***Manfredo has a 30/70 shot!***
I can't sit here and say that Peter is gonna walk in there and look great... Joe makes many fighters look for answers thoughout fights with his hand speed and angles. Sometimes he fights down to his opposition. (Bika, who in my mind is very limited but fought a good fight) Joe made Lacy look like Clubber Lang in Rocky's second meeting with him. Joe is getting older. Peter is 26.
Peter has finally found his weight that he feels comfortable at and has grown into it well.(I know he has fought lack luster opposition thus far @ SMW but he looks incredebly strong and light on his feet) He nolonger needs to drain his energy @ Jr. MW. I can honestly see an upset happening. Of course it is truly hard to call only seeing Manfredo in 6 rounds as a SMW(3 in each fight). He has been in deep water a bunch of times in hes career and fought well(granted not against a guy who refuses not to let off the gas like Joe).
This fight will come down to one thing IMO... That Peter can keep up with Joe's work rate. Peter has shortened his punches and his hand speed is good. He has always been an acurate puncher. It will come down to how much peter has in the tank and how good Fortune's conditioning in camp really was. :)
-
Re: ***Manfredo has a 30/60 shot!***
I think it will come down to the fact that Peter is nowhere near as good as Calzaghe is and he's fought absolutely noone to even test the waters at SMW. Pemberton and Spina may as well have been super heavy's it doesn't make a difference when they suck and can't land anything. Peter doesn't have a chance and Calzaghe deserves all the criticism he's gotten for taking this fight.
-
Re: ***Manfredo has a 30/60 shot!***
yeah manfredo has a chance. he has two fists and a heart beat (as rocky would say) so he has a chance. but from JC's point of view PM is only there to lose and to help JC move on to bigger and better things in the states. but even if calzaghe underestimates him i still see him winning. he's just to good for manfredo
-
Re: ***Manfredo has a 30/60 shot!***
hey pride of boston havent seen you in while but i honestly believe manfredo has no chance not even lucky punch because manfredo isnt really one hit ko guy
-
Re: ***Manfredo has a 30/60 shot!***
All I'm basicly trying to say is... Peter MAY have a beter shot then some of you think. I agree Joe is the overall better fighter and owns the weight class but stranger things have happened... Joe better not take this kid from Silver Lake, RI lightly or he could be in for a good old-fashioned Rhode Island Ass Kicking...

We don't really know that yet... He's only been in 6 rounds at SMW but I tend to agree... I hope the kid at least makes me proud or I'll never hear the F***in end of it on here!

I have a hard time understanding where anyone finds Manfredo to have a decent shot in this fight.. What can he do better than Calzaghe? Nothing. He's lost to fringe contenders on that TV show at 154, for gods sake he had trouble with Sergio Mora's pressure.. Manfredo is a good boxer, he works well from the outside, he is fairly accurate, but he does not fight well when someone jumps on him.. I could see that even in his fight with Spina, he was a little buzzed at the end of the first round when Spina managed to get inside and do something. So how the hell is he going to deal with Calzaghe right in his face throwing tons of shots from all angles.. He can't fight on the inside, this is a complete farce of a matchup. Peter will absolutely crumble, and he'd have far exceeded my expectations of him if he lasted past 5 or 6 rounds, let alone if he actually made it competitive. Like someone else said, if Calzaghe so much as looks like he's been in a scrap he's past it... Unless Manfredo really has done something amazing in camp, and improved miles in every department.

This is all I can really hope for but, hey, like I said... I just want the kid to make me proud... If he can go 12 and not have it rediculously lopsided, there is hope for him atop the div some day!

Re: ***Manfredo has a 30/60 shot!***
Peter Manfredo has about as much chance of winning this as I do getting a blowjob from the pope.

If Peter get's his azz kicked like most think he will, you will not come back here.
So with that being said, it was nice having you on the forum.

Yea you should be praying on this one... CC though, sticking to your guy through and through. Having said that, being a fan of his wouldn't you like to have seen him take a better/easier route up the ladder at super middle? I mean he basically just had a couple exhibitions at the weight. I think he did look good, and is a much improved fighter from when he was on the contender. It's just he could be alot better in the big picture if he had worked his way up the ranks and fought some mid level competition.. How is he even warranted a title shot? Noone seems to bring that up, he's only fought Pemberton and Spina, who were not comparable to world talent.. Anyways, I would love to be proved wrong, I really really would, if only because Im a sucker for the underdog and Joec has pissed me off not taking big fights.. It would amaze me if Manfredo goes 12 and impresses like you say, if he can make this competitive in any way it will boost his stock. I just really want to see Calzaghe take on Kessler or the winner of Wright Hopkins, Taylor, even Tarver or Glen Johnson, Clinton Woods... You know? I am a big fan of the way he fights..

