Bonds nears all-time homerun mark.
Personally, I cringe each day that goes by and Bonds gets closer and closer. Hank Aaron was a class act, but Bonds is anything BUT. And as for his denial of using steroids, he must think fans are idiots or something. You don't get that huge without being on some serious juice. So no, I hope he doesn't get there. Although sadly, he probably will.

Re: Bonds nears all-time homerun mark.
If valuev beat marcianos mark i would be upset but i dont feel the same about the all time homerun record. I don't care what kind of steroids you're on, its not that easy to hit a small white dot that travels at your fache sometimes exceeding 100mph. Steroids help no doubt but it still takes the ability to stay healthy, coordination and a bunch of other facotrs.

Re: Bonds nears all-time homerun mark.
Well yeah, but Hank did that same thing without help. It's all a bit sad, Barry gets absolutely no love outside of the Bay, especially in the big markets. What he's doing is simply unbelievable. It is an undescribable feeling watching Barry hitting one out of the park live. Last there for 724. It was awesome.
I am torn though. What he's doing is a bit under appreciated, but Hank deserves that record. So on one part, I'll be sad to see it fall for Hank, though it should do nothing to effect his legacy.
But, as a fan of the Giants and baseball in general, I really want to see history be made. To be honest, if Hank wasn't so silent on the matter I would feel better one way or the other.

let bonds get the mark as high as he wants it because a-rod is projected to end his career with over a thousand and he is way too small to have ever juiced.

Re: Bonds nears all-time homerun mark.
does england even have a national baseball team for the world classic and stuff like that?
-
Re: Bonds nears all-time homerun mark.
im pretty sure they didnt
but that world classic is a joke
what it SHOULD be is pro teams from all around the world in a tournament, even if its just the teams that won thier league championships, and japan would STILL win, japans world champs would KTFO MLB world series champs ANY year
-
Re: Bonds nears all-time homerun mark.
thats because they are baseball fanatics over in japan. A lot of people stay up til 3am in the morning to watch dice-k pitch.

Not that I know of, and I follow most sports here.
That'll probably explain why I didn't know who Bonds was as we don't get any coverage of baseball anywhere (and nobody knows the rules anyway - isn't it just rounders ;))

Re: Bonds nears all-time homerun mark.
5 have baseball on at times. Ridiculous times to be honest. One day I fell asleep on the sofa and woke up at about 3 or 4 a.m and baseball was on so I made an effort to watch a bit. If I had to give it a UK counterpart that was on a par for excitement I would have to say carpet bowls. By rights I should have been quite fresh after a few hours kip but that shit put me back in the land of nod double quick.
Its nothing like the film Major League ;D I was nost dissapointed.

none of this is proven...and we know for a fact sluggers back in the day were popping uppers by the handful and steroids were around in the 60's and 70's.....with no way of testing and legal....
-
Re: Bonds nears all-time homerun mark.
Well let's look at the numbers BigRagu Barry Bonds hit 46 homers in San FranSISSY-CO in 1993....then his numbers started to plane out.....37 (1994), 33(1995), 42(1996), 40(1997), 37(1998), 34(1999)....hell I'll even give him the next year in 2000 when he hit 49 homeruns!
But the next year??? Oh no FUCKING WAY he was 37 years old and he hit 73.....no way you LEGALLY make a 24 homerun JUMP at the tail fucking end of your career!!!!

Re: Bonds nears all-time homerun mark.
Let me tell you guys something, how many of you played baseball in your life?
Even if he did steroids If you don't have the eye to hit that fast little mothe Focka ball 400 feet. Even if they where legal you won't be able to do it. So that is Talent.

Are you saying it is OK to cheat just so long as you had some talent to begin with?

Re: Bonds nears all-time homerun mark.
Ok let explaine myself again. If he did steroids or not eve if they where legal as Far as i'm concern in the part of hitting the ball that is not cheating that is talent. look at Vargas Oscar had more talent than him so as far as I concernt talent prevails
so... a ball that moves at 85 to 100 mph and you are able to see it coming and hit it the best way you can that is talent no matter how much steroids you do got me. maybe he had more energy or what ever but hitting that ball in only takes one thing and that is talent.

Which begs the question, why take steroids?

Re: Bonds nears all-time homerun mark.
I think is a stamina issue. I'm no expert but I don't lift weights i'm 5'10" and I can hit the ball out of the park in a big league park. I  played Baseball untill my 20 something.
So it's a good question that is why only think is a stamina Issue something to keep you going. In that way yes is cheating but the part that you can eve touch the ball a 95mph and hit it perfectly he deserves some credit
-
Re: Bonds nears all-time homerun mark.
I dont doubt he has got superb hand eye coordination ;D
How much stamina does he need to play baseball? To my untrained eye it doesnt look the most demanding of sports, no offence meant ;)

Re: Bonds nears all-time homerun mark.
When Maris broke Ruth's single season homer record in 1961 I believe there is an asterisk next to his name in the record book indicating that the '61 season had more games than when Ruth was playing. If Bonds breaks Aaron's record there should be a notation that he did it on performance enhancing drugs. By the way, I voted that I hate the steroid guzzling jerk.

Yes I have played baseball before....the hand eye coordination is one point but are you telling me that it doesn't matter AT ALL?
When guys MISS the sweet spot and still hit the ball 400 feet....you tell me it doesn't make a difference.
Steroids make for quick comebacks from injuries, better quick twitch muscle reflexes, and obviously more strength.....and therefore it makes for easier record breaking when it comes to hitting.
But I wonder why Ricky Henderson hasn't been mentioned for roids.....Jose Canseco used them, McGwire used them, and Ricky just stole 100+ bases.....speed is helped a ton by roids as we have seen....I mean I like Ricky Henderson but I have to question what he did because of the era and his teammates
-
Re: Bonds nears all-time homerun mark.
Ricky was one of my favs.
oh and read my post above
that is why I like Carlos Beltran, very athletic christian boy

As I stated before, steroids don't only make you big they help quick twitch muscles so a person doing steroids can infact be faster in their reactions than a person not on steroids.
As for stamina, it's not an issue in one game but when you play 162 + the playoffs it becauses a HUGE factor
