Fights that could have been even better had they gone 15 rounds instead of 12?
Some suggestions
Barrera: Marquez
Hopkins: Taylor 1
DLH: Mayweather
What other fights could make the list
Barrera: Marquez was so close. Hopkins was pressing in the championship rounds to make up an early deficit. Perahaps Mayweather would have dominated Oscar towards the end with no room for disagreeing Oscar fans?

Here's a few...  I took your first two, Miles ;)
-Hopkins -Taylor:  Just the first one as JT had pulled well ahead in the second bout.
-Oscar -Mayweathe:  I think Oscar won the 12th and hurt Mayweather with the late barrage.
-Ivan Robinson -Arturo Gatti (fight #1):  Nothing needs to be said
-Paulie Ayala -Johnny Tapia (fight #1):  Please see above
-Micky Ward -Emanuel Burton:  I know it was only 10 rounds! I'd watch 5 more rounds of that!

Damn good topic. There are so many that it's hard to focus on just one. I think about it during every 12 rounder where the fighters are dropdead tired. What the hell would they do if you tacked on the extra 3?
I think fighters would be in much better shape than they are now. The heavies in particular.

Exactly. Its about fights that are quite close and are not quite resolved.
The DLH: Trinidad fight is a perfect case in point

Man, this is a great thread... It's irritating me that non of the usuals are signed on right now to put in their two cents(or three)... Make sure this gets bumped to the top during the peak hours...

Re: Fights that could have been even better had they gone 15 rounds instead of 1
I know they stopped the 15 rounders because of the health risks but personally I think the return of 15 round fights would be the best possible thing to rejuvinate the sport.
12 3 minute rounds just isn't enough to truly seperate top level fighters. We never get to see fighters dig deep and put it all on the line any more.
All championship fights should be 15 rounds imo.

I agree, Baggins! They must be able to throw them back in there in some regards... Like for a unification... 15 rounds

Re: Fights that could have been even better had they gone 15 rounds instead of 12?
They have proven that pretty much all the deaths even in 15 round fights occur in the fights that are stopped within 12 rounds. There were virtually no deaths in fights that went 13 or more rounds...

In the last 20 seconds of the fight Oscar landed a crisp shot that wipe the smirk off his face... He didn't stager him or anything... Not even close but it was a "How do you do"!

To be honest Coralles has proven that boxing warriors are just as likely to die outside the ring as in it anyway.
They really should bring back 15 round title fights for the proper titles.
It would totally revitalise the sport. Imagine the excitement it would generate if the next big heavyweight clash, lets say Wlad vs Peter in a rematch was scheduled for 15 rounds. It would make the fight so intriguing.
