Never known so little interest for a Calzaghe fight............
Only a couple of weeks away and not seen ONE single tv advert for this (Any in the US yet?) fight anywhere :o
Yeah the tickets for the Millenium Stadium are selling well but there really is a huge national lack of interest about this fight imo.
The blame must firmly lay with Warren and Calzaghe for taking this (One can't do it without the other) fight and i'll even go so far as to say i feel more than a little embarresed that they have.
I remember the days of Benn,Eubank and Bruno when they had title fights the whole country knew about them and it really was the talk of the land.
Piss poor offering from all involved really and if your gonna try and 'Polish a turd' at least advertise it...

Re: Never known so little interest for a Calzaghe fight............
I think it all went wrong when ITV4 screened that hour long arse licking of The Welsh Dragon.
The casual fans that watched that, then watched the Bika fight that followed probably wont be watching him again. ::**
"Points of View" probably got a few "Calslappy" letters sent their way after the fight ;D

Re: Never known so little interest for a Calzaghe fight............
Boxing matches don't get advertised here all that often. I haven't even seen HBO advertise this one, though. They're all about The World Awaits now and they're advertising the advertisements that are upcoming.

Re: Never known so little interest for a Calzaghe fight............
So it's the same across the pond then? ???
-
Re: Never known so little interest for a Calzaghe fight............
Yeah all I've seen on HBO is "Coming soon previews and Commercials for the world awaits"
Although on the HBO boxing page
http://www.hbo.com/boxing/?ntrack_pa...ategory5_show0
Calzaghe is the cover story.
interesting side note, the forum to discuss this fight on there, looks much like the threads on here.

Re: Never known so little interest for a Calzaghe fight............
It's a week early for all the hoopla, isn't it, plus we've had the football all this week...But even the casual fan must realise they're shit fights
Joe Calzaghe (1/33) vs Peter "sacrificil lamb" Manfredo (12/1)
Amir Khan (1/100) vs Steffy "Retired" Bull (16/1)
Enzo Maccarinelli (1/50) vs Hillbilly "gonna last 90 secs" Gunn (12/1)

He tried with Hopkins ;)
I dont think he's ever been bothered about fighting in the States. If it's not necessary and not something you WANT to do, why bother?
Plus old FW is pretty adamant that fighting in the States aint important anymore.

Re: Never known so little interest for a Calzaghe fight............
HBO has plugged this shit several times over...just like they do with all their matches.
Thing is...& this is a tuffy for me...I have no interest in the match...none. Honestly...I aint sure I'm even covering the match.
I despise Manfredo. Really...he brings nothing to the table...unless he shocks the world... ::**

Re: Never known so little interest for a Calzaghe fight............
I will be watching this because there always could be upset its very very unlikely and i don't want it to happen but i will just watch it because im boxing fan and its new fight to watch but really its not opponent who i wanted Calzaghe to fight but i hope he wins for one reason so we can see Kessler vs Calzaghe i really don't understand this fight though because its lose lose situation for Calzaghe because if Manfredo even wins 3 rounds thats going to make Calzaghe look very bad lets hope Calzaghe can put on good performance which he should then they can line up big showdown with Kessler.

Re: Never known so little interest for a Calzaghe fight............
Only a first round KO will make it worthwhile for me. I will watch it, but as soon as it goes beyond the third I will be in the kitchen brewing a cup of tea whilst preparing my lunchtime Sheperd's Pie! ;)

Agreed...but honestly...this will make the first historical event for ole' Wacko...seriously...I have no interest in even watchin the fight.
Wouldn't it be some shit if it were a first round TKO in Manfredo's favor?
He'd done shooked up the world!!! :P

Re: Never known so little interest for a Calzaghe fight............
We'll all be watching ;)..This is boxing and anything can happen :)

Its always a possibility. After all I did today read an account of a man who swore to officials how he entered a flying saucer and after a lovely conversation with the inhabitants realised that it was them who wanted to be observed and not vice versa....
Sure Manfredo has a chance. There is always the possibility, no matter how minute! ;D

I won't be, I'd rather go play some pool, than watch this. If Manfredo pulls off an upset I'll watch it on youtube. I refuse to have my TV logged as watching this. Calzaghe can continue to fight mediocre competition as long as people buy tickets and watch.

Re: Never known so little interest for a Calzaghe fight............
Boxing has been dying for a long time, ofcourse..

It's the friggin promoters, and the boxers that are getting paid WAY too much money, it takes the hunger out of them.

Re: Never known so little interest for a Calzaghe fight............
I just a commercial for it on HBO but I was surfing through the channel guide and the screen was little. It wasn't much to it...
-
Re: Never known so little interest for a Calzaghe fight............
If Manfredo by accident KO Calzaghe should we then push for Manfredo-Kessler
Nah Calzaghe will take the little dwarf American out , and cash in the £.
I guess Calzaghe has notice all the fuzz about this match up, if he cares about his reputation in the end, wouldn't´t he fight Kessler next then ?
As I can see even his own fans want this fight ;D. The admin at joecalzaghe even wrote a letter to the rude Kessler fans ( well including me, I was a bit rude at the start even been called Royal ::**, whom apparently made a poor impression here) stated that Kessler had to prove himself first.
I think Kessler has proven himself now so maybe there is enough money involved to make the fight happen and since HBO has taken a shine to Kessler as well I guess the odds have gone up.
Until then I see Kessler going down under to take on an improved Mundine, or maybe Mundine is giong to Denmark since Kessler now can sell 25000 seats or more in his home turf.

Re: Never known so little interest for a Calzaghe fight............
doesn't deserve to be mentioned, joe one day may get the guts to fight a top fighter again which will get all the publicity it needs.......................i hope manfredo beats him and ends this cowards run as champ

Re: Never known so little interest for a Calzaghe fight............
The two biggest names in boxing (apart from Audley Harrison) are Amir Khan and Peter Manfredo.

Guess Calzaghe's next two fights after Manfredo (if he doesn't hang up the gloves before that) will be Khan and Harrison then.
I Though for a while Mora was a likely choice - but this would make more sense.
-
Re: Never known so little interest for a Calzaghe fight............
i'll defo be watching (even thought this is a fight that shouldnt even be happening). as much as joe pisses me off with excuse after excuse and the best fights not happening, he is still awesome to watch. he'll stop manfredo and move on to bigger and better things.

Manfredo vs Kessler.
HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!
That was the funniest thing I have read today.

Re: Never known so little interest for a Calzaghe fight............
I want to see Calzaghe play with him, and knock him out. That'd be cool. But not in a showboating way, as that would be too wankerish.
-
Re: Never known so little interest for a Calzaghe fight............
I reckon that after Manfredo KOs Joe, he will be in line to fight Wlad and then unify the heavyweights. ;)
