Unless Oscar is way better than he was against Mayorga...
I just watched his Mayorga fight after watching Mayweather's last fight against Baldomir, and his(ODLH)'s timing is not up to par. He always has looked faster on the bags, and from 24/7 it looked like he couldn't handle Mosley speed either from what short clips were shown. I hope he can make it an interesting fight, but I can't see him giving my boy any problems. His punches were thrown technically very well, but he seemed a little off in his timing like I said, and against Mayorga thats ok, but against Mayweather its not.
-
Re: Unless Oscar is way better than he was against Mayorga...
I saw the same thing. The only thing which Oscar might hope for is a big size advantage and being able to use it. I was never sold on Mayorga. I thought his wins over Forrest were stylistically good matches for Mayorga. Mayorga is a good opponent for sharp fighters who want to shake the rust off their fists on Mayorga's face.
-
Re: Unless Oscar is way better than he was against Mayorga...
This is what I'm saying. ODLH looked hella slow against Mayorga and most importantly, his legs didn't look that great. He looked weird moving around the ring and he was EXTREMELY flat footed. He wasn't really bouncing or anything. Not to mention, he hardly threw the jab. I understand that he probably wanted to open up on Mayorga but he really didn't look good at all when you look at the fight from a boxing standpoint and not a fan's standpoint.
-
Re: Unless Oscar is way better than he was against Mayorga...
I think it's fairly hard to take anything from that fight since DLH clearly wanted to sit down on his shots and get Mayorga out of there, which didn't put him at any disadavantage against Ricardo... He is capable of boxing a lot better, but it remains to be seen how much better at this age.... He will definetly need to use every angle he has to land clean on Mayweather which will be very hard for him, but I don't think it's fair to rule him out because he looked slow or flatfooted against Mayorga... I mean it worked fine for that fight.

Mayweather stood in against Gatti, Ndou, Corley, and he never looked like that. I think Ricardo was just throwing wild shots, and he caught Oscar a few times with shots Oscar should have seen comming like that huge uppercut in the third or fourgth round. Oscar was just countering poorly, and he had troubles being able to evade and counter Mayorga punches which forced him to block them with his gloves because ultimately any boxer would prefer to slip the punch then counter, but if he can't get out of the way of Mayorga's punches then he might have no answer for Mayweather's punches.

Re: Unless Oscar is way better than he was against Mayorga...
8) Oscar is much much better wait and see so wakey-wakey that morning so you dont make another huge mistake and know what your taking about after this fight! ! ! 8)
-
Re: Unless Oscar is way better than he was against Mayorga...
Yeah because I haven't gotten a big fight wrong in how long? I actually don't even remember the last big fight I didn't pick the right side on.
-
Re: Unless Oscar is way better than he was against Mayorga...
8) Wow I didn't know that you made some pretty good predictions as of late. So it looks like you just may be right again seems your on a roll.
-
Re: Unless Oscar is way better than he was against Mayorga...
I may be on a roll, but most of the fights lately have been easy to predict. Pacquaio against MOrrales III, Mayweather-Baldomir, Hopkins-Tarver, IMO Peter vs. TOney II, Wright-Taylor(Wright did win), Wright-Quartey, Dawson-Adamek, Maskaev-Rahman(this one was a gut feeling), Kessler vs. he last few opponents, Mundine-Soliman, and many of the other ones the last one I can recall thinking would be closer than it was is Lacy-Calzaghe. I admit I hadn't thought much of Calzaghe and still don't, but I knew Lacy had problems, but I thought he would do a lot better than he did.
-
Re: Unless Oscar is way better than he was against Mayorga...
8) Your right but still on a roll except one fight I disagree on I thought Tony beat Peaters that night! although Peaters got the decission! 8)
-
Re: Unless Oscar is way better than he was against Mayorga...
I'm afraid this fight is gonna be very similiar to ODLH--sweat pea, but I really want oscar to knock his head off just so I can se the reaction on floyds face.

Cotto v Judah

Re: Unless Oscar is way better than he was against Mayorga...
Yes Oscar looked great against Mayorga but lets not forget so did Tito and then look what happend to him vs Wright lets remember how Oscar was against Hopkins and Sturm he looked faded to me he looks great in training but training and fighting are different all together this fight is great because we don't know which Oscar will turn up i still lean towards Mayweather hes a great mover and boxer as was Mosley

Re: Unless Oscar is way better than he was against Mayorga...
Mayorga was made-to- order for him. A wide puncher who cannot beat any elite fighters. Oscar has looked bad in 3 of his last 4 fights.

No one knows how good Mayweather is at 154 yet.

I agree with you completely Jbirdy. Plus Roach isn't a dumb trainer I'm sure, I'm sure he has came up with a good game plan for Oscar now all Oscar has to do is stick to it. But I'm still rooting for my boy Floyd to get the Win.

I've never seen Pavlik fight before. And I don't this is that big of a fight. EIther way I truly don't know him well enough to gauge this fight.
I think Wright will win... He is too active for Hopkins ... it could be close but I see him winning.
I think Hatton wins this one... Castillo had alot of trouble with N'Dou who threw a few combinations, and Castillo looked very drained. I think Hatton is too quick for him.
Kessler vs. Calzaghe: this fighting isn't happening yet we'll see closer to when the time comes.
Cotto vs. Judah: I am guessing Cotto wins, but I could see Judah win this one. Its 60/40 in Cotto's favor for me.

Oh my god. Pavlik vs Miranda is probably the most important and exciting fight that the middleweight division has to offer.
Miranda TKO11 Pavlik
Wright UD12 Hopkins
Hatton UD12 Castillo
Kessler SD12 Calzaghe
Judah KO 4 Cotto ( ;D Upset special)

Re: Unless Oscar is way better than he was against Mayorga...
8) You can write all the names down you want even on Oscars side look at the difference to who he beat and who he lost to big hitters! Mayweather not even close it doesnt compare thats what I see and I have won my fair share of picking who will win there is a bunch to not over look in this one later gator! 8)

Re: Unless Oscar is way better than he was against Mayorga...
It could be this topic or it could just be a bad day, but I' am really questioning my own arguements this morning. :-\
What if todays Oscar is no better than the one we saw in the Mayorga fight?
ok... time to go watch Mayweather v Castillo I again ;D

Re: Unless Oscar is way better than he was against Mayorga...
Icecold, Exactly. That is the key. How Floyd handles 154. By the way, how do you guys put the quotes in and then comment under the quotes.. I have a hard time with this format and i have posted about 300 times or so.

Bah Wright, and Taylor would both beat Miranda without a doubt in my mind. He is very overrated IMO. He sloppy, doesn't have the best chin and he's as slow as a snail.

Yoh Mayweather is comming in pretty much the same size he did against Baldomir he weighs 150 right now and was 149 against Baldomir... there is no reason for me to believe he will try to raise his body weight into the 154 area.