Oh, I agree totally... You think I wanted to see this fight? Look... This kid is from my home town. The last thing I wanted to happen was see him take a fight like this to early and get mopped up before he had a chance to be taken seriously... Not many people are taking this fight seriously but I am surly trying(and hoping) that the kid can stand up to skill like that. The fight I really wanted to see(I said this a year ago) was Manfredo Green but he skipped 7 rungs on the ladder... and yes exhibitions is exactly what those last two fights were... If he is anywhere close to where he could be with the training he's recieving, I just hope for a competitive night and I hope the kid has the gusto to hurt Joe... That!! That!! would be a feet... (Let me dream, damn it!)

Re: ***Manfredo has a 30/60 shot!***
I think Manfredo has a good chance at going the distance. I will be surprised if he gets KOed by Joe C. Joe hasnt been the puncher like he was when he was younger, he is more of a volume puncher with speed now. I think that Manfredo will do himself proud, he will be fighting an uphill battle against Joe. Manfredo's only chance of a sure victory is to KO Joe, but there is not much of a chance of that happening. A decision going Manfredo's way is out of the question, so his best chance is to put up a good showing to move his stock up some more for a title fight down the line. I would like to see him beat Joe, just cuz I think Joe deserves it for taking all of the crap fights that he has.
-
Re: ***Manfredo has a 30/60 shot!***
Manfredo likes to stand there and let opponents get off on him so he can respond with his crisper shots, but it cost him against Sergio Mora and will cost him against Calzaghe, if he wants to stand any chance he should go to Joe's body.
-

He knows he's not fighting Mora or Spina or Pemberton... He and Freddie(Fortune) are smarter then having the kid stand in front of Joe... It would be a Lacy repeat... Sitting there like an idiot with one hand cocked back!

I really don't think it's going to matter how well Manfredo has trained. He and Calzaghe aren't even the same species of fighter-- it'll be like fighting a swarm of bees. The only thing you can manage is to flee as they sting you at will. Manfredo's two journeys at SMW are not good prep for Calzaghe.

I dont think Manfredo has a chance on his best day and on Joe's worst. These two are just not in the same league. He will look similar to Bravo when he fought Berto recently and got flat out worked. The only old fashioned Rhode Island ass kicking is gonna be the one Joe C. puts on the Rhode Island Reality Show Runner Up...or maybe the one Peter Griffin put on that damn chicken that keeps showing up on Family Guy. To quote my room mate, Manfredo has lost to Sergio Mora twice. Sergio Mora is trash. Now they are putting him in the ring with an actual seasoned accomplished legitimate champion who has not lost in what, 10 years about? That's cool you got Boston/Rhode Island pride, but I think that is what is speaking here...and it is drowning out your common sense. There will be no upset or hope of a victory for Manfredo on April 7. He will be a stepping stone and an easy win aimed to pad Joe's record and get him one step closer to breaking Hopkins' record of title defenses.

I can't let my Boston brother carry the torch for Peter alone. I'm not giving Pete a 30% chance. I'm not sure I'm giving him a 10% chance...no I'm giving him a 10% chance. His chance is that Joe breaks a hand or two :) Seriously.
You bring up the Mora fight...I just don't give that much weight. In the first fight, you had a weight drained 12 round fighter against an awkward and fast Mora. Peter never got hurt, he just got outworked. The second fight was pure home-cookin' for Mora. I've watch that fight TRYING to give rounds to Mora, and he gets a maximum of 3. On my card he got one or two.
Why would you think he will get blowin out like Bravo against Berto? Manfredo has never been down. He rarely gets hurt. He has defensive skills and he can counterpunch. He's much stronger now than he ever has been. The kid is a fighter. Although he doesn't have the power or strength of Lacy, he has 10x the skills of Lacy. Lacy came out and tried to take Joe's head off. That was his plan A,B, and C. He played right into Joe's strenghts and still, Joe didn't stop him.
Peter is going the distance. Joe will likely cruise to a 12round UD. The fight will be entertaining. Manfredo will make some adjustments at some point and land a few nice flurries. He may even steal two rounds and make 2 more kinda close. If Joe breaks his left hand, things could go differently, but I can just don't see Peter getting stopped.

He's going too tcounter. He'll cover up a lot, he'll roll and look to counter, but he won't be able to do enough to make much impact. The one thing that will help a little is his straight right. He's developed a pretty good one, with some nice pop. It's short and it gets there quick. Joe will eat a few before the night is out, but it ain't gonna be enough, I'm afraid. He'll land that straight more than Lacy landed the hook, but that ain't saying much.

Re: ***Manfredo has a 30/70 shot!***
I agree that Manfredo is in well over his head and on the surface has no chance whatsoever.
HOWEVER, I know that Miles is backing Calzaghe to destroy Manfredo and in case you didn't know Miles is the worst tipster of all time!
Honestly, you would rather have Barry McGuigan backing you than Miles, he has never got a correct pick.
You could clearly see the 'Miles' effect during the Barrera Marquez fight. Barrera, Mile's pick fought a great fight but 'Miles Law' meant he could not win, hence terrible judges decision, no knockdown rulings and deducted points for Barrera.
Logically Calzaghe has to win, it's a virtual mathematical certainty, but Miles tipping him to destroy Manfredo is I fear too big a hurdle even for Calzaghe to overcome.

