I am going to be getting one for my home soon.
Are there any brands that are better or worse than others?
How do I know when it's properly inflated?
How high should it be in relation to my head?

A ringside.com brand is very good, and are on sale right now for $29.
You should inflate it until it's just firm, but not hard. you should be able to depress it a bit with little effort. Over-inflating it will result in the seems splitting and it buldging.
The fat part of the bag should be even with your nose...give or take a bit, depending on what you like.
they must have been selling too fast.. the dirty bastards upped the price

you could also look at titleboxing.com. They're name brand is also very good. But I'm on an all-out boycott against them for shit customer servise.

i bought an el cheapo from k-mart! ;D they all serve the same purpose. but i would have bought a decent one if i had the $$$$. cause the fisrt one i got i punched straight if the hook and ripped the stitching lol... i guess im just a cheap skate ;)
Good speed bag how-to video

chris, sorry bud, i hate to differ with you but the super store everlast bags are not as good as what I've linked to. The leather itself is fine, but the seems are not welted, the bag isn't as round, and the rebounds aren't as true. A $29 bag from title or ringside will be better than a $39 bag from Everlast. The gyro thing means pretty much nothing... it's simply marketing.Quote:

Knowing how high to pump it up is pretty easy, pretty much until it get's hard. You can start of pumping it up so you can still press fingers into it slightly, which makes the ball bounce a little bit slower and good if your not that experienced on it. Then when you want to speed it up, just blow it up a little bit more.
Also, you don't have to go big and expensive on the swivel... I had a moulded plastic one that came with my speed bag, but thought a better one would be uhhh better, so I bought the $30 steel one off ringside.com.. After a week I switched back to the plastic one that came with my bag. It was much faster and the bag felt much better with it... I think it's because the swivel is quite compact and leaves the top of the bag close to the platform, making it bounce a lot faster with less path for the swinging.. I've used bags with other swivels but honestly think this is the best one around...

Yeah, well their isn't never that much difference and any would be fine... was just giving a suggestion on different ones as he's setting up his first speed bag thing and my have to pick one at some stage.Quote:

Agreed about the attached thumbs, they get on my nerves something evilQuote:

If I could find an old glove in good shape I'd buy it on the spot. You can only put in so much work to break in these new gloves, but in the end it's better with the older gloves. You want a firm straight wrist, and solid tight fist.
While we're on the subject of complaining about Everlast, can someone give me a good and logical explanation why they shove the packing crystals so far up in to the punching mits that its easier to just let them slowly explode to get them out.
Took me over a year to get all of them out

Is this why I keep bending my thumb backwards sparring - or am I doing something else wrong? Find it very difficult to tuck my thumb into my fist properly wearing gloves.
Someone at Everlast HQ is laughing over this diabolical plan: "We are going to shove this so far into the glove that they'll go mad trying to pick them out. Seriously I haven't had any trouble getting them out. :)Quote:

Its a plot I tells ya,those damned little packets were wedged in to the absolute tips of the fingers
