CALZAGHE v TAYLOR in September....
Calzaghe trails Taylor to States to make a rare excursion out of Wales
Calzaghe will make a rare excursion out of Wales
Super middleweight star Joe Calzaghe is heading to Memphis in pursuit of middleweight king Jermain Taylor.
The Welshman, 35, is hoping to secure a super fight with Taylor in September, and will be ringside for the WBC and WBO middleweight champion's next bout.
"My promoter Frank Warren was in the US recently to talk with Taylor's promoter Lou DiBella and they are hopeful something can be done," said Calzaghe.
"I want to make it happen and I will be going to Memphis for Taylor's fight."
Twenty-eight-year-old Little Rock man Taylor, who holds a record of 26-0-1 (17 KOs), defends his titles against Cory Spinks at the Fed-Ex Forum on 19 May.
There's no fracture, relief really is the only word
Calzaghe on his hand injury
"I will be sat at ringside and will tell any of the media in attendance that care to listen how keen I am to face Taylor," said long-reigning WBO super middleweight champion Calzaghe in his column for the South Wales Argus.
"I think this fight would be absolutely huge, rivalling anything in boxing in years, two undefeated champions very rarely get the opportunity to meet one another.
"If 35,000 people came to see me take on Peter Manfredo Jr, just imagine how many would want to see one of the fights of the decade."
Calzaghe, 43-0 (32 KOs), has been boosted by the news that the hand he injured in stopping Manfredo last month is not broken.
"There was a slight fear that a difficult fracture might have been career threatening, but thankfully that isn't the case, a scan confirmed that there is no break," said the Newbridge bruiser.
"It should be healed soon and then I can get back into full training. Relief really is the only word."

Re: CALZAGHE v TAYLOR in September....
Lets hope so even though i would rather see Kessler vs Calzaghe if he can get this fight in USA props to Calzaghe.
-
Re: CALZAGHE v TAYLOR in September....
Thats sentence alone suggests he wants it in Wales...Will Taylor want to come over though?

Well if its in Wales Taylor won't come over he will ask for silly amount this fight would be better in USA.

Don't agree...Joe's to fast and too strong for him ;) It may go the full 12 but i don't see anyway Taylor can beat him really.
Joe beats him in every department imo.
-
Re: CALZAGHE v TAYLOR in September....
Id rather see him fight Kessler kessler is the tougher fight and i think Joe could be trying to avoid Kessler i feel Taylor is easier option
-
Re: CALZAGHE v TAYLOR in September....
he'sthe smaller man too and that imo will be the main reason Joe will hammer him..
-
Re: CALZAGHE v TAYLOR in September....
Taylor is a big middle though he's about 6ft 1inch i bet he would be physically bigger than Calzaghe

JC all the way a boxing lesson just like he gave Lacey ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Joe's 6 ft 1 and regularly comes down from 14 stone so no he wouldn't have any physical advantages at all.
He'll get schooled mate ;)

Joe is 5 foot 11 and has dodgy hands i wouldn't bet money on Calzaghe with those hands.

Re: CALZAGHE v TAYLOR in September....
Calzaghe does not deserve Jermaine Taylor. Neither does Ricky Hatton merit a fight with Mayweather. Both fighters, Calzaghe and Hatton are depending too much on their victories over Lacy and Tsyzu as a means to garnish a payday. I hope Jermaine Taylor and Mayweather are not foolish enough to get used by Calzaghe and Hatton.
There are other much more deserving fighters for both Taylor and Mayweather. For Taylor a rematch with Winky should be the next thing on his list since their first fight was indecisive. For Mayweather, Mosely should be his next fight since Mosely has beaten Vargas (twice) and Callazo.
Calzaghe did not fight Michelschewski when he was in his prime, and now he is trying everyway he can to not fight Mikkel Kessler.
Sorry to say this but I am tired of these Brits. They are trying very hard to muscle in on the fame, the prestige and the wealth of American fighters by doing the bare minimum in the sport.
Imagine Jermaine Taylor had to fight Hopkins (twice), then Winky Wright, then Kassim Ouma, now Spinks, and then to have an undeserving Calzaghe at the end of this ridiculously hard stretch of fights. Whilst all that Calzaghe has to do is sit on his behind and fight the likes of Manfredo and duck Kessler.

