Erik Morales-David Diaz officially set for August 4 in Chicago
Well, something I didn't wan't to happen looks like it's happening.... :(
Morales might face David Diaz on July 15th HBO has started working things out and Erik states "I will begin to train in April at my usual location"
http://www.fightnews.com/fightnews_2...uhlldXIdP.html
I'm not happy with this regardless of the outcome, IMO Erik needs to just let it go.....
Will see what happens.....

Is this news? I hadn't heard about it, I'd heard they were thinking about it but didn't know it was official and was set to definitely happen.
Diaz is mediocre as hell but I still don't get this, Morales has taken way too many punches.

Re: ~Erik Morales vs. David Diaz on July 15th~ NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!
Erik wins via tko, dude don't lose faith in Erik yet.
-
Re: ~Erik Morales vs. David Diaz on July 15th~ NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!
And it's PPV... No way; No how
-
Re: ~Erik Morales vs. David Diaz on July 15th~ NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!
I wouldn't mind seeing Barrera - Morales 4. I would rather see that then anything.
-
Re: ~Erik Morales vs. David Diaz on July 15th~ NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!
When will people learn Erik is done. even if he beats This Diaz it means nothing because he will be able to beat none of the big names.
-
Re: ~Erik Morales vs. David Diaz on July 15th~ NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!
Don't kid yourself. Erik Morales is shot and David Diaz will show him how much. Morales will be lucky to last the entire fight.
-
Re: ~Erik Morales vs. David Diaz on July 15th~ NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!
I dont think this is wise of Morales at all...I hope to god he can pull off a win and having got back some of his pride he can retire for good....
I love Morales but dont want to see him in any more wars. Those last 2 fights with Pac were devastating! :-\

His well being will be fine depending on the weight class. What weights this at?
-
Re: ~Erik Morales vs. David Diaz on July 15th~ NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!
Morales career was always going to end like this. Sad.
-
Re: ~Erik Morales vs. David Diaz on July 15th~ NOOOOOOOO!!!!!
OMG I can't believe how much faith you've people lost in him! It's maddening >:mad
If this is at Lightweight he'll do fine! I'm telling you...
-
Re: ~Erik Morales vs. David Diaz on July 15th~ NOOOOOOOO!!!!!
I think this is a bad idea, but unfortunately, I'm not surprised by this at all.
The people who are posting, "He'll be fine" must not have watched his career. Morales has absorbed a ton of punishment, and not the type of punishment that a few months of rest gets rids of.
Now he's moving up to a higher class, where he's already tried unsuccessfully before. I just hope he can make it thru the fight without getting badly hurt.
-
Re: ~Erik Morales vs. David Diaz on July 15th~ NOOOOOOOO!!!!!
Doesn't matter about the weight
We're talking about a once great fighter, with a huge heart, last seen in a ring sat on his arse, before 9 minutes were up, motioning to his corner he's had enough
Morales don't need to fight no more.
-
Re: ~Erik Morales vs. David Diaz on July 15th~ NOOOOOOOO!!!!!
David Diaz is no Manny Pacquiao. David Diaz isn't even a Zahir Raheem. Morales is gonna win.
-
Re: ~Erik Morales vs. David Diaz on July 15th~ NOOOOOOOO!!!!!
So the fight proves what?
-
Re: ~Erik Morales vs. David Diaz on July 15th~ NOOOOOOOO!!!!!
This is like that scene in Jerry Maguire where the hockey player he reps is in the hospital and Jerry is talking about how he'll be back in the rink in no time even though it was like the 3rd time the guy had been knocked unconscious. I feel like the little kid who only wants him to be all right.

OK....
Even if he does beat the overrated Diaz, who does he fight after that?
Like I said this isn't about the boxing part of this, this is about someone hwo rested then trained for months in preparation to fight Pac came back and looked good for 2 and 3 quarter rounds.... Hardly a sign that hes in good shape....
The worst part about this is that Erik will now decorate someone elses record if he looses even if hes past his best days....

I think you hit the nail on the head there . Even if Erik is shot to sh*t , the point is David Diaz is useless . The legit champ is Joel Casamayor but Erik wouldnt go near him , instead he finds himself with a less than formiddable opponent and an opportunity to make history . If anything its a wise move by Erik cuz he's got nothing to lose . It wont effect his legacy as he's already on a losing streak . I duno how 3 back to back losses qualifies you for a shot at the WBC championship in a higher weight but he's got it and its a winnable fight .

Wining 1 more fight proves what?
That hes not done? IMO no,
That he can win 1 more fight? OK, he wins still does not prove much just that he can win 1 more fight, then hes gonna wan't another fight next thing you know hes starting up looking at the venue lights.... :(
If he want's to win a fight then he should fight someone else, someone who posses ZERO threat to him....

I see what your saying and it makes sense but too me it's too much of a risk.
But hey! if wining a fight he can retire in piece then he should go all out....
I just would hate to see him loose then what?
The loosing feeling gets worst?

if he loses then he lost giving all he had, not shaking his head while sitting on the canvas, that image haunts me to this day :-\
I want to see him win this fight and think, no, I know he will and then I want him to retire.

