Glen Johnson vs Montell Griffin, anyone give Griffin a chance?
Johnson is gonna fight Griffin on Wenesday night fights soon. So anybody give Griffin a shot? I think "Ice" is pretty much melted these days and will melt under Johnson's pressure inside the distance. All Montell can do these days it seems is jab and clinch. So basically why is this fight even happenin, and do you give Griffin much of a chance?

Re: Glen Johnson vs Montell Griffin, anyone give Griffin a chance?
Not really no .
Glen evidently is on the slope . The rematches with Tarver and Woods proved that but I still think he has enough in the tank to see off a faded Griffin . Both these men have beaten Jones which nobody would believe if they had been told back in Jones' super middleweight days

Not really bro i think Johnson will take him apart.

Re: Glen Johnson vs Montell Griffin, anyone give Griffin a chance?
yea both of these men are past it fo sho.
will glen johnson be as aggressive and coming forward nonstop?
-
Re: Glen Johnson vs Montell Griffin, anyone give Griffin a chance?
Montell burned his body out. When a guy that small fights at any weight, he has a small window of opportunity.

Re: Glen Johnson vs Montell Griffin, anyone give Griffin a chance?

YYeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!

Re: Glen Johnson vs Montell Griffin, anyone give Griffin a chance?
...you never know with Montel he's usually GREAT against average or decent opposition and then he sucks vs the top level guys

I have not seen Montell Griffin look GREAT in a long time man.
-
Re: Glen Johnson vs Montell Griffin, anyone give Griffin a chance?
....that's very true
But hell he whipped James Toney.......that was probably over 10 years ago though
-
Re: Glen Johnson vs Montell Griffin, anyone give Griffin a chance?

Well, I got the fight, and he narrowly outpointed James Toney in a close, good fight, 12 years ago.

Rico Hoye ??? He looked like a prime Ice Griffin then.
I think he beats Johnson via decision
-
Re: Glen Johnson vs Montell Griffin, anyone give Griffin a chance?
Both these guys fought everyone in their era and theve finally crossed paths, but the outcome will be defferent now than it would be then. Either way, I like both guys, Johnson especially cause hes a true warrior and a aggressive style, but Griffin is a very crafty fighter and as good skills. I think he will still give Johnson all kinds of problems but Johnson will still press foward. I think Glen will throw more and be the aggressor but Griffing will land less at a better percentage. It could be a tough fight to score.

Don't say "via" that just sounds stupid. ;D And the way I remember it, Montell jabbed and clinched his way thru that fight and barely outpointed Hoye in a boring fight, then got robbed.

Johnson all the way, it's been nothing but hell for Griffin ever since he caught that right hand from RJJ, I am surprised he is still fighting, but you cant take the warrior out of the fighter.
-
Re: **Prediction comp** We have a Wednesday fight
Give this thread some love.
-
Re: **Prediction comp** We have a Wednesday fight
I thought Montell Griffin was the guy who did that song "This is how we do it" ;D J/K Seems like Griffin finds a way to lose against quality opponents, the only big win was that DQ crap against RJJ. Then Roy came back and knocked him out in the first...Glen Johnson is solid as a rock even at his age. KO for Johnson.

Not true. He did have two big victories against James Toney which were roberies, that's his highlight.
-
Re: **Prediction comp** We have a Wednesday fight
Just watched the First fight between RJJ and Griffin, Roy hit him about 2 seconds after he was down, it kind of looked like Griffin knew he could not make it up and get the dq. Secong fight Roy stalked him like Griffin just killed his whole family...that leaping hook was beautiful. Griffin got up then tried to slide into second base ;) I didnt know about those two wins over Toney. I still think he is gonna get k.o.'d

That was so long ago over 10 years i believe them performances have nothing to do with this fight because he has gone downhill since then

Re: **Prediction comp** We have a Wednesday fight
Noticed Joel Julio is on the card as well, I like this guy hes solid. Could be a contender soon.
-
Re: **Prediction comp** We have a Wednesday fight
This kid Joe Green is pretty impressive, he has some decent power. Mean is a good nickname for him, he seems to throw his punches with bad intentions ;)
-
Wednesday Night Fights: Johnson - Griffin
This is a good card, top prospect Joe Greene is facing his toughest test yet and he's doing well against a seasoned guy. He needs to go to the body a bit more but this is a good showing for him, very calm. Joel Julio boxes next.
-
Re: Wednesday Night Fights: Johnson - Griffin
Joe Greene won on the cards. It was a good test the person in front of him was VERY game, and he even backed up Greene a lot and was even able to pick off Greene coming forward a few times. Greene did good work with the straight left though and his opponent wasn't able to land anything, Greene slips punches very well.
Joel Julio is up now.

Joel Julio fighting now. ESPN 2

Re: Wednesday Night Fights: Johnson - Griffin
Julio put him down twice within the last 30 seconds and his opponent didn't get up the second time. I know you can't tell much but his opponent had very fast hands and he slipped punches very well. It was the uppercut on the inside that knocked him down the first time. The second time Julio had Lucero on the ropes, and Julio's jab makes that powerful right hand SO much better. He didn't lead with it one single time and he used to lead with it 10 times a round before.
He's been working with Whitaker and Breland and it shows, the jab looks very good on him. That was a huge improvement after what I think was a lackluster outing his last time out. He showed no improvement, he showed lots tonight.

I don't like Joe Greene.  Sloppy puncher; Wild hooker.

And he's not fighting anymore ;D

I really did not think so. I thought his best weapon was his straight left. His right hook I would want him to stop leading with because it's just not effective, but I didn't think he was wild at all.

Re: Wednesday Night Fights: Johnson - Griffin
Johnson - Griffin starts in a minute. Let's go Johnson but I like both guys but Johnson is my joker.
