Re: Why Do People Always Criticize Roy Jones Record
these are the same people who scientists refer to as: HATERS!
theres certain people out there who when they see others do exceptionally well so well that they make it seem easy, these people HATE on that person doing exceptionally well.
also theres certain fans who'd rather see their fighters get bloody and come close to losing a fight but in the end come out strong to win the fight. so these same fans hate someone like roy who purely dominated everyone he stepped into the ring with.

Re: Why Do People Always Criticize Roy Jones Record
I criticise his record because for me he had incredible talent and yet was content to take the easy option too often after beating Toney and Hopkins. And yes, I even include fighting Ruiz as an easy option.
There are question marks over both of the wins over Hopkins and Toney (still developing and weight drain issues)...

Haters?
I call them True fight fans and im a Big critic of RJJ.
Undeniable skill levels and uniquely talented fighter but the facts are he ducked the best about at a critical time in his career mainly because of what happened to his mate the G-Man.
Who's to say he would have won or lost to the likes of Collins,Benn Eubank and even Calzaghe (if you believe Warren) but the fact is he didn't wanna know and that imo is not the actions of a true Champ.
I'm begining to feel this way about Calzaghe and the lack of interest for his fight in just a few weeks is testiment to that fact.
This place was Buzzing about Joe leading up to the Lacy and even the Bika fight and now he goes for Mangeydo he's rapidly losing face.
You can't cheat the public at the end of the day and still want 100% respect as it simply don't work like that. 8)

I wouldnt accuse Jones of ducking fighters, but seriously look down that resume...where are the name fighters with no question marks attached to their names? There are a lot of stiffs on there!

Pure speculation mate (Anything can happen in boxing) ;)
Still never had the minerals to get in the square circle with him though did he?
85% of Jones opponents were muppets

Nigel Benn would of got beaten one sided because after Gerald fight he had nothing left and mate Roy Jones would of beat Eubank quite comfortably i dont see why Jones would duck any of them was it because he would have to come over there to fight ?? when he is p4p number 1 ?? i wouldn't either

Re: Why Do People Always Criticize Roy Jones Record
I'm not a RJJ fan per-say and I have often criticised his record all in all. But wow! was he talented and skilled. The thing was he was soooo skilled that the guys he faced were really he good but RJJ made them look bad..... The better opposition that he fought he would have go the distance and would have to win the entire fight.....
As for who he could have fought and didn't well, I'll leave that up for the UK people they seem to think RJJ ducked their champs....
They gotta remember though boxing is a 2 way street, theres 2 parties involved and the people in the UK just make it seem like it was ALL RJJ who did not wan't to fight them....
-
Re: Why Do People Always Criticize Roy Jones Record
I agree with you boys, Roy would of wiped the floor with Steve Collins, but Smashup is right, he wouldn't fight him so we'll never know
Thats the way she goes i'm afraid.

Fair comments as usual. To be honest its a Jones: Hopkins rematch that I would have wished have happened more than any other fight. If he could have beaten Hopkins convincingly then thats judgement over for me as to his entire credentials!! ;)

Re: Why Do People Always Criticize Roy Jones Record
Lets have this right 8)
After seeing G man in a coma he simply refused to fight ANYONE who would give him an all out war.
He even stated himself that he would only extend himself in a fight if absolutely neccesary.
That seriously affected his mind seeing his mate so f*cked and you can't blame him for that as they were thick as theives those two.
I'm not slating him skillwise because he was the sh*t but his a**hole dropped out of his shorts after seeing his mate in that state.

agreed but who else at that time would of gave Jones all out war except Benn because Eubank wouldn't of and Steve Collins wern't quite top man in Uk yet because he still had to beat Benn so who else ??

Roy didnt need to travel to the UK to face those guys, would have been nice but then again I dont think Nigel or Chris were spotted in good Ol' Pensacola kicking Roys door down for a fight...
I dont know this and maybe one of you fine Brits could tell me this, but if Warren was Promoting Eubank and Benn, then its no suprise if there was alot of noise being made but nothing materializing...

Lotta people say Nigel Been and Chris Eubank although I read somewhere Chris said he made sure he would never fight Jones because it could have ruined him as fighter.
But I do have a question for you people who say that, of your three(nigel been, chris eubank, steve collins) why did not any one of them fight James Toney who was champ at their time while Roy was a middleweight ???