Re: CALZAGHE v TAYLOR in September....
I would prefer the Kessler bout but it would still be a huge fight. Is Taylor really considering going up to SMW though? Middleweight is his for keeps at the moment.
All I can say is fingers crossed!
-
Re: CALZAGHE v TAYLOR in September....
Taylor is still an high risk fight he could beat Calzaghe he's been mixing in a higher class

Of course its a risk. Calzaghe injures himself every second fight and this hardly Manfredo or Ashira.
It would be a good fight...certainly a step in the right path!!

Agree 100%, Calzaghe SHOULD be fight Kessler, but we all know that will never happen.
This is a much better choice than Warren's post-Lacy choices, and it's a good way for
Taylor to move-up. I think Taylor should fight Kessler cause he's the Super-Champion lol

..............................Eh ? WTF are you blubbing on about ?
Didn't fight Michealzweski ? Darius was having life and death with the likes of Richard Hall and Montell Griffin so be quiet .
Can you please explain how Calzaghe is avoiding Kessler and how he avoided Michealzweski ?
Enough of that unpleasentness .
Calzaghe will beat Taylor , Taylor fights in spurts and will lose on points to JC Superstar the superstar hero of Boxing .

Re: CALZAGHE v TAYLOR in September....
Calzhage and his handlers are selling wolf tickets, this fight will never occur.
-
Re: CALZAGHE v TAYLOR in September....
Dont like it!!! It would be a replay of the Lacey fight except that Taylor doesnt like to come forward anymore. Ouma and Wright backed him up, Taylor will be running out of the ring against Joe.
It doesnt seem like Joe even wants to fight Kessler.
-
Re: CALZAGHE v TAYLOR in September....
How does Jermaine Taylor, who has fought Hopkins twice and Wright once in his last five fights (counting Spinks), get a rash of shit for fighting two junior middleweights (Ouma and Spinks), but Joe "I'm not ducking Kessler" Calzaghe (I'm not even going to mention his recent choice of opposition, but we all know its a joke), get lauded and praised for trying to make a fight with Taylor, who is in a lower division??
I don't believe any of the bullshit that Taylor would be a bigger drawn, make more money etc. because there is a huge buzz for a Calzaghe-Kessler fight and JT doesn't seem to be that big of a draw.
I'm not a fan of JT or of Calzaghe, but it doesn't seem right that Taylor, who has recently fought much tougher opposition that Calzaghe, is ripped apart for fighting guys from lower weight-classes and is ducking nobody (Wright - one of my favorite fighters - screwed himself out of a rematch), and Calzaghe, who is ducking Kessler, is praised for trying to fight JT.
The only fight I want to see involving Calzaghe is with Kessler.

After reading BigMix's post i honestly thought i wouldn't read a post more stupid than that - then tysonburno comes along and proves me wrong.
Lets be honest though, Taylor is a middle weight and it would be nice for joe and kessler to sort thier shit out. But Kessler was offered the fight and they refused it. They were the ones who went looking for Hopkins and Taylor not so long ago as well....
Calzaghe not deserving this? You are smoking crack if you think that. He has domonated his devison for around 10 years, he has damn sure beaten better fightrs than Taylor too, Brewer was a damn site better than taylor and would of taken him apart, Lacy would of made it one hell of a close fight and maybe scoring a KO/TKO
And the shit about Taylor having all these 'hard fights' is fucking helerious too. After he fights spink you know his last 3 fights would of been agaisnt Super welters-weights? Ouma was hand picked for Taylor to be able to KO to build up some excitment about him... but that plan went tits up, it was hard coz Taylor got lazy. Spinks is no threat and only will be again if Taylor gets Lazy and carless... again down to him, otherwise an easy night. Hopkins, he was in there with a very experienced guy, but look at the fight - it was hardly draining was it?
Seriously tho, whats this shit about 'Cashing in' looking for a payday? he fights in Wales and brings in 35,000 people and prolly pocketed a shit load from that - Normally when people say he is 'Cashing in' or 'Looking for a payday' they are talking about a guy whos going in to lose? So if you are claiming Calzaghe wil lose and only wnats a check then you really are thicker than i thought, because he is hardly going to make a Oscar De la hoya or a mayweather pay check form fighting Taylor, and losing would make him earn fuck all in future fights either...
But if you think Calzaghe can win, then whats your point? Taylor is an undisputed champion at 8 pound slower, is Taller and standing beside eachother most likely will be the bigger guy - He has said since the hopkins fights that it is very hard for him to fight at middleweight, that he was looking to move up to super-middle, and even spoke before about fighting Joe.
The funny thing is though, you 2 muppets who accuse him of ducking kessler prolly have taylor ranked up high in the P4P rankings whislt kessler isn't even in the top 10? And don;t give me the shit about the fact Taylor is a Mw, refer to the above paragraph if you do ;)
When it is all said and done, years from now people talk about boxers, they will bring up things about how calzaghe beat taylor - yet he beats kessler, no one will really give a shit after the hype has died down, they do need to fight but Taylor is the best choice in every single way.
-
Re: CALZAGHE v TAYLOR in September....
Why would you not want to see 2 top 10 P4P fighters fight each other?!?? This fight and the Kessler fight were the ones most fight fans wanted to see JC take,so if it happens, good on him. And I'll go on record right now and say JC wins.
-
Re: CALZAGHE v TAYLOR in September....
I'd actually prefer this to a Kessler fight. No one can dismiss Taylor as unproven -- he's been in with better men than Calzaghe already. If Joe beat Kessler, everyone would just say Kessler was another unproven Lacy. No one can say that about Taylor.
Skills aside, I think Joe's hands will be his downfall though. If he can't go a round of landing arm-punches on Manfredo's gloves without injuring himself, I don't see how he goes 12 with Taylor (because Joe's not going to knock him out).
-

