Why do people choose to ride bikes?
Why do people choose to ride bikes?
I rode as a kid and I lost control.
My best friend was on the back and when I lost control I jumped off and he was left on the back still hanging on to the seat strap as the bike slid down street. He was scrapped up pretty bad and the entire left side of his leg and arm were tore up. It was just nasty.
I never rode again. I have jumped on the back but never me at the controls.
How do you guys feel about ridding?
I know JT_Rock AKA Soprano Jr rides.
I think it is more dangerous now than it was before. More people = more traffic and that it make's even more risky IMO. Plus bikes have too much speed these days.
Yea, I know. I am still on the Corrales trip.
I guess this affects me because I had a friend who ran into a wall doing about 100 and of course he was killed instantly. I have always hated bikes. I guess there is sort of a love hate thing.

I hope it does make you think.
To me bikes are dangerous.
I almost hit one on the freeway :( a few years ago. I consider myself a decent safe driver and very alert. This guy came out of no where flying like a bat out of hell just as I was about to cross over to the right lane. I was so thankfull that I did not hit him but it was so damn close. That is another experience I will never forget.

Re: Why do people choose to ride bikes?
Living in Wales we always get the double plague on our roads every bank holiday, and every weekend in the summer, which is motorbikes and caravans. Caravans just slow the whole roads down, but bikes are always the ones getting into real trouble. Just about every weekend in the summer you'll read on the news about some guy in their 40s or 50s from Birmingham, Manchester or Liverpool who came down to Wales to tear about on their big shiny new bikes, and end up not able to control the power and hit walls and overcook it in corners.
If the learning courses for these things were better, then maybe there'd be less crashes, but I feel that the temptation and thrill of riding a motorbike very fast will always be there for some people. I don't ride myself, but am currently considering it to save cash on the fuel of driving a car.

Re: Why do people choose to ride bikes?
its the closest thing we can get to freedom. Its a great feeling, its like your flying. Its quite peaceful. There is nothing like it.
I ride, have for awhile. It is dangerous, you have no walls to protect you like in a car, no airbags, seatbelts..Nothin except a helmet. Sometimes people lose respect for the machine, and then the machine reminds you how much respect it deserves. Whether its the rider, or someone in a car. I miss diego already, just knowing that i wont be able to see him give it his all anymore, knowing that he had alittle one on the way, and that his family wont have him leaves me with a heavy heart. Its to bad. 29years old is way to young. it really is sad.

Re: Why do people choose to ride bikes?
Nobody can really blame a bike for an accident, its always human error i guess. I still can't believe chico is gone, I'm sure he wouldn't want anyone blaming the bike for what happen. It was a fatal accident, us fans lost a modern warrior. And Chico never blame anything for his lose so lets not blame a bike. Lets remember how chico lived, Not how he died...

Re: Why do people choose to ride bikes?
It's not the bikes it's the loony drivers of cars & bikes
-
Re: Why do people choose to ride bikes?
Thats a bit like saying "Why do peolpe box?".
Danger=Fun for some people.
There is also a saying "taste death, live life"
Some people push that to far with bad results.
-
Re: Why do people choose to ride bikes?
i think bikes are really hard to control in comparison with a car in my opinion especially at speed they slip easy on wet or loose surfaces and are just basically dangerous i think
i can see the thrill in it though
-
Re: Why do people choose to ride bikes?
I knew a girl whose brother came off an exit ramp going at a high speed and ran into the back of a streetsweeper. It was around 2 am when it happened so I guess he assumed the roads would be empty.
I've never cared for motorcycles. When I was a kid I had a minibike but as I grew older I grew more scared of bikes instead of less.

