I am a big time boxing fan, I even watch women boxing and amateur boxing and in my opinion calzaghe, is the truth I cant lie. Some say he slaps, but he cracks too. That man is a south paw, lighting fast hands and he is willing to fight. I cant c nobody beating him Wright, Jones, Lacey (again), Taylor, but the only person that got a chance is B. Hop.
1st and foremost....Quote:

Heres :coolclick: #1 on me...
And I agree he cracks too, hes fast.
I don't agree that B-Hop is the only with a shot at beating him...
I think they B-Hop & Winky have better chances at beating him....
I gotta ask since your new, wadda' think Kesslers chances are at beating him?
Agree with ICE COLD here totally, this guy just doesn't fight the top guys in his division!Quote:

He wants Jones jr well past his best and Hopkins but I doubt if those fights will take place.
Calzaghe is a good fighter, yet to prove he is a great one. He needs Kessler this year!
Joe is a great fighter with bad hands and a bad manager. He slaps because of his brittle hands. He would not slap his punches if his hands could hold up. Joe has to take the tiger by the tail and fight number ones.
what if the fight wasn't stop so quick like that, i mean it was his homecountry and he had broken his hands well inbetween rounds the ref must of been notified joe has hurted his hands. what if the fight had continued and joes hands kept on hurting, peter could had a chance to make him look crap. homecountry thang good stoppage ref, good looking out for you boy joe.Crap,
but both peter and joe is crap to me.hehehe
I don't think he's overrated so much as he has been protected for too long. He is a good fighter, but how are we to no how good if he never gets in with the top guys. He's 35 now, so it's now or never. He could have a money fight with Hopkins or Jones, something that has been talked about for 10 years. Though now I think that time has passed. Now if he's gonna continue to stake his claim as the number 1 guys at SuperMiddle, he's got to fight Kessler, who has certainly earned his shot at the proverbial title.
ummmmmmmmm i would have to say at this point he seriously needs to leave his homeland and go abroad preferibly 702 where real stars are born!
thats why as much as i hate on ricky hatton from time to time i also gotta give it up to him for having the balls to rep stateside, i mean come on its def best for business/marketing and for the bigger fights over all.
never saw the guy fight but from now on im calling manfredo a bum
He's always slappedQuote:

Calzaghe is overrated and is crap as a champion and at delivering great fights for the fans can't blame warren for it all.His boxing ability is'nt bad but he does slap always has and he throws to much pitter patter stuffQuote:

Yes he slaps when he does those flurries and I've said it for years, what is means is the other guy has to cover up and JC looks good even if they don't land (see last Sat.for an example of that)
Overated? Depends how you rate him doesn't it? Some years back I thought he would take on the best but now? At 35 you've not had a superfight? You have to ask questions why. If it's W then JC has to take responsibility for that as well, you're employing him to matchmake/promote and handle your career.
The slaps haven't hindered him in compiling a 43-0 (32 ko's) record. He's been the WBO champion for nigh-on ten years, has beaten former holders of the WBC, WBA and unified against the IBF champion, is the current longest reigning title holder in any weight class and is universally recognised as a top 10 P4P fighter (8th by The Ring magazine).Quote:

