How Would Gerald McClellan do today?
Everyone knows I'm a huge G-man fan, despite whatever speculation about his out of ring life, I think the world of his ability and power freakish aggressiveness.. Tragedy aside, I feel that the G-man would dominate this era quite easily.... His Boxing ability and speed were vastly underrated and overshadowed by his bludgeoning power..
MIDDLEWEIGHT
Jermain Taylor- with Taylors propensity to back into corners and the ropes would spell his demise, Gerald knocks him in to tomorrow
Winky Wright- to small and not enough fire power to keep McClellan off of him.. those helacious punches would find there way through the guard
Bernard Hopkins- This one would be interesting due to Hopkins defense and toughness, Hopkins had good power himself, this one would probably be the closest.
Edison Miranda- this one would mirror his fights with Julian Jackson
Arthur Abraham- just plain gets murdered
Felix Strum, Kelly Pavlik, Javier Castillejo all wouldn't make it out of the 3rd round
What are your guys thoughts?
-
Re: How Would Gerald McClellan do today?
I agree with pretty much everything you said,
Winky really wouldn't be able to deflect every G-FORCE ( ! ) punch , some would sneak through and knock him down.
Hopkins would be the tricky one, he has the footwork and craftiness to negate Geralds power and frustrate him possibly.
-
Re: How Would Gerald McClellan do today?
CC JT,I really liked Mclennan as a boxer, great fighter. I could not believe he blew Jackson out like that and I agree with your analysis too.He would annihilate most of the guys there right now.
-
Re: How Would Gerald McClellan do today?
Gerald would be something special in this middleweight division

CC# 1500  Alright!! El Gamo.....
I agree man the sh*t! he did to JJ was insane..... JJ knockouts are some of the best all time and he surely is IMO underrated to some extent.....
As for how he would do today forget it, the only one I see giving him trouble would be B-Hop.....

Re: How Would Gerald McClellan do today?

Re: How Would Gerald McClellan do today?
:coolclick: # 1502 and 1324 respectively to the 2 of you Roberto and Gamo
I was thinking SUPERMIDDLEWEIGHT
Joe Calzaghe- Joe has the workrate and elusiveness and ability to show angles, I still think Gerald can take him by round 6
Mikkel Kessler- I feel the same what the outcome as I do with the Calzaghe fight
Anthony Mundine- Gone by round 3
Carl Froch- Unless he learns to keep his hands up he aint gonna last 2 long I'll say 1st round KO
Jeff Lacy - Same as Miranda
Allan Green- Gets chased all over the arena through the crowd WWE style until G-man KO's him in the Locker room :biglaugh:
Not trying to be a fanboy but if someone see any of these guys winning please elaborate, I just cant see it happening

Nice thread Jt first have :coolclick: for the effort secondly i do agree Gerald had iron chin great heart and way he just come right out was damn frightening i find it hard for any of middleweights to beat him today Wright's defensive style would do him no good Gerald would just punch his arms off with his devastating power and i agree with Hopkins doing the best.

Winky Wright would block many of Gerald's punches, seriously if you got G-Man past the 5th round he'd tire.
And Winky has a solid defense and some of Geralds best shots were looping shots and shots from the outside, do you think for one moment he'd catch Winky with one? And even if he caught him with the one and stunned him he wouldn't catch him with the other,
Winky could outbox Gerald. So could Hopkins. I agree with everything else you said.

Re: How Would Gerald McClellan do today?
Taylor lumped up Winky bad with "Glove Shots" McClellan throws some straight shots bro.. McClellan smokes Winky

Tayloe has better technique then Gerald. Not better power :) I aint fond of Taylor but his technique(at least in that fight) is better then Gerald's. Gerald had more power a better chin and greater athleticism. But in terms of form and technique Taylor has it over him(as in fundamentals throwing shots etc)
Gerald just had a crazy style ;D Fun to watch but crazy ;D Winky wouldn't get hit as much as he did with Taylor because for one, Gerald wouldn't be trying to box and forcing Winky to come toward him, Winky would be on the back step all night and he would frustrate Gerald and outbox him.

I really disagree with you there.... No way Jermain Taylor is a better Boxer than Gerald McClellan, Winky was having all sorts of trouble with Taylors power and it isin't even a fraction of what McClellan... Also stamina isint an issue winging leather all nite with Nigel Benn and then collapsing from brain trauma in round 10 aint telling me anything substanital about Gerald tiring after 5 rounds especially after he dropped Nigel in round 8 ;)
-
Re: How Would Gerald McClellan do today?
I didn't say Jermain was a better boxer I said he had better "technique"
-
Re: How Would Gerald McClellan do today?
I dont know bro.. I have seen them both especially Jermain obviously since he is active, and his technique is nothing to write home about, his athleticism has kept him in the fights with Hopkins and Winky, I thought he looked really bad against Ouma and I know Spinks will give him all sorts of problems.. I am starting to get confident enough to do a signature bet with you over Taylor vs Spinks ;) ;D