Not just the loony drivers, but those who are driving while doing a dozen other things besides concentrating on driving. I've been riding for 40 years and, fortunately, have never had an accident. With bikes, it's defensive driving, I see someone signalling to turn left from the oncoming lane or pulling out of a side street I always prepare myself for the probability they might turn in front of me or pull out in front of me. Before anyone lectures me on the dangers of riding a bike I once did CPR on a woman who hit a car head on. She had a fractured skull, broken neck, leg broken in about 9 places we revived her, but she died two days later. I also did CPR on a female passenger who was riding on a bike when some old guy pulled out of a side street. The bike went under the car and she was killed. Every time I saw something like this I had second thoughts about ever riding again.

Re: Why do people choose to ride bikes?
i've had way too many accidents when i was a kid to even consider riding a motorcycle. Fuck i haven't even mastered walking yet :-\
-
Re: Why do people choose to ride bikes?
Coralles wasnt riding responsibly at the time. Accedents do happen and this was an accident but it could have been prevented had he not been riding over 100 mph. A lot of motorcycle deaths could have been prevented, and this is one of those sad cases.
-
Re: Why do people choose to ride bikes?
thought it would be another mayweather thread cuz of the title of riding bikes.
-
Re: Why do people choose to ride bikes?
I did ride. Having children put a stop to that. With the power to weight ratio of modern sports bikes and even some of the Harley's ATM, it is very easy for a rider to put themselves in a situation where the level of ability required to control a situation goes way beyond the skill level of the rider. This often results in problems and accidents. Riding bikes can be great fun, but just as with boxing there can be a high level of risk associated with it and people must take on training to ensure they are equipped with the skills necessary to avoid putting themselves at great risk. With boxing there will usually be someone there to tell you that you're not ready to fight at a particular level yet so you can't. You must train more and and prove yourself first. There is no-one in a persons garage telling them that when they start up their bike though.

Re: Why do people choose to ride bikes?
8)The secition I read said the poilce really didnt know how fast Diego was going. I do think he was going at a high rate of speed myself. It seems he wasn't an experenced motercycle driver and had just bought that bike. Also seems he hit his front brakes and not the back first most riders when in that possion hit them both together. But if he was going over 100 miles per hour he would have had to hit those brakes with enough time not at the last few seconds. He flew 95 feet and got hit by on coming traffic he was moving no doubt! All I can say is Rest In Peace Diego Corrales I will miss you and seeing you in that ring! You are and always will be a true champion!

Re: Why do people choose to ride bikes?
I've personally pushed the motor up through the tank of a kawasaki 750 triple (two stroke 750) in the early 80's.
Interseting day, (not my bike). we did a whole loop the loop in the air and crunch and flip ,took a piece out my lower spine as we hit. Miracle I can still walk etc with no pain and no op, it has naturally fused itself.
That was it for me,other than a quick burst occasionally but what life without its risks ???

Re: Why do people choose to ride bikes?
personally ive seen too many serious injurys and deaths due to motorcycles so i personally try my best to stay away myself, but ill do some light stunt work with a motorcycle time to time.(SAG rate for riding a motorcycle at a normal speed down a street for a movie scene is usually about a $1,000 a day! ;))

Re: Why do people choose to ride bikes?
its the feeling of freedom it gives you, no radio na AC just you your bike and the road. you can take almost any terrain any road you wish. ride fast then sing on the top of your lungs. everything is tripled in sensation, a simple breeze becomes a whirlwind when your riding, a drizzle of rain becomes a storm. the feel of the pavement rumbling beneath your feet.
if you havent been on a motorcycle then you wont grasp my explanation.

most states have strict helmet laws as they do seat belt laws.
but if your a GLAM ROCK STAR from the 80's like AXL ROSE you are redeemed from obeying those laws ;)

Re: Why do people choose to ride bikes?
My cousin is still on crutches from a broken femur and he did that in August 05' when he came off his Ninja. Crazy bastard, and he still talks about getting back on, even though he was in intensive care for 3 days, I think he's fucking crazy. I hate bikes, I was on one for about 10 minutes and I came off and I've got the scars to prove it. I had to have gravel removed from my elbow, I hate bikes.

