Welterweights Beware: Andre Berto is for Real!
Can't wait to see Berto take on some of the divisions best. His skills are nice and his power is crazy. I think he could make a big impact on the division within the next year or two. What do you guys think?

Re: Welterweights Beware: Andre Berto is for Real!
I like this kid. Hope he does well since the WWD is my favorite D.
What is the story on his amatuer background? Wasnt he suspended or DQ'd from the Olympic trials?

I agree, Berto is exciting to watch and up untill this afternoon I was a 'closet fan' of his but yeah! the kids def. got potential with great training and focus he can accomplish as he wishes just a matter of him putting all the tools together and going to work...
Thanks for read.... :)

Re: Welterweights Beware: Andre Berto is for Real!
Berto looks good so far. But I don't think he's ready for the divisions best yet
-
Re: Welterweights Beware: Andre Berto is for Real!
he certainly looks good but lets not overhype the guy just yet,he has a loooong way to go before he can challenge the elite at WW.

I'm not willing to say that just yet. He looks talented, that much is certain but I have seen too many prospects getting KTFO or not looking good(D Hop,Litzau, that Mexican dude whos name I have forgotten etc) to make such a big assumption as to say he will beat alot of top WW especially when you look at the top of the WW foodchain

Re: Welterweights Beware: Andre Berto is for Real!
I like Berto's attitude, he's focued and hungry. A slow but steady step up in comp will be nice to see over the next year or so. I'm excited to watch him, I think he's gonna be a good one.
-
Re: Welterweights Beware: Andre Berto is for Real!
I have to agree with that totally,if they can bring him up slowly, not rush him, that will certainly be to his benefit and also, that is one thing no one can take away from the guy,he has a great attitude. He seems hungry to me too. I feel like watching some of his fights,I'll be back later to post some more feedback. :D

Re: Welterweights Beware: Andre Berto is for Real!
He will end up a disappointment
-
Re: Welterweights Beware: Andre Berto is for Real!
I think very highly of Berto in and out of the ring. Dibella already said he is going to bring him up slowly and correct... I like Berto because he just dosent head hunt, his punch selection and combos are very good!!!! also if you watched the Figueroa fight he was wailing on the kid and he wasnt going down... So Andre would fire in about 5-6 clean hard punches on the ropes and then he would back up and reset knowing he was gonna have to break Figueroa down from an accumaltive standpoint not just an all out agressive onslaught... He showed alot of maturity in that fight... and eventually got the stoppage

Maybe so, in a division so loaded with talent it is definitely possible for Berto come up short against some of the top guys. On the other hand I think he is ahead of Gatti and at least on just about the same level as Cintron. I"m not trying to crown this guy the next king of the ring or anything, I'm just saying his potential excites me.

Re: Welterweights Beware: Andre Berto is for Real!
Berto is a great combo of speed and power, he is destined for the top of the division if you ask me. Once he strats wrecking some better opposition you will see the skills. The boys good...I wish that the last fight with Tackie actually happened, that would have been a better fight to gauge his skill.

Not JT when I sit on the toilet it is you I think of...And when I am done it is you I flush away..... :'(
Now on to business.....I really don't think much of him...When a fighter is brought along to carefully I question it...IMO there is something his camp and promoters know we don't...Same for as when a fighter is built up...IMO his promotion team and camp know something we don't and want to do their best to maximize the earning potential before it is exposed.....

He's been a pro for just over 2 years... He has 17 fights, don't really see what's so out of the ordinary in terms of how he's being brought up ??? Tons of great fighters, probably most, didn't have any signifigant bouts before they had 20+ fights under their belt.. Just don't see why you think he's being brought up so carefully.. Tackie would have been quite a good step up for the kid and it only fell through because Tackie pulled out..
-
Re: Welterweights Beware: Andre Berto is for Real!
I'd like to see Berto score a fight with Carlos Quintana, Oktay Urkal or Joshua Clottey. Neither fighter has enough power to knock him out yet either of them would be the best comp he's been in with. A win like that would be beneficial to Berto's rep and his standing within the division. Go the Miguel Cotto route, fight your Urkal's and Quintana's in order to gain recognition and a title shot without risking it all against a Margarito or Cintron, a guy who could leave you lying flat on your back. Somewhere around 20-0 to 23-0, provided that all goes well, I'd hope to see him challenging all of the top five welters. Aside from lacking a big name win I haven't seen any reason not to get behind this kid.

