Re: Calzaghe damaged his left hand
Must have really bad hands as he hardly landed any hard shots at all.
-
Re: Calzaghe damaged his left hand
Oh what a surprise yet another injury on verge of big fight happening Inkin is fighting Froch jeez Calzaghe just fight a big name and stop fighting crap and mediocre opponents.
-
Re: Calzaghe damaged his left hand
Inkin dont want Froch ;)
He wants Joe.
His team have confirmed as much too.
-
Re: Calzaghe damaged his left hand

It's joke though isn't it at 35 and all these defenses not one great name on his record he could fight Kessler all they have to do is make it for September but no thats to hard for Warren who imo talks the talk but never actually walks the walk in making these big fights.

Re: Calzaghe damaged his left hand
Not really a surprise, Joe's a great fighter but he has Candy-cane hands

Re: Calzaghe damaged his left hand
If Calzaghe really did hurt his hand then maybe his corner signaled the ref to stop the fight short... you never know.
-
Re: Calzaghe damaged his left hand
he hurt his hand,he will always hurt his hand.it isnt breaking news.thats the reality now for calzaghe.when you have broke your hand a number of times it NEVER properly heals.he didnt mention it after as he doesnt need to,everybody knows that joe's hand will go to SOME EXTENT in every fight.sad, but true
-
Re: Calzaghe damaged his left hand
I read that at the post fight press conference he had ice on his hand he's a puff

Re: Calzaghe damaged his left hand
If he actually injured it to any serious extent.. Then it's a pretty big deal for him right now.. How can he manage to hurt it in 3 rounds against Manfredo without ever having to do much at all, then how will he hold up if he ever get's one of these mega fights, in the late rounds.. Seems almost unlikely he couldn't hurt it if he did so this fight :-\
-
Re: Calzaghe damaged his left hand
I know when it happened, he hit Manfredo in the shoulder with one of his shots, probably happened then.

Meanwhile you got guys from this generation like Delahoya, Barrera, Morales, Mosely, Holyfield, Coralles, Gatti etc. that would fight anyone and brake there balls and make sure they leave their calling card everytime out

CC 497 on me! I'm so sick of the mouth... He's been on record saying he was calling this one and that one out forever... It may be Warren but if Joe really wanted to fight one of these guys HE COULD!

You can do if you want to. Although it does appear that once again your turning one question into another where Jones Jr is concerned.
Once again, did Jones Jr stick his neck on the line and fight everyone that he could or did he play it safe?

Well he stuck his neck on line fighting p4p number 1 at middleweight James Toney when that was his first fight at that weight and to be honest Jones Jr has beat great fighters Hill Toney and who else could he have fought ?? he didn't duck anyone imo and you would think Joe Calzaghe with 20 title defenses that he would of beat atleast one great name and has he ?? nope.
-
Re: Calzaghe damaged his left hand
He could have fought Joe he could have fought Benn he could have fought Collins he could have.....you get the picture ;)

I feel compelled to point out that nobody expected either Tarver or Johnson to win their fights with him.
They were compairing Johnson to Braddock after he won

Yes but was that when he would have to travel to England when he was p4p number 1 and i never heard Calzaghe calling out Jones to fight him in America and to be honest is Benn and Collins any greater than Hill or Toney ??

Oh come on Fenster i don't believe that all great fighters were ducking Calzaghe i think it's more to do with that Warren talks alot of bullshit and never actually gets the job done and Calzaghe has never looked to keen either.

Well I wasn't specifically referring to Calzaghe but
What great fighters could/should he have fought then?

Why didn't he move up though he always said he would because its hard to make weight to be honest i think staying at Supermiddleweight was wrong decision yea your be in record books but everyone will know you never fought anyone great so everyone will just think its joke.

Because of a lack of big fights at supermiddle he planned to move up in 2004. Was inked in to face Glen Johnson but had to pull out through injury. Johnson was rightfully pissed off and went on to fight Jones, instead, and Calzaghe was left in limbo back down at supermiddle untill the Lacy fight came along. You do realise it's only just over a year ago that the TWO BEST SUPERMIDDLES IN THE WORLD faced off. Lacy was meant to be THE MAN.
Incidentally Calzaghe was moving to lightheavy again last year, to face Johnson, but Woods ruined the plans.

Oh please!
At least Joe fights through his injuries & doesn't sit it out on a stool against a feather fisted pitty patter of a mini-heavyweight...& I'm a Vitali fan...hell...I'm even a Byrd fan...but an injury is an injury.
This is a prime example of what I stated earlier...nothing is permittable for Joe...but excusable for everyone else. ;)

To be fair to Calzaghe though Ice he's just done EXACTLY what Bernard Hopkins did before him. Completely dominate a single division, defeating all mandatories and making more successful defenses than virtually anybody else ever. I think the win over Manfredo has just put him above Hopkins for number of defenses now with just the legendary Sven Ottke and Joe Luis above him.
To be fair to Joe, when you have succesfully defended your 168 lb title 20 times it must be hard to decide to give it up and fight at a different weight which he pretty much would have to if he wants to fight the big US names.
I'd imagine now that whatever he says, the thought of beating Joe Luis record of 24 defense must be on his mind.
Inkin, followed by Kessler and Taylor if/when he moves up would leave him needing two more.
Finally Hopkins never really grew any balls until he was 40 and got beat now did he, why should Calzaghe be any different?

You can't keep using Lacy as Calzaghe's scapegoat. Anyone that watched Lacy's career knew he was never the real deal. He never fought any real bangers in the division before fighting Calzaghe. Calzaghe is a professional slap boxer, them bullshit illegal punches are the reason why his hands are always hurt. I was starting to respect him, but his just plain sucks. He is a damn good hustler. He has his country on lock. Calzaghe's last 5 opponents were nothing but hyped up contenders. It always looks good when you beat an undefeated fighter, or 1 loss fighter, but all of them fighters weren't really that good.

Re: Calzaghe damaged his left hand
booowhoooo, fight kessler. if he wants to be a great else where besides his home country try fighting someone close to good alteast.

Lacy fooled 95% of the boxing world then. Lacy started FAVOURITE against Calzaghe. Just about every so-called expert picked Lacy!!! Lacy was meant to be the rightful no.1 supermiddle that came to dispose of the pathetic fraud Calzaghe.
Obviously you Kessler lovers KNEW Lacy was useless and Kessler was the rightful no.1.. and maybe if Kessler has the balls he'll come to dispose of the pathetic fraud Calzaghe too.
Whats so impressive about Kesslers last 5 opponents?
Siaca: beaten twice by Byron Mitchell - The same Byron Mitchell that wasn't able to last 6 minutes with Calzaghe.
Mundine: KO'd by Sven Ottke. Beaten by Siaca.
Lucas: Past it veteran - KO'd in his prime by Glenn Catley. Same Glenn Catley that Calzaghe KO'd in Amatuers.
Beyer: Past it veteran - KO'd in his prime by Glenn Catley. Same Glenn Catley that Calzaghe KO'd in Amatuers.
Andrade: Crude, limited, inexperienced, hadn't proved himself world class against anyone.
