BOXING'S MOST OVERRATED & UNDERRATED STARS
Just reading my latest world boxing magazine and theirs a piece on boxing's most overrated & underrated stars
OVERRATED UNDERRATED
Shannon Briggs Ruslan Chagaev
O'Neil Bell Clinton Woods
Peter Manfredo Jr. Mikkel Kessler
Jermain Taylor Sakio Bika
John Duddy Roman Karmazin
Antonio Margarito Sergei Dzinziruk
Ricky Hatton Junior Witter
Diego Corrales Joel Cassamayor
Edwin Valero Steve Molitor
Irene Pacheco Vic Darchinyan
as i was reading the names i had to agree and it said about Ricky Hatton that he's fighting worn out Castillo next a superfight it ain't and he should be fighting Junior Witter or moving back up to welter and fight Mayweather,Cotto or Mosely something i've been saying for a while good to see a sports writer agreeing with me Mr Gavin Evans must be to do with us having the same first name

Re: BOXING'S MOST OVERRATED & UNDERRATED STARS
They'll be some PREDICTABLE posts once the usual suspects get a whiff of this.
I think some of the guys that took part in The Contender are underrated.
I think I underrate Carl Froch too. Got a feeling he might pull of an upset when the time arrives ;)

Re: BOXING'S MOST OVERRATED & UNDERRATED STARS
I disagree with the Jermain Taylor pick. He is not even in the top 5 P4P and he has hung in their with Winky Wright and Bernard Hopkins which are the sports best and did not lose to either of them, little harsh, I due on the other hand agree 100% with Margarito.

We should pin a thread of those arguments so we don't keep taking up space repeating them.

Was about to post the exact same thing on the exact two fighters.
Thanks for saving me typing time.

Re: BOXING'S MOST OVERRATED & UNDERRATED STARS
Does Gavin ever do Reviews/ Previews?
Every thing is a rave and a rant with him ::**
Just for the record I HATE Gavin Evans ;)
Id be interested to read his supporting article though... This 'list' shows signs of him, once again, getting his wires crossed.

Re: BOXING'S MOST OVERRATED & UNDERRATED STARS
What is he on calling Vic underrated? Completely overrated the guy is the wierdest looking fighter I have ever seen he has his elbow out like he's going to swing a baseball bat, I can't even describe it. And he chases people around the ring people who are absolutely no match for him and just welt under pressure and relentlessness alone. Put him in the ring with a top guy and he gets destroyed.
-
Re: BOXING'S MOST OVERRATED & UNDERRATED STARS
And calling Kessler underated when he is one of the most talked about boxers as of now...?
Well, i guess he's a god amongs men in Gavins Evans eyes ::**
Im sorry... I really do hate that guy! :-\

Yeah... Darchinyan looks like something from Lord Of The Rings when he stalks his opponent.  Very unhuman.
If they dimmed the lights his opponent would prob scream and run back to the dressing room.

I think i like the look of them lists with a few exceptions
Jermain Taylor looked a bit lackluster in his last fight .As for Hatton fighting Witter who cares but Witter and both his fans i was in the pub for his last defnce didnt even glance at the screen and im HARDCORE BABY .
Witter sucks a*** so consistently i wish he would go and live in a muddy ditch and keep his stupid lord of the prance queen of the phony war mouth shut .
Witter is a no good ........its even more boring writing about him than watching him .

Re: BOXING'S MOST OVERRATED & UNDERRATED STARS
i disagree with j.t being overatted, he has gone 24 rounds with bhop and 12 with winky two of the best fighters no one can look good against but j.t didn't lose to either. can any other fighter go 24 with bhop and 12 with winky and still be undefeated? i think not.

hahahahah good one. . ;D However, I will not judge him till I see him fight someone of note. He has been calling out good fighters. Once a good fight happens, we will then see if he can walk the talk.

Yeah he is but that's pretty much his or his camps fault. What was behind the inactivity after he beat Juarez? Looking at his boxrec I guess he fought enough, but all the fights were in Mexico against well basically unknowns. He was mentioned as a potential matchup for basically everyone after the Juarez fight, faded into obscurity for a year until he faced a guy who wasn't in his league in Valle on the Rahman fight and then looked fantastic against Toledo. Now he's facing Bobby Pacquiao which is a nice enough fight I do suppose but he could have done good capitalizing on the victory over Rocky and he didn't.
I like Soto, crisp jab and an awkward style but he really let that win slip away.

Not really sure what you mean mate but I'll have a bash. None of those guys are big stars, hence they are largely ignored. That isnt the same as being underated. Everyone knows how good they are, or not as the case may be, its just that people dont care enough about them to say otherwise.
Kessler on an underated list? Puhlease

Re: BOXING'S MOST OVERRATED & UNDERRATED STARS
Obviously i started this topic but the lists were by Gavin Evans not me surely if he did'nt know what he was talking about it would'nt have been published and he would'nt have sucessfull books

I always though he was a bit odd myself...Not the awkward style like that of Sam Soliman that confuses a guy yet he is n control but just wakward as in he can't adjust to anything...I don't know I could be wrong but...IMO you are right a top tier guy would figure him out and dispose of him asap

Come on Daxx, he is clearly overrated.
He did not win 12 Golden gloves titles in a glittering amateur career culminating in an Olympic gold al light-heavy.
He did not streak through the pro ranks, single handedly raising the sport to the common man in the street.
He did not change the stereotype of a fighter
He did not defeat the fearsome Sonny LIston (one of the scariest fighters to ever enter the ring)
He did not produce the 'perfect' performance against Cleveland Williams
He did not become involved in social politics instead of counting his millions
He did not give up his title rather than sacrificing his personal beliefs
He did not sell out while trying to survive without a licence for 3 years
He did not fight ranked contenders immediately, rather than a succession of no-hopers
He did not jump into the ring with the great Joe Frazier after only 3 warm up bouts, and display great courage at the first time of asking
He did not fight 10 rounds with a broken jaw against Ken Norton, only losing a split decision
He did not become the most recognisable face on the planet
He did not defeat the terrifying George Foreman in his prime
He did not open the door to today's multimillion dollar purses
He did not make 21 defences of the world heavyweight title
He did not thrill the world with his displays of skill and nerve against the most fearsome collection of talent in history
He did not sacrifice his health in the pursuit of greatness, showing scary ego and pride
He did not accept defeats with grace and humour
He did not gain the love and devotion of millions of people for beng the best boxer on earth, ducking nobody
He did not gain the love and devotion of millions more people for reasons unconnected with boxing
He did not temper his radical religious beliefs to convert to secular islam
He did not go to Iraq and bring back some hostages
He did not end up giving most of his money away and being the most approachable heavyweight champ in history
He did not then devote his time to setting up and running a charitable trust
He did not accept his health issues with courage and grace, just as he conducted himself in the ring.
Come on Daxx, don't you know anything?
;)

Re: BOXING'S MOST OVERRATED & UNDERRATED STARS
Who is overrating Duddy, all I ever hear is that he sucks..overrated by who? His fanbase? Some people just get jealous that people can draw a crowd, the guy has 19 fights and is taking it slowly. I guess he should have unified the division by 19 fights... He is fighting another no-name (Elvin Ayala?)then going to europe to try for a title in Ireland. Just because he has a huge fan base doesnt mean hes overrated.
