Top 10 Heavyweights Of 90s Do You Agree With This List ??
1) Evander Holyfield- No other heavyweight this decade has beaten as many top fighters. James "Quick" Tillis, Pinklon Thomas, "Buster" Douglas, George Foreman, Bert Cooper, Riddick Bowe, Alex Stewart, Ray Mercer, Mike Tyson, and Michael Moorer are all on his resume. The fact that this guy accomplished what he did at heavyweight coming from the cruiserweight division is truly amazing.
2) Lennox Lewis- Many will no doubt strongly disagree with me here. I think Lewis is highly underrated. Lewis has been ducked by Tyson and Bowe for a reason. That's not his fault. Lewis did the next best thing in fighting the guys who gave the guys who ducked him a hard time. Besides, Lewis' resume isn't bad by any means: Tyrell Biggs, Mike Weaver, Tony Tucker, Phil Jackson, "Razor" Ruddock, Frank Bruno, Andrew Golota, Mercer, Henry Akinwande, Tommy Morrison and Holyfield. Lewis has been a smart fighter, a good boxer and a good puncher.
3) Riddick Bowe- His 2 wins over Holyfield are of such magnitude that he's here based on those historic wins alone. Outside of that, he hasn't done much to deserve it. He beat some name fighters in Jesse Ferguson, Herbie Hibe, Jorge Luis Gonzalez, Larry Donald, Tony Tubbs, Bert Cooper and Michael Dokes, but these names were usually grossly past their prime/out of shape, or they were inexperienced, but came into prominence after Bowe beat them. A lot more was expected from Bowe and he was capable of a lot more. What might've been doesn't count. He did himself a catastrophic injustice by ducking Lennox Lewis. However, he was a terrific boxer with good power, he had a devestating uppercut, a great left jab and a real knack for in-fighting, which is rare for a fighter his height.
4) George Foreman- Made history by becoming the oldest man to win a heavyweight title even though many looked at him not unlike the way many look at Butterbean: a sideshow circus act. Beat some decent journeymen on the way up like Steve Zouski, David Jaco, Dwight Muhammad Qawi, Evertt "Bigfoot" Martin, Bert Cooper, Gerry Cooney, Ken Lakusta, and Adilson Rodriquez. Gave Holyfield a spirited battle when Holyfield was in his prime. Beat Moorer to regain the championship via 1 punch KO. Only true setback was a loss to Tommy Morrison in probably his most lethargic performance ever. He successfully defended his title once against Axel Schulz in a controversial decision that most people feel George lost, but was actually a close fight. He also beat Alex Stewart in a close war and tough Lou Savarese. Most insiders feel Big George was robbed against Shannon Briggs after giving Briggs a boxing lesson over 12 rounds and so do I. An amazing fighter. Doing what he did at his age was unheard of and he proved his critics wrong.
5) Michael Moorer- A southpaw with an effective right jab and good power; had good power and boxing ability. Very talented, although he lacked motivation at times and thus made some fights closer than they should've been. Probably could've gone further and accomplished more if he had been more inspired. Recorded good wins over Bert Cooper, Alex Stewart, Axel Schulz, Franz Botha and of course, a close decision win over Holyfield.
6) Mike Tyson- Has accomplished little in the 90s in terms of beating the best fighters available, but did regain 2 of the 3 belts in comeback (against Frank Bruno and Bruce Seldon repsectively), has two solid victories over Ruddock. And good KOs against two very game opponents: Buster Mathis Jr. and Franz Botha.
7) Larry Holmes- Extremely underrated in during his comeback. Beat Mercer more convincingly than Holyfield or Lewis. Beat "Bigfoot" Martin and Jesse Ferguson. In my opinion, he beat Oliver McCall and deserved to regain the championship in that fight. I also think he deserved the nod against then undefeated Brian Nielsen and eeked out a points victory over improving Maurice Harris. He gave a prime Holyfield a tough fight and won his rounds more convincingly than Holyfield.
8) James "Buster" Douglas- Beat previously unbeaten Mike Tyson for the undisputed heavyweight championship. He looked like the second coming of a prime Larry Holmes in that fight, pumping the jab effectively and patiently. After 10 rounds, the accumalated punishment took its toll and Douglas scored what is considered in boxing circles as one of the biggest, if not the biggest upset in boxing history. He's here based on that masterful performance alone.
9) Ike Ibeabuchi- This may seem a little soon, but he has already beaten two of the best new heavyweights in Tua and Byrd, which I think are two great accomplishments for such an inexperienced and young fighter. Why? Because in doing so, Ike showed an adaptability to styles. Tua is an in-your-face, hard punching, Tysonesque puncher and Byrd is like a heavyweight Pernell Whitaker. Adaptability is an extremely important trait and Ike showed that against Tua and Byrd.
10) Andrew Golota- This might be a controversial choice, but he did "beat" Riddick Bowe twice and he did so more convincingly than Holyfield ever did. The result was that Golota derailed Bowe's plans to fight for the title again and Bowe ended up having to retire. Since then, he's also beaten Tim Witherspoon and Jesse Ferguson pretty easily. He probably will never go down as an all-time great because his propensity to quit in tough fights have undermined what his skills are capable of.

