Re: Texas boxing authorities approve use of electrolyte drinks during title fights
Overall I think its a good idea, the stuff is safe and legal and works. And Texas is bloody hot.
That being said, trainers are going to want to be careful, and cut it.It absorbs better, and cut it doesnt bounce

Re: Texas boxing authorities approve use of electrolyte drinks during title figh
Great idea and even in Europe where it's cold compared to Texas it gets hot as f*ck under the ring lights.

Its actually something thats protecting your fighter, unlike say Andro,or heaven forbid roids, were you get an immediate benefit, but either uncertain downsides down the road,or very definit bad ones

Re: Texas boxing authorities approve use of electrolyte drinks during title fights
This is something I have used myself during trining sessions.
It quenches your thirst, rather than drinking litres of plain water which actualy makes you more dehydrated by diluting the salts and sugars in your body.
I used diohralite, its a drink for dihorea, it works brilliant and is cheper than sugar laden lucazade.
I have also though about the use of oxygen masks, either between rounds or in the dressing room before hand. Your body uses oxygen as as an energy, the more saturated your body is with the stuff the more work output you can give, just like when you are in the gym and you breath from outside a window or door where the air is cooler, in cold air, oxygen is more condensed and therefore you get more pertcentage of oxygen per square metre in cold air than warm.
After your gulp of cold air you instantly feel the benefits because of the higher oxygen levels.
If I were a trainer I would even sneak a bottle of oxygen in to the arena in a kit bag and just sit it under his stool and release the gas while he is sitting between rounds, he will get a massive boost of energy
Im very surprised that with all the trainers in the world looking for legal advantages for their boxers, that they havent thought of these Two very simple solutions to dehydration and exhaustion.

Re: Texas boxing authorities approve use of electrolyte drinks during title figh
ok, i have a complaint here...
lets all be honest...
CLEARLY there was some corporation that paid for their drink to be allowed to be used during fights so they could sponsor the fuck out of events... and i am pissed off as once again a corporation completley controls a government decision >:mad >:mad >:mad

Re: Texas boxing authorities approve use of electrolyte drinks during title fights
Whos to say these drinks WON'T be tempered with?
I don't like this one bit, to be honest.
It's always been water and water only.

Re: Texas boxing authorities approve use of electrolyte drinks during title fights
I'd like this at all...brings back memories of P.J.'s Black Bottle.
Stick with water...it's often on the up & up.

Re: Texas boxing authorities approve use of electrolyte drinks during title fights
I didn't have an opinion either way until CutMeMick brought up the tampering issue. Now, I'm not so happy about the idea. Unless, they use the powdered form and it's mixed and handed out at ringside. Or something like that...

I don't think Red Bull falls under the 'electrolyte' drink.
Due to the ingridients it contains.

Re: Texas boxing authorities approve use of electrolyte drinks during title fights
about time to with the drinks, it'll have more of an effect for the those cutting weight, I do wonder how it will be regulated. Ross is right about using diolyte or whatever it's called. I've also heard diluting orange juice and adding a pinch of salt to a drink if you're stuck.

In all honesty all of that stuff should be Promoter provided, and official checked
Hell they check your wraps, they check your gloves, why not check the rest of your equipment.
Its not like Gatorade goes bad in a week.Test it,or provide it,and give it to the trainers at ringside

Re: Texas boxing authorities approve use of electrolyte drinks during title fights
This is a good thing. just like the water it needs to be factory sealed before use in a match.

Chris Eubank used to drink orange juice with warm water and a pinch of salt after working out
Any sports drink is not an electrolyt solutuion
A genuine solution comes in the form of diahorea powder, it is made to replace lost electrolytes and works out cheaper and alot more effective than a sports drink, they come in sealed foil packages and you just mix with water.
Also the bottled oxygen is a good idea

Correction, lipovitan or red bull. lipovitan was stronger before. I don't know if it's still better than red bull. hehehe. I used lipovitan for 4 months during my board exams and it was not actually good. It saps you of energy later on.
I'd still go for plain water. no side effects. don't know if this applies to boxing.

Re: Texas boxing authorities approve use of electrolyte drinks during title fights
2 things..
1. The commission overseeing the bout should be the ones giving the drinks out immediately before the fight so there is no chance of tampering.
2. Tampering is one thing, what about the sticky gloves issue? That's the main concern imo, because if that stuff gets on gloves that is going to cause cuts. I've used gatorade a lot from everything from just going to the gym to football and the stuff is like pine tar. It gets sticky and I'm sure it's abrasive.

Tampering is my major concern but your second point is a good one too, I never really thought about that. Maybe it is just a bad idea overall?

Re: Texas boxing authorities approve use of electrolyte drinks during title fights
We'll just have to see how this plays out. there's an upside and downside to every change that could be made to boxing.

Very good point you make, when gatorade dries out that shit! is sticky... And IMO it will cause an effect on punches landed....
Wow!! Wonder if they thought about this? ???

i think they'd just give them the stuff to drink. I don't think they'd be showering them with the stuff like that do with water (have separate water supplies for cooling off purposes ??? ) if they did that the ring would get sticky too.

I see what your saying and it makes sense BUT what about when a fighter decides to spit it out and not drink it and it spills on him then he uses his glove to wipe you know after all he is in a fight and the last thing hes worried is where the water/drink will land once he decides to spit it out...
You only get 60 sec. so fumbling/throwing the drink around and it spilling isn't far from what CAN happen.

Re: Texas boxing authorities approve use of electrolyte drinks during title fights
Exactly about the fumbling Mick. Remember the Vargas - Mosley II bout almost got held up by it and that's the point I wanted to see DLH address but he didn't until after the fight. Just a bad idea overall imo. I mean it's 12 rounds, and it's not like fighters are really wearing out. I just don't really see the need for it.

I would say about less then a quarter of what they actually spit out lands OUTSIDE or dripps on the side of the bucket/cup/container.
I'm just saying when your in a fight your last concern is spitting out the water properly into the bucket/container.
I guess we'll just have to wait and see how it plays out on Sat.

Re: Texas boxing authorities approve use of electrolyte drinks during title fights
this is only in texas and im sure at this point its in a trial phase so i wouldn't worry about it too much unless the discussed issues come up.

Re: Texas boxing authorities approve use of electrolyte drinks during title fights
Are you guys actually saying that they can be laced with some illegal stuffs? Geeze, I thought they do that just for cocks - not that one -the ones used in cock-fighting.

Boxing is like cock fighting, Pacfan.