Re: How Would Gerald McClellan do today?
I'm with you man, I think the G-Man would thrive today. I think Mcclellan could have gone down as one of the greats, I think he had a lot more time to grow and expand moreso as a fighter if not for the injury. Can you imagine how boxing history might have been altered if he won the Benn fight and fought Roy Jones? A guy like Mcclellan would be a huge threat to Jones IMO and it would be great to see them rematched in the pros. It's a damn shame what happened to the G-Man, he was probably one of the most vicious punchers I've ever seen. A real waste

Nigel Benn was quite wise to not get in the ring with James Toney who Roy had the gull to fight in his FIRST fight at Super Middleweight :)
-
Re: How Would Gerald McClellan do today?
Benn was a tough customer for anyone, but I think Jones would have outclassed him with his foot movement and his quick combos. I'm a huge fan of Nigel's and I respect him for having the heart of a lion and being one of the most exciting fighters around, but I think he would have been outclassed by Jones or Toney.

Re: How Would Gerald McClellan do today?
McClellan would do very well today at 160 and even 168.
I think McClellan-Calzaghe is interesting to ponder as is McClellan-Hopkins, McClellan-RJJ, McClellan-any young guys at 160.
I think he would just THUMP Miranda, he'd destroy Green, he'd whup Abraham.....he'd beat Jermain Taylor IF JT is as high strung as usual for such big fights.

Spinks won't give him the problems of Ouma. Ouma's entire styel and gameplan is getting inside and throwing lots of punches. Taylor likes to fight at distance. Thats why Ouma could do that.
On the other hand Spinks likes to fight at a distance, Taylor likes to fight at a distance...
What do you think's going to happen? ;)
-
Re: How Would Gerald McClellan do today?
....also Spinks doesn't have that great of a chin. I think JT might just crack him and put him out.
HOWEVER the jab of JT is the bread and butter of his offense if he uses it successfully he'll win easy. Spinks is crafty though
-
Re: How Would Gerald McClellan do today?
Gerald was a physical beast. Remember, Benn was one tough SOB...and Gerald knocked him out of the ring early on...and i still believe that if the ref wasn't such a moron, the tragic outcome of that fight would never have happened. He would have given anyone problems. I only wish him and Roy got a chance to face each other...that would have been worth the hype.

I totaly afree with everything you said...Though Hopkins might be slick enough to win a decision...Though it depends on the night...Yes G-Man would send all these guys in both the Middle and Super middleweight divisions home with their tail between their leg's and thoughts of a new profession

Re: How Would Gerald McClellan do today?
JT Rock im actually quite annoyed at your iggnorance !!
Once again you've proven yourself completely biased and downright stup...!!!
Gerald McClelland was found out badly in a boxing ring by Nigel Benn it was a horrific fight and a sad end to A PROMISING CAREER.
Thats all it was A PROMISING CAREER
G-man was a good fighter but a bully he couldnt take what he gave from the 5th round onwards in the Benn fight he was looking for a place to hide yes he had the power and still nearly got Benn out of there in round 7 but the truth is and the stark reality in REAL TIME is he got beaten and beaten badly !!
What people forget was it wasnt even a prime Nigel Benn !! It was the same Nigel Benn who had struggled massively with Henry Wharton and Mauro Galvano and Laboured against Eubank !!!
I regret what happened to G-Man i really do but truth is he didnt have the substance in the end ,to compare him to a long reiging champion like Calzaghe or Kessler men who endured and overcame is a complete insult to both .
Calzaghe knocked out in 6 ?
You do talk some real shit !!!
Gerald McClelland aside from Julian Jackson fought absolute shit at Middleweight and did'nt have any resistance at Suppermiddleweight .
Dont talk about what might have been or what could have happened talk about what happened in a boxing ring for the supermiddleweight title .

Another Spastic Mentalist Rant !!!

Is that what your saying ? Otherwise be quiet you stupid boy !!
McClelland was overated .
No whatifs , no what might have beens , no what could have beens.
Please back up what you say you tried digging me out on another thread and didnt have the bllks to back it up so Daxx shut up and go back to watching UFC and WWE and fantisising about whatever you do during the course of your utterly pointless exsistance .

Re: How Would Gerald McClellan do today?
Apart from Benn who he lost to and Jackson who was past his best, had bad eyes and was little more than a boxer who relyed totaly on his power.
Who has he beaten???

He did knock Mugabi out in the first round, look at his record, he has alot of first round k.o.'s You cant say he didnt want the fights he just never got the chance to get them. The Benn fight is b.s. to me....I think that ref saved Benn too many times...he got in the way 2 times when McClellan was going in for the kill...and he didnt make it back into the ring if you ask me. Oh, and Benn was holdoing and hitting him in the back of the head all night...Benn was dirty that night.