There is danger in many things that are exciting, and tht comes from the fact that there is danger in that activity. One of the things I enjoy doing is mountain biking, but I realise my limits and I (try) to stay within those. A relative of mine broke his arm in three places after a big crash, and I've had plenty of big offs myself, but at the end of the day if you love it then you will get back on. To some extent, the same could be said for boxing, it ain't exactly tickling each other with feathers is it? Motorbikes are just one of hundreds of things that people do that can be dangerous, and at the end of the day, we live for the highs in life....not for doing the washing up on a gloomy sunday afternoon.

CC good call. I still ride moutain bikes, or one anyway. I'm lucky to live in an area that has great riding. I don't ride motorbikes anymore but i did, and will again but have been riding since I was 10. I have always ridden mountain bikes - even before they were known as such, and before that BMX bikes. I box a little at the moment but have since i was 15. I have had a lot of experience and a fair bit of training at all these sports from people who are much better than me and that has kept me relatively unscathed. These sports all present a risk and have all injured me in some way because that is the nature of these kinds of sports. I dont race a drag car because i dont know how. I dont cliff dive because i dont know how. I don't surf big waves because I dont know how. But if I did know how I probably would. Because as it was said so well "Motorbikes are just one of hundreds of things that people do that can be dangerous, and at the end of the day, we live for the highs in life....not for doing the washing up on a gloomy sunday afternoon."

Re: Why do people choose to ride bikes?
i have a car, motorbike and a bicycle and between the three i like the bicycle the most because of the reason i get to exercise while still enjoying livelier views unlike the thread mill where I can't go anywhere and boring me as hell. i still prefer bikes, i just use my car when the place is too far already and when the occasion doesn't permit using bikes too.

Re: Why do people choose to ride bikes?

Hahaha!!! Funny thing is I am 100% Irish and have NEVER watched an episode of the Sopranos ;D
Anyway yes I ride.... The thing I always remember before I leave the drive way is..... I owe it to my Family, Girlfriend, friends and myself to do everything in my control to come home safe after a ride......
I own a Harley Davidson Softail. Which is a cruiser... I always pay attention and anticipate what other motorists are gonna do while they wait to turn onto the road. I just strive to drive responsibly and enjoy the class, rumble and noise a Harley Davidson brings.... I dont do wheelies, I dont drive crazy weaving in and out of traffic or passing unsafely like most people who have crotch rockets...
Also somepeople dont belong on Motorcycles, they lack the proper judgement, awareness and coordination... My father has been riding for years and others in the family so its in my blood and is like second nature to me when I get on....

Italian or not, you remind me of a would be young Tony Soprano when you are dressed up and wearing a tie and sitting in that booth at that fancy restaurant with your family.
And yes I know what kind of bike you have. You don't have to own a crotch rocket to get run over or fall off.
Sorry, I did not mean to intrude.

No worries ;) I know what you mean, its just alot of accidents occur with the speed bikes since you are more tempted to screw around and drive fast....... Being able to accelerate like that is very empowering as you know.. But bottom line is you cant control what anyone does only yourself, so if you ride responsibly you lesson your exposure to tragedy on a motorcycle

Bikes are more dangerous then some cars imo.
I've never controlled a bike only been on the back and that was when I was young, and most everyone that I know thats had a bike has gotten in some sort of accident :(
So I wouldn't do it unless they created a bike with some sort of all around protection and not just a small windowscreen in front(if even that) some sort of safer way. An air bag.. anything!!!!

Now that reminds me of a story I heard over seas .
A fellow was riding a four stroke bike cruising through Africa up a dirt road and got the hairs on the back of his neck go up. HE turned around to see a lion chasing him and had to gun it and out run it.
Apparently they are attracted to that hum of a four stroke.
By the way never carry or worse eat oranges out there either Elephants will come at you for miles around for those.