Re: CALZAGHE v TAYLOR in September....
Calzaghe vs Taylor would be loads different to Calzaghe vs Lacy Lacy just plodded forward giving Calzaghe free range to hit him Taylor would'nt infact i would prob favour Taylor to win as he has mixed in better company

1. It is easy to price yourself out of a fight and say that you made an offer. The last thing I heard was that the offer proposed by Calzaghe was close to being dung. Did Calzaghe know that his offer would have been rejected? Yes. We can only conclude that he really did not want the fight.
2. Here are Jermaine Taylor's recent fights. { Hopkins, Hopkins, Wright, Ouma} That is the most difficult quartet of fighters a fighter could face one after the other. Now show me such a quartet of fighters that Calzaghe has faced back to back. After that, then you can say with credence that Calzaghe deserves a shot at Taylor. And let us not forget that Taylor is 28, Calzaghe is 35 years old and had a far longer time to accomplish such a feat and all he did was wallow away in Britain using his hometown advantage. Let us get real here.
Calzaghe needs to be a courageous man and create his own fame and prestige instead of trying to pimp and steal what Jermaine Taylor worked his @ss off for at a young age.
Now that Calzaghe realize that he is getting up in years he is hurrying to jump on Taylor and Hopkins. If Calzaghe was serious about boxing and his status, he would have been in the USA since the 90's like Lennox Lewis doing his thing and waiting patiently.
Roy Jones performed great exploits at 160, 168, 175, even moving up to heavyweight before a hungry Tarver cut him down.
Hopkins dominated everybody at 160, moved up to 175 and cut down Tarver.
Trinidad beat up everyone at 147, moved up to 154 conquered Vargas, moved up to 160 dominated Joppy, Cherifi and Mayorga but was conquered by Hopkins and Winky.
Oscar fought from 130 won belts all the way to 154 and challenged Hopkins before he got cut down.
Mosely jumped from 135 to 147 beating many in his way, losing some winning some, eventually running into Winky whom he fought twice and lost, moved down back to fight Callazo.
Mayweather dominated Corrales at 130, fought Castillo twice at 135, took on Gatti at 140, Judah and Baldomir at 147, then took on Oscar at 154
The above are just some of the VISIONARY, DARING AND BOLD work done by American boxers.
And we haven't seen anything like that from Calzaghe or Hatton, and yet these two Brits want to garnish paydays against Taylor and Mayweather.
This is not an indictment against the talent of Calzaghe or Hatton, they are very talented and exceptional fighters. But this is as to whether they merit a major payday against Taylor and Mayweather. The answer is given their body of work and how they approached the sport by primarily hiding on their home turf, THEY DO NOT DESERVE IT.
Even Manny Pacqiaou flies in till from the Phillipines and fights, Marquez, Barrera and Morales without pricing himself out, and yet you are telling me that Calzaghe if he wants cannot make a fight with Kessler. Pulease.

Taylor gets a beating at the hands of Joe Calzaghe.

Re: CALZAGHE v TAYLOR in September....
Well I wanted to see Calzaghe and Kessler. But if Calzaghe steps in the ring with Taylor instead, thats fine by me as long its not a new manFRODO ;D .
But where does this leave Kessler. Mundine has been taken, I think Team palle will look towards RJJ in US would heat the ring even more for a Calzaghe-Kessler showndown later on. One things is for sure it all about the little green stuff
