How the Hell do you Sell Hopkins Wright??
Now don't get me wrong I am a huge fan of both..IMO they are both two of the top fighters of not only this generation but
Hopkins is in the top 3 best middleweights of all time
Winky Wright is perhaps one of the top 3 defensive fighters of all time...I mean this guy has superb defense and he doesn't have to run around the ring to apply it...
With all that being said let's be real for a moment....Neither is known for thrilling fights...Are they good YES...exciting..NO
Now they face off in July......Trying to selld this fight is like trying to convince a class of High School grads to attend Bingo at the senior home and blow off prom to do it....
I hope the under card is exciting as all hell

Re: How the Hell do you Sell Hopkins Wright??
I think.. That bernard is going to win it.. Winky is becoming increasingly offensive which was plain to see in the Quartey fight.. And it may have cost him the fight against jermain taylor..
But if he does wish to go into his shell ala trinidad performance it shouldnt make much difference to Bernard.. I see him bieng patient and just walking winky down and waiting for him to let his hands go..Eventually winky would get frustrated and have to give something to bernard.. Even with his hands up so tightly i can still see bernard stealing rounds.. Just jumping in throwing what he can to the body, to the guard try to get a few through the guard.. and move out again..
Either way.. Although it does not fuss me..I will happily watch the fight start to finish for the pure fact that the match up is intriguing.. But it will either be very scrappy.. Or very slow paced..
-
Re: How the Hell do you Sell Hopkins Wright??
I agree it'll be scrappy. I wouldn't be suprised if it was a draw.
-
Re: How the Hell do you Sell Hopkins Wright??
yep this sure is an interesting fight for sure, these guys are both masters of what they do. as to pick a winner i just couldn't say, but for excitement nooo way,
what lies ahead for the winner, bar a rematch? cant see RW ever fighting Taylor again and the same goes for b-hop, step up Mr calzaghe and i honestly believe he is the one man who could beat these two convincingly, at super middle thou.

Two words....."B" and "HOP" that will pretty much sell anywhere....
-
Re: How the Hell do you Sell Hopkins Wright??
Yeah I agree...these guys will sell it on their names alone.
I mean ... 35,000 people at Millenium Stadium to see Calzaghe vs Madfredo...BHop and Winky will have no probs!

Agreed. Even people who have criticised the idea of putting these two together have said they will still watch the fight. I will if Sky buy it, but it wouldn't surprise me if they don't. Damn I wish the UK had HBO.

Re: How the Hell do you Sell Hopkins Wright??
How about " A fight for the boxing purist "
Two great men , two great fighters , a boxing chessmatch it my turn out but watching two master at there trade is fine by me :)
Two real fighters ARE YOU LISTENING JOE CALZAGHE :)
-
Re: How the Hell do you Sell Hopkins Wright??
just watching two legendary fighters in the same ring, future hall of famers, going at it for real (i hope so) gets ppl swarming into arena's! it sells.
i think this fight is exciting in a different sort of way, two fighters who are masters of chess match boxing, the fans wanna see who gets the better of who every round. the onli way i see this fight becoming boring is, when one fighter totally dominates in the chess match and starts winning almost every round. these two fighters are defensive masters so we wont get a gatt-ward.
i am looking forward to this fight.

Re: How the Hell do you Sell Hopkins Wright??
Winky knows how to fight counterpunchers, And B-hop knows how to counter ;D I think it'll be a surprisingly good fight, and they'll both open up.

Also...this fight sells itself.

Re: How the Hell do you Sell Hopkins Wright??
This fight should sell no problem. Two of the top guys in boxing and intriguing with Winky moving up in weight again.

They'll probably somehow link the fight to 4th of July or something patriotic.
Thats the only thing that comes to mind.

Re: How the Hell do you Sell Hopkins Wright??
This fight has bore wrote all over it
-
Re: How the Hell do you Sell Hopkins Wright??
bhop knows how to sell a fight so I'm not worried at all,
I think this fight is bigger then pbf vs odlh, bhop has k.o'ed oscar and if pbf ever faces winky, winky will punish little floyd.
two real legendary fighters stepping up to face one another, It could be a chess match but THIS FIGHT IS HUGE!!!!!!!!!!
This is like p4p #1 vs P4P #1 defensive wise, WE HAVEN'T SEEN ANYTHING LIKE THESE TWO STYLES THAT DOMINATE COLLIDE!!!!
I"m excited already!!!!!!!!!
Now this will be the truth of 2007 historic event mark my words guys,
damn i just did a great job selling the fight, see how easy it is to sell it. For sure bhop will sell it even better for us fans.
CAN WAIT FOR THIS, i RATHER SEE THESE TWO FIGHT MORE THEN run floyd run vs keep up old oscar keep up. FOREAL guys this is huge!!!!!!!!

Re: How the Hell do you Sell Hopkins Wright??
Also, selling tickets to this "event" is one thing and selling it as a PPV is another completely absurd thing.

Re: How the Hell do you Sell Hopkins Wright??
I think it will sell if they market it as the light heavyweight champion vs. Winky Wright. It will sell. Will it be a good fight? I am not sure. Anyday now Bernard will show his age. I am not knocking 42 years old. I am 42 years old and I am actually one month or even 3 weeks younger than Bernard. So I am not knocking the age, but 42 years old will show up against Wright maybe. I am not sure how he can fight at this age so effectively. Alot of guys can fight at this age. Putting on gloves and beating a humpty dumpty is not that difficult, but Bernard fights and beats guys like Tarver and almost beat Taylor. But now is years later and lower in weight. So Wright will be faster than Bernard,, and I just think Wright wins this fight.

Boxing fans are interested in this fight. It wouldnt be a mega-fight...but it would definitely put up decent PPV numbers and increase both fighters profiles.

I agree it is a great fight for boxing purist an I will be excited to see it....Two master boxers in the ring...
I wasn't trying to make the fight seem like it sucked so if it sounded that way to anyone out there it is not what I meant..
It just seems that Pure boxing and the truest and best of forms does not seem to sell anymore
Truth is people seem to rather have a great fighter go against an overmatched opponent and blow him out now a days...not to sound like a Parrot but...
Why does that last sentence have the words Calzaghe all ove it again
-
Re: How the Hell do you Sell Hopkins Wright??
boxing rec has this fight on july 21st in the USA????????
-
Re: How the Hell do you Sell Hopkins Wright??
it will be hard as hell. ;D because average boxing fans who's appreciation is usually focused on the aggression of fighters, those that lived and died on the mike tyson style era and those who very much love manny pacquiao right now isn't very flexible as a hardcore boxing fans can be. They are not used to a more technical fights and are always looking for knockdowns as a basis of a good fight. But then with the resume of those two prolific boxers a decent sum of money can be generated i sure hope so. ;D

Re: How the Hell do you Sell Hopkins Wright??
Although i think this fight will be a chess match i will still wtach it as there will be 2 world class fighters in ring nd that dont happen often nowadays. Nd i dont agree that winky has one of the top three best defences of all time dues to the fact he aint like witaker nd other great defencive fighter b4 him as i think its cos hes got massive forearms nd gloves the size of ballons which still stops him from getting hit but not as much talent as far as im concerned