Yea i do disagree slightly but i would still have Tyson top 5 easily in 90s.
And Bruno is way too high only thing he did in 90s was have good showing against Lewis and win Title off fading McCall.
And Ruddock is too high aswell only thing he did in 90s was give two good showings against Tyson and Lost his two biggest fights after that against Lewis and Morrison.

Every One has a good list But I can't believe the Game is the only one with Merciless Ray Mercer on it!!!!!
Fought top names only lost decisions...won a version of the world title never knocked down....I would not put him at 7 buthe deserves to be at 9 or 10 IMO

Yea i agree Dan top 10 or 9 is about right the reason why he isn't higher though is because losing to average Jesse Ferguson then winning sd in rematch and then getting very close controversial decision against an old Witherspoon but other than that he was pretty damn good knocking out Morrison giving Holyfield fits and losing razor thin decision to the best heavyweight of 90s Lewis.

Bruno is bit too robotic and doesn't have survival instinct to beat Holyfield but yes your other 4 are fine ;)

Re: Top 10 Heavyweights Of 90s Do You Agree With This List ??
Tyson can't possibly be higher than 4th on this list. Even Bowe, who was a classic underachiever, must be ranked higher than Tyson, since Bowe's 2 wins over Holyfield are more impressive than anything Tyson did in the 90's.
I'd rank the Top 4 as:
1. Lewis
2. Holyfield
3. Bowe
4. Tyson
I'd rank Holyfield higher than Lewis on a PFP list because of his work at cruiserweight.

Does anyone remember the Contraversy about the Mercer VS Ferguson fight....Jesse claimed that during the fight Ray wispered in his ear during a clinch "I'll pay you 10,000 dollars if you throw the fight".. ???

Ya I can see that argument.
The reason I didn't rank Bowe higher is because the two wins over Holyfield are really the only important wins on his resume. If he had just one or two more important wins, I'd put him #2.
One fault about Lewis, Holyfield, and Bowe.... they all fought to the level of their competition. They all had great performances against top opponents, but they also had some really crappy performances against lesser opponents.

Take out Lewis, Tyson, and Holyfield...... and you're scraping the bottom of the barrel, IMO. Another exception is Foreman. His comeback was admirable, at that age. But the rest, to me, is a "who's who" of forgettable names.