His other attack will be when JC breaks both hands, lol. IMO Manfredo's only shot is to stalk Calzaghe and work the body HARD. I don't think Peter has an answer for Calzaghe's speed, but you know the old saying "kill the body and the head will die." I think that is his only shot. Something Manfredo definately has going for him though is his chin.
That being said. Manfredo is gonna have to walk through fire to get anything done.
I'm rooting for Manfredo, but I'm giving him next to nothing of a chance.

Yeah u definitely are right about the second Mora fight. Manfredo got robbed. It doesnt change the fact that they are second rate fighters compared to A level guys like Calzaghe, Hopkins, Taylor, etc. He may not get stopped he may just get punished for 12 brutal rounds like Lacy did. Truthfully I think J.C. could have closed the show on Lacy if he had wanted to. I think he wanted to make it a brutal punishing clinic and prolonged it intentionally. And I dont think Manfredo has 10 times the boxing skill of Lacy. Calzaghe made Lacy look like a clown; that does not mean he is. Lacy was a good fighter. He was just thrown in with one that was that much better. I think it will look similar to the Lacy fight except Manfredo I doubt is bold enough to keep coming forward like Jeff did. I still say he gets punished for 12 or KOed, depending on what Joe Calzaghe feels like doing to him. Unless of course like you say, Joe breaks his hands. Both of them.
-
Re: ***Manfredo has a 30/70 shot!***
I dont think Joe could put Lacy away, I feel if he could he would have. Since he didnt it raises the question about his power. It is hard to argue that he could when he hit Lacy somewhere around a thousand times in 12 rounds, you cant tell me that at least one of those shots was some type of power shot intent on putting Lacy down. Especially with Joe's brittle hands, dont think he would intentially want to keep hitting anything.

I knew you would be at it!!! >:mad
Barrera won that fight, but no matter how much I howl into the abyss the divine powers always go against me!! Calzaghe will beat Manfredo silly!!!
If he doessnt then im gonna take up croquet!!! :-\
Don't worry buddy you are helping me. I just bet on the guy whovever he is that you think will lose and then draw my winnings from William Hill the next day. 8)

Re: ***Manfredo has a 30/70 shot!***
Odds from Ladbrokes: Calzaghe to win 1.02 draw is 35 and Manfredo 11
I hope Calzaghe takes Manfredo out in the first round and realize that this kind of "fight" is a waste of time, so many good names around and they pick Manfredo ::**

Re: ***Manfredo has a 30/70 shot!***
Thats what joe has done most of his career. joe is tha man. everyone wants to fight him. yet his team handpicks opponents. no use being 50 - 0 if 99% of your opponents dont deserve a shot. happens in australia with the IBF all tha time.

I dont think Manfredo has a chance on his best day and on Joe's worst. These two are just not in the same league. He will look similar to Bravo when he fought Berto recently and got flat out worked. The only old fashioned Rhode Island a** kicking is gonna be the one Joe C. puts on the Rhode Island Reality Show Runner Up...or maybe the one Peter Griffin put on that damn chicken that keeps showing up on Family Guy.
Lacy has ZERO defense, no jab, and no strategy other than to come forward. Calzaghe made him look like a clown because the can move and throw great combo's. Lacy is a one trick pony. It was good trick and it took him a long way against inferior fighters, but against a complete fighter like Calzaghe, he looked like a fool. Manfredo is a more complete fighter than Lacy. He won't look as bad as Lacy did, because he won't keep blindly coming forward and walking into combinations.
If Joe could have KO'd Lacy, he would have done it. If he can KO Peter, he will. I'm just not sure he has the power to KO a beast like Lacy or a guy like Manfredo who is both tough and cute. We'll see what happens soon.

cc for you. All solid points.

Re: ***Manfredo has a 30/70 shot!***
I'm a ride Manfredo all the way in this fight. He's the lesser of two evils. This is pretty much a win-win situation for me. Best case scenario is Manfredo knocks Calzaghe out. That right there would kill 2 birds with one stone. It'll be the end of Calzaghe. And it'll set up Manfredo for a beat down at the hands of Kessler. If it doesn't work out that way. And Calzaghe has a easy night? Well it was only Manfredo he destroyed. No big deal. Calzaghe gets no credit for the win. And I get to see Manfredo gets his ass kick. Like I said. Win. Win.

Peter doesn't have a chance and Calzaghe deserves all the criticism he's gotten for taking this fight.
:coolclick: Well said. It's akin to throwing a lamb to a wolf. Dundee put it in similar terms a while back on FNF. Manfredo gets a decent pay-day, but at what cost?

Lacy his so mentally tuff . . Lacy was hurt bad early in the match, and never recovered, he went on auto pilot , that was because of Joe's power and accurate punching . I am not sure Lacy will ever be the same fighter he was before the Calzaghe fight, truth be told. it was one of those bruising fights that takes something out of you, that you never get back .