Montell Griffin is not really a great fighter and neither is Woods. Jones was awesome in his middleweight/supermiddleweight days (when he did face good opposition) and I give him all the props in the world for beating Ruiz for a heavyweight title fraction. I have always liked Roy Jones Jr, but he has fought more bums, gas station attendents and garbagemen than any other hall of fame fighter ever has, man. He ran his career in a safe and businesslike way; getting paid for doing the least amount of work. He could have fought Tarver earlier in his career and maybe even closed the book on him so he never had to rematch him. He could have fought Darius Michaelzewski or traveled to Wales to fight Calzaghe years ago. He could have given Toney a rematch at light heavy or Hopkins a rematch at super middle. He had all kinds of options but chose to take the easier fights and too many times, put more effort into his ring entrances/rap performances than he did into fighting worthy opposition. I love RJJ but it's true. You can't make a mark knocking out a garbage man, even if you fight him with your hands behind your back.

right i like you but i disagree on some parts here ill put it in bold
Montell Griffin was great at that time i mean he beat James Toney twice thats some achievement
why would p4p number 1 fighter travel to wales ?? thats big no no in my book if Calzaghe wants title of being p4p number 1 and beating great champion like Jones he has to come to him
i don't see why he would have to give Toney a rematch he already shut him out virtually winning almost every round
as i say again
James Toney Reggie Johnson Bernard Hopkins Clinton Woods Virgil Hill Montell Griffin
thats pretty great list of fighters to beat
in last say 15 years who has beaten better opposition than Roy Jones ??
i don't think your find many

You're right he could have fought Tarver sooner but thats TARVER'S fault.
Tarver fought Eric Harding for the spot to fight Roy Jones Jr and Tarver got beat and Harding broke his jaw so Harding got the shot against Roy Jones. So it's Tarver's fault Roy didn't fight him sooner, not Roy's, wouldn't Roy have been critisized for fighting the loser rather then the winner?
He woulf have fought James Toney again at Light Heavyweight but James lost twice to Montell Griffin. So Roy fought Montell Griffin. And again, wouldn't Roy have been critisized for fighting the loser and not the winner?
And wasnt Daruisz Michelshwvski beaten by Julio Gonzales who Roy Jones dismantled easily?
So how are you gonna take credit from Roy like that?

Re: Why Do People Always Criticize Roy Jones Record
As Jones is often quoted as saying - He didnt fight nobodies, he just made them look like nobodies.
Although I do agree it would of been good to see him in with some of our Brits, especially Benn or Eubank but can never be sure who was dodging who there.

Gotta CC you here ICB... People can rag on Roy Jones all they want all day about how he didn't fight Eubank, Benn, Collins, or whoever.. But at the end of the day they are basically criticizing him for not travelling overseas where he would make far less money, and have a greater chance to get robbed should it go to the cards. It's silly as fukck. Roy Jones ducked Steve Collins??? THat's literally hilarious. Steve Collins who lost to Reggie Johnson in his prime... Roy ducked him, even though he never fought in the USA ONCE in his entire career, and lost to 2 opponents Roy Jones beat easily... What a farce. Jones JR would have made Collins loook like a completele amatuer. Anyone who can honestly hold something against Jones for not fighting this man is EXTREMELY biased, no matter what anyone else says. If for no other reason(such as his not beating anyone to deserve a shot), the guy had a style that was MADE for RJ jr. It's such a fukin joke, I tell you.

Re: Why Do People Always Criticize Roy Jones Record
My all time favorite fighter is Thomas Hearns , but since i was into boxing i think that Roy Jones is the best fighter ive seen and ive seen lots eg. Hagler / Leonard / chavez / Holmes / Ricardo Lopez / Kaoisai Galaxy etc. so Jones record is a really good 1 as far as im concerned .
He just went on a few years to many for me :)

why would p4p number 1 fighter travel to wales ?? thats big no no in my book if Calzaghe wants title of being p4p number 1 and beating great champion like Jones he has to come to him
i don't see why he would have to give Toney a rematch he already shut him out virtually winning almost every round
as i say again
James Toney Reggie Johnson Bernard Hopkins Clinton Woods Virgil Hill Montell Griffin
thats pretty great list of fighters to beat
in last say 15 years who has beaten better opposition than Roy Jones ??
i don't think your find many
Gotta CC you here ICB...
:coolclick: back i really don't know why people are so harsh on Jones he has probably fought best opposition in last 15 years easily and for people who are so harsh on Jones i would like you to do one thing without sounding nasty just do bit of research on Hill Griffin ect and your find out they were great fighters

Re: Why Do People Always Criticize Roy Jones Record
Dariusz Michalczewski also beat Hill and Griffin, Jones could have fought him? Im sure the defence will contest that Jones shouldnt have to go over to Germany to fight him and that might be true, but that wasnt the question that was asked was it?
Incidently Virgil Hill went to Germany and Beat Maske, it can be done.

really and truthfully Memphis yes that could of be done but i don't see why p4p number 1 should go anywhere if they want to beat the man and be p4p number 1 they have to come to him in my book
and with all questionable decisions in germany like you and i know i wouldn't be too keen either ;)
