awesome matchup. When I think about this it is very hard to figure. I would think that David Tua would land the left hook and rock Mercer into a defensive fight and win a decision. I do not think he would knock out Mercer, but he would hit him so hard it would change momentum for Mercer. Mercer had a good chin but Tua is a good puncher who would probably hit Mercer, if not on the chin close enough to get Mercer to back off.

I think Mercer will win simply he is the better all round boxer with a sturdy chin.
He can take the powershots of Tua and fire back

David Tua wins cos Mercer never trained like he should of.
Mercer lost to Holyfield after a long lay-off and that fight got rid of the rust for his next fight against Lennox Lewis.
Mercer vs Bowe should of happened-both US Olympic team mates but Rock Newman wasn't stupid so they never fought.
Tua and Mercer are 2 hard men but in a fight and with their history then I say Tua outworks Ray. Tua also hit's harder while both have great chins.

Wow..tough one...I'm taking Tua with another fight saving late round KO...Mercer would be able to take a lot of rounds with better boxing, but I think he'd slow in the end and be drawn into a slugfest. Tua too heavy handed and better chin would put him away in the 11th.

Tough call for me. Two of my modern favorites going head to head...
I'll go with "Tuaman" although if it were up to me he would be known as "The Terminator" and nothing else.
I always hoped for Tyson Vs. Tua. Something always told me that Tua would blister, bludgeon, pound, pummel, shellac, wallop, and whip Mike Tyson.
And once Tyson's speed was gone it would have surely been a slaughter.

Ray was an all around better fighter. Tua had a great left, power and great chin. But that's pretty much it. Mercer was good enough to neutralize Tua's hook and once he got past that he would have outpointed him in 12. UD

If you're talking a drug-free Mercer in his prime I say he wins. Both had great chins and could hit like mules kick, but Mercer had a little more style. Tua was all bang, if his power couldn't do the trick then nothing could be done. It would definitely be a potential FOTY for me.

I think This would be similar to Bert Cooper vs Ray Mercer but Tua would do better than Cooper but would lose close decision.

This would have been a special fight.
I've often slated Tua for his lack of technical ability, but against Mercer, that would not have been a problem, as Mercer would have engaged in open warfare with him.
I'm inclined to lean towards Mercer, as I feel had a few more tools in the box.
I say Mercer on points.

Yeah David won that match, the judges gave to much credit for the Ibabuchie jab, missing the fact David was picking off most of the shots.. In Ike's defense I will say he caught Tua off guard seizing the first 4 rounds and conditioning the judges to score in his favor, so for David there is no ill will or bad feeling about the match. , Ike’s style remained me of Evander only bigger.
I believe that he would have gone to accomplish great things. .. I was told the punches Ike sustained in that match led to his mental demise as he sustained frontal lobe damage? I sure hope that’s not the case.

It took David by surprise no question . he wasn’t expecting the second coming ! LOL.. Yeah about 2min into the match, you could feel that this guy was different. David likes to get inside and give a slight nudge using the Strong legs , arms and shoulder to lift and push the opponent back, then catch the opposition on the rebound.. only thing was this Ike fellow came right back and said hello ! mirroring the exact move :laugh: .. It was a good highly contested match ! Brought much joy to the fight fan. that’s the most important aspect of it ! 8)

The scores in that fight were whack! I think one judge had it 117-111. Ain't no way it was that wide! A draw would have been decent! It may have lead to an immediate return which would have been great to see. I think Tua would have won a return!!!

Yelp , That is what got my piss hot, Dick Young had his head up his arse ! It was a close match, I felt Tua won by 2 rounds , most everyone I talked too said they felt David won also. It is what it is, You can't undo the past .

In matches like this you really start feeling the ill's days after, sore don't even come close to describe it ! :laugh: you are always going to lose a little something in a match like this , win lose or draw. it taxes the body and the mind in ways that a fighter never really gets that 100% back. it depends on the persons, makeup and durability as to how much he can regain. Each war subtracts something.
What you do is move on , work with what god gives you, be thankful for what you have and make the best of it.

I thought a draw was a fair result Tua was one point ahead going into the 12th round Ike won the 12th and earned himself a draw imo.
The scores in that fight were whack! I think one judge had it 117-111. Ain't no way it was that wide! A draw would have been decent! It may have lead to an immediate return which would have been great to see. I think Tua would have won a return!!!
Yelp , That is what got my piss hot, Dick Young had his head up his a*** ! It was a close match, I felt Tua won by 2 rounds , most everyone I talked too said they felt David won also. It is what it is, You can't undo the past .
I remember your scorecard didn't you have Tua winning the 12th ?? if i remember right Ike won that round clearly earning himself a draw imo but i agree the judges scorecards were way off.

It took David by surprise no question . he wasn’t expecting the second coming ! LOL.. Yeah about 2min into the match, you could feel that this guy was different. David likes to get inside and give a slight nudge using the Strong legs , arms and shoulder to lift and push the opponent back, then catch the opposition on the rebound.. only thing was this Ike fellow came right back and said hello ! mirroring the exact move :laugh: .. It was a good highly contested match ! Brought much joy to the fight fan. that’s the most important aspect of it ! 8)

Agreed, in my 3rd to last fight I was knocked down in the 5th & received a great deal of punishment on the way to winning by 10th round KO. 2 fights & just over 4 months later the ref stopped my last fight in the 10th & I collapse in the corner moments later & was rushed to hospital with a blood clot on my brain! I believe the punishment I took in the other fight had already taken it's toll & had there been medical testing like today I feel I would never have been cleared for that last fight!