if you take a look at calzaghes fight against veit, a few years ago, you could see, that calzaghe could hit, eventhoug veit is a litlle bit of a glass chin, then calzaghe still throws hard punches.. i think age and hand problems are the main reasons for him slapping, my opinion is that with the slapping, he looks even faster then he really is.. i think calzaghe is overrated, but mostly by people in the british isles.. if he was so good, as everybody says, then for christ sakes, he should have landed a big fight years ago.. he fights, his fans say, was a very skillfull lacy, others not so lacy friendly. but nevertheless, he took away the american“s ibf world champion, and that was in my opinion his way into the american market, then he fights bika, and now manfredo, and they claim, manfredo is the ticket to america.. hmm.. then what the hell was the ibf world champion???
on the one side, you have calzaghe, and on the other fighters from america, rjj, hopkins(LHW & MV), toney and so on , who at one point in the career has been in the same weight as calzaghe, these fighters have boxed the big ones in their careers, they have been willing to put everything on the line.., that is missing from calzaghe, you could claim that that it takes 2 to tango, but the proof is there, the stars have boxed, with the exception of calzaghe.. is it simply bad luck ond bad negotiation skills, i dont think so, when undefeated and world champion for a decade, going for stardom and above all legacy, and yet no BIG star fight in the states has happened, you wonder, will it ever..
The Byron Mitchell fight told me what Joe was about.
Anyone else getting progressively more worried about his brittle hands? I mean if they fracture in a fight like the Manfredo one where he hardly landed a clean shot then whats gonna happen against a tough fighter like Inkin or Froch who can take a shot :-\
No Smash mate Joe broke his hands after the Eubank fight so the problem has always been there mate ;)
No way he is overrated or crap... the guys a p4p'r and rightly so.
What he is though is prob the biggest wasted talent the UK has produced :(
I remember seeing him beat Eubank and thinking fuck me we have a massive future star here to take out all the big names... then nothing special in the machups after that ??? ??? ???
till Lacy come on the scene who was built up as the supermiddle Tyson and deserved the tag regardless of what people say about Lacy now he was a monster before Joe met him.... and to me it was Joe's finest hour of boxing... just dont know what took so long ???
So Crap NO... Overrated NO.
Yeh, I fear that if he goes in with one of the top boys and his hands go after a few rounds he is fooked!!
I think his career has been largely waisted, whomevers fault that may be. Obviously his hands and his 3 years divorce and all the mental issues that cuased him have contributed heavily
I think he could've been great, I always thought he would be after following him as am amateur, but at 35 and with very dodgy hands I doubt he can complie the 2 or 3 major wins he needs to achieve greatness!!
Whatever anybody thinks of him, it is not possible to be champion of the world for 10 years if you are 'crap'
What i mean id that he doesn't and hasn't sparred for years now and he doesn't use the heavy bag at all which should preserve his hands as best possible, then he lands 2 clean shots on someone and breaks his hands.
Something wrong there and could be devastating when he does fight a live opponent with a great chin.
No way he beats Kessler or Froch one handed, maybe even Inkin too.
Looks nice the way you typed all that up.Quote:

There's a limited point of view concerning Joe Calzagh among his detractors.
Honestly...it's a bit ridiculous to hear someone say that he's both overratted & crap.
Joe's underratted & he sure as shit aint crap. Joe's handed some hellacious beatings to some skilled fighters & his amateur record speaks bounds regarding his abilities as well as his stint as a pro.
To say that man is crap...well that borders on stupidity.
If you don't like his style...that's one thing...but either you aren't taking the wins into effect or your just projecting hate.
The man is good...he deserves respect. The men that he beat, soundly I might add, didn't just lie down in the ring...he put them down. Period. Also...a lot of the people that rip into Joe about his opponents needed to see the fights. Several of Joe's opponents equal or surpass some of Jones & Hopkins opponents. Just because you don't know them doesn't make them shit.
I realize that most boxing fans have "what have you done for me lately" syndrome...but you have to pay attention to a man's overall record & the way that he has won.
For a pitty pat fighter...he's knocked out a hell of a lot of men.
Do your research...watch the matches before you blast him.
Sal heres CC#515 that shit! made me laugh.....
Ha ha ha ha haha ha ha ha ha ha!!!
Thanks for the laugh.... ;D

I don't think Calzaghe is overrated or crap. Calzaghe is tremendously skilled and judging by the beating he is taking on this board and in the boxing media he is underrated if anything. I simply think that either he or Warren (most likely Warren), for whatever reason, don't seem to want him in the ring with other great fighters. They talk a good game, but when it comes time to put pen to paper, there's always some excuse as to why the fight cannot be made. I think that Calzaghe would probably beat Kessler, no matter where the fight takes place, but for a myriad of supposedly rational reasons the fight has not, and probably will not, take place.
i don't like calzaghe but i do think he is a skilled fighter.
He's not crap. That definitely goes way too far.
But I do think he's overrated, and I really don't understand the comments here that "no, actually he's under-rated. He's #8 in the Ring Magazine's P4P list. He's even higher on the Saddo list. How is he possibly underrated? Do you people actually think he's better than PBF, Pac or Winky, or that he deserves their spots?
I personally had him at around #10 after the Lacy fight, but his stock is rapidly falling--not just because of who his competition has been, but because of how he's looked against it (yes, that includes against Manfredo, where I thought he was actually pretty inaccurate, through only arm-punches, and won on pure volume).