I feel the same way about a lot of fighters who are coming up and have not proven themself but seem to be good prospects....And I did say why I felt that way...read my post again

Re: Welterweights Beware: Andre Berto is for Real!
What do you guys figure to be Berto's biggest weakness? How many guys who are current welters do you think would beat him or be able to expose some weaknesses in his game? I know it is a small sample size but I don't think anyone in the division (unless Mayweather returns) could dominate him, there may be a few top guys that could beat him but I think he would be a difficult task for any opponent. Quick and strong is a good combo.

I like Berto's skills & the guy is exciting to watch.
I heard his chin had let him down a few times in the amateurs, anyone know anything about that?

Re: Welterweights Beware: Andre Berto is for Real!
I've read so much on him and can never find a straight answer as to what his amatuer record actually was. Some places I read over 200 amatuer bout with the majority being wins. I don't know what the hell that's supposed to mean. If anybody knows that answer I'd love to hear it.

I think it was something like 250 - 15.

In a year from now or less he will have a world title, I bet.

Re: Welterweights Beware: Andre Berto is for Real!
Definitely an exciting fast moving prospect but I'm not so sure if I'm sold on him ett. He still looks like a prospect that's for sure, he's a whiles away from a title imo. I watch him and obviously tremendous all around speed and explosive power. Nice combinations and fairly good reflexes but he still as a couple things he has to work on. First being that wide stance of his, he keeps his legs very wide apart and his right at his back shoulder. He looks open for a left hook, especially a counter left hook because he's not the most accurate with the left.
But he is definitely a fun fighter to watch. And a leading prospect but everyone needs to chill on him a little bit. The people who are calling for him to get a title shot anyways.

Re: Welterweights Beware: Andre Berto is for Real!
This guy reminds me of Mike Tyson in intimidation power.

Re: Welterweights Beware: Andre Berto is for Real!
I think that he is pretty close to challenging any welter other than Mayweather and Mosley...b/c none of the other welters look that impressive.

No other welterweights look good? What? The welterweight division is about as deep as it has been since the 40's.
Margarito, Williams, COTTO (are you kidding me?), Judah, Hatton are just a few who would hammer Berto right now imo. I'm a fan of the guy and all but take it slow, right now he looks really green.
-
Re: Welterweights Beware: Andre Berto is for Real!
Margo-The guy swings wide and throws off balance and who has he beaten?Williams is an athelete who throws a lot of sloppy punches.Cotto is being advertised as this KO machine, and in his last 2 fights he hasnt been impressive. His body shots had little effect on Urkal and Paulie.Zab is a 4 round fighter, and when he gets tagged he gets frustrated.Hatton looked extra sloppy in his last fight...and he was out of shape. This isnt impressive.
-
Re: Welterweights Beware: Andre Berto is for Real!
Cotto wasn't impressive against Quintana? His punches didn't affect Paulie? HE BROKE HIS JAW.
The thing is, regardless of how you feel about the division, Berto is just green right now. That's not bad, he's only been pro for two years and he himself says he needs to take things slow. He isn't ready for any of those guys yet.
-
Re: Welterweights Beware: Andre Berto is for Real!
I didnt watch the Quintana fight...and he didnt break Paulies jaw...http://www.northjersey.com/page.php?...Y3dnFlZUVFeXk5
Me personally...I'd like to see Berto vs Margo or Williams.
-
Re: Welterweights Beware: Andre Berto is for Real!
Well you should watch the Quintana fight. Honestly he looked really good that bout. I didn't know that about Paulie, I thought that's why he took such a long layoff. Either way he got beat up.
Slow down on Berto, you may not think highly of those guys but both are lengthy punchers who have good straight crosses and Margarito has a real good left hook. Something Berto is open for with that wide stance of his. Maybe a year from now when he gets some more rounds under his bout he can start looking at those guys but right now I think it would spell bad.

That he always leads jab jab straight cross? Thats the only weakness I see but we can't see a weakness against his competition so far.
