IBA approves '10 Round' Title fights
IBA approves '10 Round' Title fights
www.ibamensboxing.com
Following a brief trial period the International Boxing Association has approved title fights to be contested over a distance of ten rounds. The new ten round distance has received the blessing of A.B.C. President Tim Lueckenhoff and will include our current 'Continental' and "America's' title classification as well as our soon to be announced 'Asia & Pacific Region' and 'Europe & Africa' titles. The choice of staging either a ten round title fight or a twelve round title fight shall be the choice of the promoter of a sanctioned IBA event. World title fights will continue to be
contested over twelve championship rounds.

Well let's not tell John Duddy and Yuri Boy Campas that because they faught a war over that vacant IBA middleweight title back in Sept of 2006.
Re: IBA approves '10 Round' Title fights
Yeah for the most part I agree P4P. It is probably an effort to get some IBA title fights on networks like Versus and ESPN who work on time slots.
Re: IBA approves '10 Round' Title fights
Lets not forget Bernard Hopkins. He holds the IBA Light Heavyweight title and the Ring light heavyweight title, least I think he does. Wonder if him and Winky will now only fight 10 rounds? ;D ???
Re: IBA approves '10 Round' Title fights
Hopkins has the IBO. Not exactly the most prestigous belt but yeah ;D

CC. My bad. I knew it was one or the other, so I went for it and said IBA. Damn it! ;D
Re: IBA approves '10 Round' Title fights
CC returned. I saw that the other day, and I thought I would have figured Tarver had a bigger belt then that having beat Johnson in the rematch. But I guess not. I wonder where Roy's 123242 title's got dispersed to.

Doesn't matter if it was a good fight... Neither guy had done anything to deserve being called a world champion or fight for a world title.

The belts got divided up among Zolt Erdei, Clinton Woods and Chad Dawson. It's BS, but thats boxing. ::**

actually its very good news because their minor titles are now fewer rounds than their world titles meaning that they are now on seperate levels of importance (or unimportance however you view the iba). It's making a big problem with the abc belts slightly less of a problem.

I agree with you Punisher. This at least makes a definite seperation between the types of belts, putting more emphasis on the world title belts.
Re: IBA approves '10 Round' Title fights
IB Who?
Just another step in making their titles mean even less than any other belt they can possibly think of. Rumour has it that I will be making my debut against Tim Witherspoon for the IBA heavyweight title. Indeed, I'm asking them if we can do it over 8 rounds.
Re: IBA approves '10 Round' Title fights
i think the biggest step they could make in the right direction is making all ring title fights 15 rounds.
