ODLHs Record

I was just looking at his record and what impresses me the most is that he never fought a bum. Never even fought a guy with a losing record. Everyone of them was a good to great fighter. Most fighters that moved up in the pros that fast eventually get schooled by a veteran even with the amateur experience a lot of fighters have trouble adjusting. But Oscar was able to move right along and beat ranked fighters when his career was just starting. He may have 4 losses but i don't think there is any other fighter in history who could've taken Oscars path and had the same success without getting derailed early on.

Sounds like some serious nuthugging for Oscar there, but he is a great hate him or love him. His resume is the best in the business, but he needs to come up big in a mega fight, and that's something he has never done before (Vargas, Mayorga don't count).

name me another Lightweight that could hang with Hopkins at 160 shiat!! Oscar was even winning on 1 score card!! I know he got stopped but he certainly wasn't getting beatup or schooled!!

It was still early in the fight mate, the schooling was ready to begin but we got cut short, either way Oscar did steal a couple rounds. 130 hanging with Hopkins? There have been a couple in history but none present day, I dont actually count getting knocked out as hanging in there.

i agree. i've always been impressed with oscars record no matter how controversial some of his wins or losses might be.

I agree . Oscars record is very impressive and it would be a fitting end to a great career if he were to beat Floyd .

Chavez 1&2- First time Chavez was no match for Oscar . In the return Oscar beat him at his own game and made the great warrior quit
Whiticker - Close fight but Oscar was moving up from 130 to beat an all time great
Quartey - He got off the floor to win another close battle and almost stopped Ike in the last round
Tito - I scored it 1 round to Tito but many thought Oscar skooled him.
Mosley 1&2 - First time Oscar was outspeeded , but he was much better in the return . I think he had the beating of Shane at 154 but he threw it away late on
Vargas - One of Oscars finest wins over a rival
Hopkins - He put up a good fight but 5 divisions above his natural he just wasnt big enough
Mayorga - Vintage De La Hoya , as good as ever against an opponent that suited his style

People compare Oscar to Leonard but in their biggest fights (Duran - Mosley, lightweights ) ( Hearns - Tito , welterweights ) and ( Hagler - Hopkins , middleweights ) Leonard won all his superfights and Oscar lost them all.

Because Vargas was shot by then, he was even knocked down against a journeyman in one fight, his camp had to have a meeting with him after the fight too see if he was still committed into becoming a champion again, he was not the same fighter after Tito.

I agree with all of that apart from Oscar being 5 divisions above his natural weight. His natural weight prime was probably welterweight. He started off in the light divisions beating up on smaller men. No way he could make even 147 now .

It would be like saying Amir Khan is a natural lightweight because that is his weight now. In a couple years time he will be at 140, then 147 once he's fully grown. His prime will be at 147 no doubt, same as Oscar

One thing can be said about DLH...Love him or Hate him he has always actively sought out the top guy's win or lose...He wants to fight nothing but the best..

One thing I always gave him credit for and something I don't think anyone can take away from him...Unlike many fighters in the past that claim they want the best and call out the best but never follow up on it

good topic, I have always had respect for DLH, I do not think any of today's top fighters have fought as many contenders and champions as he has.

his 3 of his losses wan't blowout in thought he beat tito & mosely in 2 fight

DLH to his credit has fought the best and yep lost a few along the way. Tito and the second Mosley fight he was hard done by. The only one he missed along the way was probably Tszyu. Nobody can knock his record and who he has fought. Win, lose or draw against PBF his legacy in the sport is assured.
I can't see the point in him continuing if he beats PBF unless he gets Winky at 154 and i don't think that is likely.

" natural " weight is debatable . Lets say 5 divisions above hsi starting weight . I agree he was probably at his best at welterweight . He still had his speed and power . Slowed down abit at 154 and middleweight was one weight class too far .

he was not nicknamed golden boy for nothing.

And about the 4 losses should be 3 and 1 even (he won against both tito and shane in the rematch but lost to whitaker, the sturm fight imo should have been a draw)