Re: Top 10 Heavyweights Of 90s Do You Agree With This List ??
1 as much as i hate to do it i have to give him the nod as the most accomplished fighter of the 90's therefore the best fighter. he kayied buster douglas easy right after he brutalized tyson to start the decade and then had 3 amazing fights with a prime, focused riddick bowe, winning one and not disgracing himself one bit in the other two, despite bowe being far bigger, much younger, and more talented physically than him. he also beat lennox in that second fight at the end of the decade despite what the scoring said, and leenox was just a hair past his prime and holy was just about worn out. he also beat foreman, holmes, kayoed mike tyson, murcer, split fights with a prime moorer. he won the title 3 times in the decade.
2 lennox lewis--was underated before he hit the big time. he beat holy in the first fight even though vander was past it and got jobbed with a draw..he was also probably the most active big time heavy in the 90's he destroyed ruddock, morrison, golota, and shannon briggs. also beat bruno. tucker, akinwande, mercer embarrassd mcall in ther second fight, whipped biggs easy, and beat a very underrated mavrovic. again not his fault he was ducked either.
3 tyson --actually mike had a very underrated 90's IMO. he reagained the title and also beat a prime, dangerous razor ruddock 2x. also destroyed bruno, seldon, and kayoed botha with one shot. he was also on the cusp of kayoing holy b4 he lost his mind. u have to give hm the nod over bowe and old timers like foreman and holmes for reasons ill state below.
4 riddick bowe--he beat a prime holy clean in a great 1st encounter and won the series 2 to 1. that alone gets him in this spot and ahead of moorer. also thomas biggs seldon tubbs dokes is a decent lineup of guys also 2 "official" wins over a prime golota no matter what the circumstances. it was a brief run but when he was great he was truly great.
5 michael moorer--i know he got kayoed by george foreman, but he got a clean win over a near prime holyfield and was kicking georges behind up until he ran into a right hand. he also regained the title in the 90's as well and had clean wins over botha and a very underrated prime axel schultz.
6 george foreman---would have been higher but had too many losses. his only real good win in the 90's was based on a hail mary punch on the soft whiskers of michael moorer who was handing him his big fat old behind up until then. but he was active and had success. a spirited points loss to a prime holy shouldnt dimiish him, but losses to soft chinned guys like morrison and briggs hurt him. also got a gift in schultz fight when he clearly got beat. aslo took a hellacious beating from alex stewart who everyone else on this list except lewis kayoed. (lewis would have if he got the chance).
7 larry holmes--the other old dude cracks the top ten by going the distance with prime holy and prime mcall , probably deserving the mcall nod. combine that with whippping a prime ray murcer. remember mcall just got done handing lennox his scalp and murcer destroyed morrison so these were both dangerous fights for anyone especially a granddaddy.
8 oliver mcall--kayoing a prime lennox lewis with one punch gets him in the top ten. beating an old yet still effective larry holmes helps and so does a one round kayo of oleg maskaev. also kayoed bruce seldon and francesco damiani.
9 ray murcer--gave prime holy and lewis hellacious battles. many think he deserved the nod in both , particularly against lewis. also, had a highlight reel kayo of tommy morrison, who was unbeaten and on the way up in a hurry at the time. also kayoed damiani. just so uneven. losing to jesse ferguson, and old holmes, drawing with marion wilson. could have had a much better career, but at his best was a tough out and a world class heavy.
10 tommy morrison--tough pick, with alot of guys like golta and briggs around , but tommy did alot in the nineties. razor ruddock , a clean win over foreman, thomas, tillis, joe hipp, truth williams. did more than briggs, and even though golota beat thecrap out of a near prime bowe 2x he still got dq's and disgraced himself both times, so i cant give him alot of credit for that even though he was a true talent physically in his prime.
homorable mention:
golota, briggs, tua, ibeabuchi, ruddock, bruno

Re: Top 10 Heavyweights Of 90s Do You Agree With This List ??
Lewis has to be 1. Beat Holyfield twice, regardless of how it was scored, and he had already beaten Bowe at the olympics. Bowe ducked him, and had to give up the belt. Bowe is a bitch. Give him credit for coming to fight against Holy, but he's still a bitch.
-
Re: Top 10 Heavyweights Of 90s Do You Agree With This List ??
I think Evander beat the most of the top fighters, but Lennox beat the best in a more impressive fashion and dominated more than Evander. Evander would give a good fight and he would lose to Moorer, and then beat Moorer in the rematch. I think my list would be
Lennox Lewis
Evander Holyfield
Riddick Bowe
Mike Tyson
George Foreman.

i still think a prime lewis and tyson wouldnt have much trouble koing big george.....he was very slow and ponderous in his prime and lewis and tyson match him for power but tyson especially was to fast for foreman... just IMO 8)

I think they could of won decision but not ko Big George he had granite chin only thing though is 90s Tyson was getting hit by them wild uppercuts and wild hooks from slow ponderous Razor Ruddock same punches Foreman could catch him with and 90s Lewis well 90s Lewis was bit wild and got caught and could of been caught by one of Foreman's punches.

Re: Top 10 Heavyweights Of 90s Do You Agree With This List ??
i didn't see the "of the 90's" part at first and was about to freak out lol i'm not gonna bother making a list as everyone has already covered the usual suspects.
