Is it on telly tonight
no, i think it starts next week then one show a week, i think
Damn Walter....he tries to wait too long for counters..every fight he takes his damn sweet time like he thinks the judges owe him points for just being in the ring.C'mon K-9, I'm counting on you!!
Where are you getting the results from? Any news on the Reid fight yet?
Boxrec has some of the fights results, I think its still going on atm. If you look under the date option, it has results for all of todays fights around the world.Dont ever go on there if you want to watch a international fight later in the day...well in America at least.
If you mean Robin Reid, his fight aint supposed to be starting till 00.15 am
Thanks Ross cc
Yeah thanks for the info ross :coolclick:
I was this was live cos Id rather just watch the fight to find out but I know theres no way I can avoid seeing the result till itv decide to show it and probably ruin it with all their editing. I hope Reid can win this in style though, it'd be interesting to see how much hes got left.
Alfredo Gomez just wan in the seventh and yeah, I love Reid as a fighter, hopefully he puts on a good show, gets another warm up and either gets Froch, Calzaghe or Kessler, all three are genuine possibilitys as opponents.
If Reid can rediscover soem old form, hed still give Joe trouble, with Frochs slow pace Reid has a chance there and Kessler hasnt really fought a technicly good boxer yet
UK 1
USA 2
Nigel Wright TKO 3 Jonathan Nelson
Paul Smith TKO 7 Jonathan Reid
Only last 6 fights counts.
Anthony Small UD 8 Walter Wright
Freddy Curiel KO 8 Ross Minter
Alfonso Gomez WINS 7TH ROUND TKO!!!
To be honest I dont see him beating any of those three but he has talked about one more big fight before calling it a day and I would like to see him in with Calzaghe again. As I say I see him losing any of those big fights but I reckon there would be more interest in seeing him in with Joe again as they've already got that rivalry there - a slight glimpse back to the days of Eubank and Benn, its definately something Calzaghe needs and would be a good way for Reid to go out.Quote:

Reid beating Brinkley is about as big a certainty in boxing as you could ever get. Honestly if I had a mortgage I'd put it all on him to win and be more worried about Jesus Christ returning for judegment day tomorrow than I would of Brinkley actually pulling this one off.
Just stick all you have on Reid to win and go to bed. You can sleep easily knowing that unless an asteroid hits the earth during the night or the sun suddenly disappears you will wake up tomorrow and be able to collect your winnings ;)
Anybody that watched the Gomez-Concepcion fight was pretty even or close coming into the 7th rd?
Are you getting coverage of this live in the states Mick? We got to wait weeks for this BS, on some random digital channel with no advertising whatsoever.Quote:

I didnt know what to expect against Magee because I followed his career and was dissapointed in his performances against Malinga and Branco and against Magee but against magee, even when he was dissinterested he showed more power than Froch, he dropped Brian 4 times.
He has the tools to beat any of those 3, a good chin (hopefully Lacy was a blip, he did go down for the first time in his career but it was an ilegal shot while he was talking to the ref and then his punch resistance was quite obviously gone for the fight!) and a decent punch, he just has to prove himself tonight and so on
I'm suppose to be working (I'm at work :( )Quote:

Nigel Wright TKO 2 Jonathan Nelson

You got it right Mick. Wright's gu was a last minute sub and apparently they just don't think much of Reid. It was agreed upon by both sides that just the last 6 fights count.
Robin wan on points ;D
Thanks for the news ross....Quote:

OVERALL USA WON 4-2 AS THE FIRST TWO FIGHTS (BOTH WINS FOR UK) WERE NOT COUNTED IN THE CUP FOR SOME REASON.
FEW SURPRISES ESPECIALLY FREDDY CURIEL WINNING (AND BY KO) ALSO WALTER WRIGHT LOSING.
What do you think about the results?
So you know I merged your topic with this one that was already done earlier (don't worry you did nothing wrong, incase your wonderig) it's just sometimes we get 4 threads/topics that are the same thing so we merge/put them together... ;)Quote:

As for the fights I didnt' get a chance to see them live but I will see them hopefully tommorrow.... :)
Well the first two were not counted just because they were huge miismatches. Well the Reid one might not have been at least on paper but it would have made no difference.
RESULTS!
USA Contenders defeat UK Team!
FINAL SCORE: USA 4, UK 2
The USA team of fighters comprised mostly of participants from the boxing reality show "The Contender" won the first transatlantic "Contender Challenge" by a score of 4-2 against a team of UK fighters on Friday night in Newcastle, England.
The match was decided when former WBC super middleweight champion
Robin Reid (39-5-1, 27 KOs) won an eight round unanimous decision over
USA Contender
Jesse Brinkley (26-5, 17 KOs).
Scores were 78-75, 78-76, 78-74 for Reid.
However, the USA team clinched the tournament at that point via the tiebreaker: having scored two knockouts in their three wins to that point, compared to no early stops by the UK team. USA jr middleweight
Cornelius Bunderage (26-2, 15 KOs) made it all academic as he stopped the UK's
Colin McNeil (11-2) in round seven of the final match.
Earlier, super middleweight
Jerson Ravelo (18-2, 12 KOs) ensured the USA team of at least a draw with a one-sided unanimous decision over
Paul Buchanan (8-1-1).
Scores were 80-71, 79-73, 79-72.
USA fighter Alfonso Gomez (16-3-2, 7 KOs) scored a seventh round TKO over the
Martin Concepcion (11-4, 8 KOs).
The USA's Freddy Curiel (17-6-2, 7 KOs)
scored a stunning eighth round knockout over UK fighter
Ross Minter (17-2-1, 8 KOs)
to win a bout he was trailing
and UK middleweight
Anthony Small (17-0, 11 KOs) won a split decision over the USA's
Walter Wright (13-2).
Scores were 77-75, 78-74 for Small on two cards.
Wright prevailed 77-76 on the third card.
It was decided that two bouts would not count toward the final results in the USA-UK Contender match.
In those bouts jr welterweight
Nigel Wright (18-2, 9 KOs) crushed late sub
Jonathan Nelson (16-16) in two rounds.
Also, middleweight
Paul Smith (20-0, 12 KOs) scored a controversial stoppage of Contender: Season One's
Jonathan Reid (34-6) in round seven.
Reid was dropped early in the round but seemed to be recovered when the bout was surprisingly waved off by referee Victor Loughlin at 1:21 of the round.