Majesty,
Erik was a WARRIOR his whole career and I mean WHOLE career.....
Some people have only seen Eriks fights from like when he fought Zaragoza and on thats just half of his career story he had some tremendous fights prior to that but not many people have seen...
Hes never quit, hes always comeforward and stood toe to toe.....
In his fight with Pac III, I wasn't angry or mad or sad about him loosing and in that manner cause for once in his boxing life he knew he had been beaten and he knew he had enough there was no need to get up and continue there was no reason to....
When he sat there and shook his head towards his father, his father was yelling get up! get up!
He did the right thing and funny how that image that haunts you reliefs me and makes me proud that for once in his boxing career REAGARDLESS of the warrior he was he knew it was time.....
It really is funny how we can all interpret things differently....

Re: ~Erik Morales vs. David Diaz on July 15th~ NOOOOOOOO!!!!!
Yeah I agree Mick. I would think that if he stayed down, he probably knew it was done. A farewell fight is fine really but Diaz is a guy who Morales probably won't be knocking out, a guy who always gets stronger as the fight goes along and Morales is a guy who has been fading in fights and well it just doesn't spell well. And if he beats Diaz, you really think that he'll retire with a belt? The fact that he is taking this fight shows to me that he wants to continue on after the fight and went for the weakest strap holder he could find.
I've never been the biggest Morales fan, but he's given us countless thrilling fights through the years and I really don't want to see him carrying on like this.

It makes sense to go after Diaz as he is the weakest but still IMO posses a huge threat to Morales.
Well said amat.....

Re: ~Erik Morales vs. David Diaz on July 15th~ NOOOOOOOO!!!!!
I don't like this Diaz fight, but I guess it's less dangerous than the alternative. I guarantee you that if Morales could still make 130 pounds, he'd make the mistake of challenging Marquez, so he could try to outdo Barrera.

He'd sign to fight JMM in a heart beat.... :(

Bad move from EM,he needs to bring his magnificent career to an end. No need to absorb any more punishment whatsoever.

It's not the fact that he got knocked out against Pacquiao. It's the fashion in which he lost both those fights. He lost them both after boxing fairly well then just fading. In the third fight he looked beat 2 rounds in. Is that really a fighter who is in fighting shape? And then at 135 he was made to look the fool by Zahir Raheem who is really just an average fighter at that division. He's lost 3 of his last 4 and he's tiring out quickly.
Now he's facing a fighter who only gets better as he goes along and at a weight not natural to him. He's only 30 years old but unless 135 lbs completely rejuvenates, which it didn't in the past, then I think it is fair to say that he's done.

Maybe. Probably I don't know but that's completely irrelevant. I really don't get the point you're trying to make. Pacman beat the crap out of MAB and Morales beat him and still lost to MAB.
Listen, I'm not calling Diaz a world beater but if you don't see the risk in EM climbing in weight with stamina problems and a decreased workrate facing a guy with a good chin and who is steady throughout the whole fight then I don't know what to say.

???
Where did this comment come from?
Hes lost 4 out of his last 5 fights (3 in a row, 2 by stoppage)
He rested sooo long for PAC III, and got good conditiong took his time trained well and was beat inside of 3 rounds....
It's not about Pac it's about his career and how he fought throughout it.... Never missing a beat knew nothing else but to come forward and fire away....
Like I said even IF he beats Diaz then what?
Retire I hope.....

Raheem been in obscurity and who knows I mean hes mad, frustrated at everything thats happened in his career....
So who knows, really....
Raheem was nothing more then a weight experiment for Morales, Zaheer won and thats great for him....
It's just too bad hes not smart enough to find new management.... :(

I kind of agree with you, Rob. But there is still a part of me that wants to see Morales go out with another great win under his belt. Warriors like Morales are few and far in between. Guys like him make me envy Mexican heraldry.

Re: ~Erik Morales vs. David Diaz on July 15th~ NOOOOOOOO!!!!!
It's not just the fact that Morales has lost 4 out of 5. There's no shame in losing once to Barrera and twice to Pacquiao, they're both great fighters.
It's the way Morales looked in the second half of the Pacquiao fight and the 3 rounds of the 3rd fight. His legs gave out on him.
If you watch the 3rd Pacquiao fight, Morales legs were wobbly even in the first round. His balance was awful, he was unsteady from the opening bell.
There are some things a fighter can fix, and there are some things can't be fixed. When a fighter's legs (and chin) give out, they don't ever come back.

CC in 24. I agree totally. Some guys lose their legs at 30 some lose them at 40 it just so happens Morales lost them at 30. Gatti looked well enough in his bout with Baldomir. He was trading to the final bell but he just didn't have anything behind them, that's why he did that wierd ropes thing because he had no legs to support him or provide power.

Well, I agree to certain degree, but look at Holyfield who was essentially thrown in the garbage after the Bowe bouts.

That was due to hepatitis though. But I get what you mean he is only 30 and it certainly isn't out of the realm of possibility for him to have a Holyfield like second wind.
