Competition time **WE HAVE A WINNER**

Im going to kick off what I hope will be the first of many competitions here at the greatest boxing forum on the web bar none.

Unlike the prediction league and Killersheeps excellent virtual sports book this will be a straight up question and answer quiz with the prize going to the first name drawn out of a hat.

The prize then. Thanks to the effort of our own Scrap and the generosity of author Brian Hughes, I have a signed copy of his new book, Peerless, The Sugar Ray Robinson story to give away. It is an excellent read and a review will be on the front page shortly.

To win the prize answer these questions.

1) What was Ray Robinsons real name.

2) Which of his opponents was known as The Onion Farmer

3) How many times did Robinson fight in London England and how many of those times was he victorious.

Please PM all answers to me and I will give them a number in the order that I receive them. I will then pass a completed list on to Saddo and he can ask a third party to pick a random number and give us our winner.

The competition will close on the last day of April and a winner will hopefully be announced on May 1st.

Before the drawing can you post a list of participants and the number they have (easy enough to figure out :laugh:*)

This way I can think hard on my number and try to force the moon and stars into proper alignment.

CC's back. Hopefully it will be an ongoing thing. Naturally it depends on what we can get our hands on. Saddo's got a signed Hatton T-Shirt that he's been gagging to get rid of for ages so we are alright for another turn ;D

We were lucky enough to get this prize for nowt but that might not aways be the case. I wouldnt mind putting my hand in my pocket every once in a while for a book or DVD so we'll see what happens ;)

I might be out of order here,A bit about Brian which I find interesting .He left school not being able to read or write. He taught himself,I once asked him why he did it. His reply to fund the boxing club, if youre waiting for the kids to pay subs youll be waiting forever. Brians a boxing man, and a gentleman.

Thanks...I looked in the FAQs and stuff but I couldn't find any kind of information...I guess I'm almost there so I'll be able to enter the contest. This is a great idea.

Great competition, have PM'd you my picks, and hope there are many more to come. It can only attract more people on to the forum, inspire debate about the sport, and boost it generally.

RESULT!!! RESULT!!! RESULT!!!

Ok guys the competition is over and a winner has been picked. First of all the correct answers.

1) Ray Robinson's real name was of course Walker Smith Jr

2) Carmen Basilio was known as the Onion Farmer

3) Robinson fought in London 3 times losing to both Randy Turpin and Terry Downes before beating Johnny Angel. 3 fights, 1 win.


Scrap did the honours and picked the winning number (9) which belonged to Superheavyrhun, congratulations mate ;) check your PM's.

Thanks to all that took part. No prizes are lined up at the moment but we will have something up for grabs at the end of May.
