capable of pulling of the win and he can go even further imo.

I wouldn't be so sure that Hatton -Cotto is a foregone conclusion !

Cotto got badly Rocked against Corley ,Bailey and was down and almost out twice against Torres he is vulnerable to short punches on the inside , he can be hurt !!

Hatton seems to be standing still in many peoples eyes .

But remember Morrales after the Gutsy Espadas fight , Barrera after Jones , Mosely after the Forrest loss? I remember so called experts swearing blind that Morrale was shot , Barrera was 4-1 against in the 1st Morrales fight and considered completely gone and Mosely didnt win for 4 fights after Adrian Stone .

Cotto was going through the same thing as Hatton is now he is not the 1st and wont be the last to be questioned it happens to all fans favourites with combative styles,Rickycan adapt .

I understand what you're saying, Tam. Everyone has their limits though.

I like the sound of Hatton-Cotto more than Hatton-Witter too. But I like the sound of Hatton-Witter a hell of a lot more than Hatton-vs-No-name. Which I suspect will come after Castillo.

this is were Hatton could pick up the eye of the people, by moving back to 147 fighting LC again makeing sure he is fully ready for it and then possible fight the winner of Judah-Cotto. i would prefer to see Hatton-colloza then Hatton-Witter again. Just so Ricky can show what he is capable off.

Totally agree Cotto looks very strong at 147 even though he has'nt been put in with the big boys yet.Judah should cause him problems with his speed and power in the early rounds,Judah has the power to stop Cotto aswell.Cotto must be carefull early but his strenght will wear Judah down.

It would be very wise for Hatton to get Cotto to shed a few more pounds so the fight could happen at a catch weight.If it happens at a catch weight its a more even fight.But i just carnt see Cotto giving away the weight advantage.

How you can call the win over KT awful is beyond me. It was a spectacular win and Hatton used the home advantage to his best and he beat the champion who had been the champ at 140 for years!

The KT fight was entertaining all the way through the fight.

Im i an only beliver that Ricky should try and fight Cotto? I just dont understand why people are so against him moving up weight ???

i think we all might be jumping the gun a bit here because hatton still has to get through castillo and cotto still has to get through judah before these boys would meet. and come to think of it judah has to get through some bum before he can try to get through cotto so these guys have all got their hands full. but hypothetically IF hatton beats castillo and IF cotto beats judah i can see no reason why these biys wont fight around crimbo time.

If Hatton was to go up to fight Cotto at 147 i would like to see him have a warm up fight,just to get used to the different weight.Not sure he should be jumping straight up into a Fight with Cotto.

he may not need it mate if he had time to grow and train at the weight.
he shouldnt be judged too much by the performance against colazo because of the lack of preperation ricky had. a clash with cotto would be set up months before actually taking place and ricky would have plenty of time to prepare. if hatton only has a few years left in the sport which is what i'm hearing a lot lately i wouldnt like to see him waste the few fights he has left by fighting another smaller name just as a warm up bout.
