Worst Outcome in a Big Fight
Cuts, premature stoppages, and ear bites happen in boxing. As of late Calzaghe-Manfredo was disappointing, Tyson-Holyfield II was disappointing, Ali-Cooper also robbed us of knowing how the fight would have played out if didn't get cut. Obviously ring death and brain damage is the worst possible outcome in any fight, but I'm talking less serious.

Roberto Duran's "No Mas" in his 2nd fight against Sugar Ray Leonard was pretty revolting, in my book.

I dont think Oscar will fight him again if he wins, and if Floyd wins he will take the W and run

I was unhappy with both guys. I hated Leonards clowning bullsh@t. But Duran was in the fight earlier so its not impossible that he could have got back in the fight.

Re: Worst Outcome in a Big Fight
The Trinidad win against De la Hoya was total bullshit, DLH put on a clinic and was blatantly robbed!
The one thing that angers me most about professional boxing is the B/S decisions we have to put up with from time to time. It will happen again in the future, maybe even next week!

Re: Worst Outcome in a Big Fight
One of the worst for me was the Taylor - Wright draw. Not that I haven't seen worse decisions, but Winky's one of my favorite fighters, The Wright - Trinidad fight sort of got me into boxing, and I was sure he did enough to win.

There have been worst decisions in the world. I'll name two... DLH vs Quartey and DLH vs Sturm ;)

Obviously not a DLH fan, both of those fights were close and DLH would have been stiff to lose either of them. The Trinidad result is exactly what is wrong with boxing sometimes as that fight wasn't even remotely close.

Re: Worst Outcome in a Big Fight
Pernell Whitaker vs Ramirez that was horrid decision
Michael Watson vs Chris Eubank 2 pretty sad

Disagree little bit Tito vs Oscar fight was quite close in alot of peoples eyes but Oscar deserved to win quite comfortably imo i really struggled to give Tito a round through first 9 rounds and i don't know how someone could give Tito 7 rounds its beyond me.

No..Trinidad was given the fight by de la hoya .Not the judges..He shouldnt have ran!
As far as it goes...De la hoya COULD have won that fight..He showed he could outbox him.. But he ran and gave away all the rounds trinidad needed but it was the right decision!

I think Oscar had the beating of Tito but let it slip . He couldnt keep up the pace in the later rounds and it allowed Tito to comeback into it and I think Trinidad deserved the win by 1 point based on his effort he put into the championship rounds

Thats it bro cc..
Everyone saw de la hoya was capable of winning the fight hands down..
I guess he just thought he was way ahead and was a bit silly to rely on the judges thinking he could always get away with it what with him bieng the golden boy of las vegas and he suprisingly didnt get the decision he wanted
Very few people realised that there was at least two or so rounds in the first five where oscar didnt do enough..
For the short periods in a couple of lazy rounds he did show great boxing but he just wasnt busy enough and invited the judges to give away a couple of rounds...
Everyone does it..If a dude is behind and looks to be well beaten and theres a close round..You make a case to give a round to the other guy..And it happened to oscar

Disagree with that if Oscar has dominated most of fight and loses only last couple of rounds Tito deserves to win because he won championship rounds ?? this is boxing you don't give other guy benefit of doubt just because he won championship rounds if you do round by round there is no way on this earth Tito deserved to win.

Correct me if im wrong.. I havnt scored it in a fair while..
But i had tito winning something along the lines of 3,4,7 and 9 onwards..
Even if i am wrong in the rounds i have watched it so many times even just for the sake of scoring it and everytime its easy to make a case for trinidad stealing it..
Its not impressive ..But i have no doubt he won

Tito did not win 3 rounds out of the first 9 he simply was landing hardly anything just look at punchstats where they don't lie in this case through first 9 rounds he was landing alot more than Tito and outlanding him every round sure Tito was aggressor but aggressive boxer shouldn't be giving benefit of doubt if he is hardly landing anything best Tito could of done was 5 rounds and 6 if your being very very generous but by round by round he didn't win.

He didnt only win the championship rounds though . Most of the rounds were pretty close with Oscar running and Tito pressuring . The championship rounds were the only ones clearly dominated by one fighter . . . Tito .
It was nip and tuck in the early rounds . Oscar ,you feel took control in the middle rounds with his boxing but Tito thoroughly dominated all the late exchanges and on my card it was all to fight for going into the 12th and final round . Trinidad wanted it much , much more . Cant remember my exact scorecard round by round but I agreed with commentator Glen Mcrory . Tito by 1 . He was the making the fight and he won his rounds clearly .

Trinidad De La Hoya
Landed 116 263
Thrown 462 648
Pct. 25% 41%
Power Punches
Landed 124 120
Thrown 318 277
Pct. 39% 43%
As you see by punchstats alot of Titos punches missed Oscar was landing sharper cleaner punches and through first 9 rounds i only gave Tito 2 rounds but i really struggled to because Tito was hardly landing.
But if thats your opinion fair enough fair play but imo i don't think Tito won enough of early rounds.

I'll have to watch teh fight again sometime to see which rounds Tito took . The decision surprised me but only cuz I thought De La Hoya was likely to get it , I thought Tito deserved it and I won a money bet on that so I was quite happy .
The only thing I can take from those punch stats is that Tito threw and landed more power punches and never took a step back which must have been what impressed the judges .

First of all, I am sorry to have derailed the topic of this thread with my comment.
But since I started such a debate, might as well continue it.
Quartey vs DLH might not have been such a shocker as Tito vs DLH but that was because of the last round and the fact that he deserved the victory. Ike was done and if the fight lasted 10 more seconds the ref would have stopped the fight. However, as was stated before, the championship rounds should not decide the hole fight. This fight also ended in a split decision which means at least one judge saw Quartey winning the fight.
DLH vs Sturm to be honest I would have to see this one again, but I remember being very upset at the decision and thinking that I didn't remember DLH winning more than 4 rounds. I'll admit that maybe I was so impressed with how well Sturm was doing that I might have given him the benefit of the doubt.
In the Trinidad - DLH fight you have to take into account several things. One being that punch stats do not tell the hole story because they are not divided by round. Two it is a myth that DLH clearly won the first 9 rounds, the first 5 were very much even. Take the first round for example. Nobody did anything in that round and Tito was the aggressor, who are you gonna give it to? And there was one round (3rd or 4th, I can't remember) were Tito clearly won the round with good combinations and clean punches. Also remember that it was a MAJORITY decision. And Ledderman had it even. That means that none of the judges saw DLH win the fight.
My point is all of these fights were very close and to say that the DLH - Trinidad fight was total BS and a robbery is an much bigger exaggeration than me saying the Quartey and Sturm fights were even worst decision.
With that said, I think DLH is a great fighter, I think he is going to beat PBF and I am a fan of his fights. I'm NOT, however, a DLH FANATIC

Re: Worst Outcome in a Big Fight
It has to be Leonard-Duran II.....their first fight was awesome and Duran just quit in the rematch....very poor ending to such a big fight

Re: Worst Outcome in a Big Fight
Manfredo vs Calzage...Not exactly a big fight but man what a lousy fight that turned out to be.
The Bowe vs Gulota fights. These were just plain ridiculous how Gulota just brokedown wile winning both fights.
And was it Mercer? Can't remember ATM who started crying in the middle of the fight. That was bad.
