Big Trouble in Camp Cotto (HELP!)
I read in another article that uncle Evangelista Cotto won't be training any Cotto anymore. He will stay with the youth.
The Cotto’s Family Feud!
12.05.07 - By Eddie Velez: Friday night was supposed to be a shining moment for the Cotto Family. Jose Miguel Cotto was fighting for the vacant WBA lightweight title against Prawet Singwangcha; Younger brother Miguel Cotto was Co-Promoting his first nationally televised card. The shining moment never came and the night turned into a bad episode of Jerry Springer.
As the telecast began everything seemed to be going well for the Cotto family; they had a decent crowd on hand and the co-main event was a good fight between Jose Reyes and Javier Jauregui. At the start of the Cotto and Singwangcha fight, the first few rounds were dominated by Cotto, while his brother was fighting Miguel Cotto was being interview by the Tetefutura team and was pretty satisfied with what was transpiring.
During the end of the 6th round Singwangcha seem to have even up the contest and was starting to take control of the fight. Both fighters seem to be tiring due to the extreme heat in the arena. In an effort to re-energize/motive his fighter Evangelista Cotto trainer and uncle of both brothers began throwing water in the face of Jose Cotto during the rest period of the 8th round.
Jose Cotto, taking a page out of the Mayweather’s family playbook, began arguing with his uncle/trainer pushing him away. The 9th round began with an angry Cotto trying to knock out Singwangcha. The Thai fighter kept his cool and stuck to his game plan. When the 9th round ended, things went from bad to worst. Jose Cotto refused to return to his corner and walked back and forth in the ring. As the minute rest period ticked away, Cotto return to his corner, only to be greeted by an extremely upset Uncle.
The fighter and trainer began arguing and getting physical with one another provoking Miguel Cotto to jump onto to apron and grab his brother by the back of the neck in an attempt to clam his brother down. With the commence of the 10th round, a confused Jose Cotto went into survival mode while another fight was breaking out between Miguel Cotto and his uncle.
The cameras turn to the commotion outside of the ring and capture several people separating the uncle and nephew. As the 10th round ended Evangelista Cotto called it a night and sat on the sidelines while Miguel Diaz took over with another assistant. By then Jose Cotto was so mentally drain that I don’t think he even remembers the final two rounds in which he barely did anything other then survive to hear the final bell.
When the decision was announce two of the judges gave Jose Cotto an early Christmas gift and scored it 114 – 114 while the other judge scored 117 – 111. Prawet Singwangcha proved to be a very good fighter and hopefully gets another shot at a belt. As far as Jose Cotto goes he announced his retirement from boxing. He has had several incidents going back to his amateur days and throughout his career and has showed a very poor attitude. His actions were truly a disgrace to all the fans that paid to watch the fight and to the sport of boxing.
The million dollar question is how will this affect Miguel Cotto who has the most important fight of his career in less then a month from now. Does he stick with a trainer who has been with him since day one or does he change trainers? Will this family drama affect him negatively in the ring? The boxing world awaits the fallout from the Cotto’s Family Feud.

Re: Big Trouble in Camp Cotto (HELP!)
You know, Mick talked about how when he saw Jose, something was missing. He couldn't put his finger on it but I'd say good call Mick because it looks like he called it.
It's 3 weeks out, I'm not sure how important Uncle Cotto is to Miguel, but did I read that right that someone else will be his cornerman? Damn...

From the 1st time I ever saw Jose fight I just didn't see any hunger any desire in him anything that seperated him from his oppponents.....
Till this day I still don't... Wouldn't surprise me if he called it quits anytime soon....

singwangcha > cotto 2 x infinity

Please, enough of the talking in equations, my head is full enough with algebra equations as it is with exams coming up.
Re: Big Trouble in Camp Cotto (HELP!)
I will post the video of the feud in a little while.
There is still no news as to wether or not Evangelista Cotto will or will not be training his nephew Miguel Cotto.
Evangelista Cotto attacked Miguel ringside. The footage was not shown but the commentators said it was a brutal attack on the part of Evangelista Cotto. This may or may not change their relationship. We will just have to wait and see.
Jose Cotto is garbage. He can't take his uncle's criticism? A little water being thrown at his face and he goes 5 year old? His problem is that he is living in his brother's shadow. This kid just might have screwed things up for his brother Miguel.
Re: Big Trouble in Camp Cotto (HELP!)
Ok, here is the video footage of what occurred.

End of the 9th. Jose Cotto was already reluctant to go to his corner and Evangelista has the sponge ready. We don't get to see Evangelista throwing the water but we do see Jose going off to the other side of the ring. Once he comes back, shiet hit's the fan.
Re: Big Trouble in Camp Cotto (HELP!)
WHOA!!! When Miguel jumped up to grab his brothers neck to calm him down did you see Jose elbow his father in the gut?

Uncle. Not father. If that would of been his father I am sure everyone in that corner would have jumped Jose, including Miguel.
I think they should have jumped Jose anyway.
Re: Big Trouble in Camp Cotto (HELP!)
Well...at least Miguel tried to maintain some degree of professionalism, it's a shame Jose had to air out their problems like that.
Evangalista attacked Miguel? Why?

Thanks CC!
Still, why did Jose go off like that ??? I doubt he would have been in more trouble then in the diaz fight.
He just snapped huh ???
No reason to elbow your own Uncle though. Why did the Uncle attack Miguel? Did they say something? Jose was saying something to one of them at ringside before Miguel had to be restrained.
I think its very lucky they(Cotto an Judah) aren't fighting next week and they(The Cottos) have about 2 or 3 weeks to solve this.
Re: Big Trouble in Camp Cotto (HELP!)
Jose should retire what a distasteful act.
Re: Big Trouble in Camp Cotto (HELP!)
I still do not get why Evangilista attacked Miguel? I mean it looked like Miguel just tried to calm Jose down.

From the looks of things, Evangelista keep yelling at Jose from ringside. From what I hear, Miguel went over to calm Evangelista down and Evangelista went crazy and physically attacked Miguel.

According to the commentators, Evangelista was telling Jose to do one thing and Jose was doing another. Evangelista was getting frustrated and at the end of every round, Evangelista would load up with the sponge full of water and splatter Jose's face with it. Jose got mad at this and he was also getting mad at the way his uncle was talking to him.
Miguel Cotto said he would quit boxing if his uncle was not in his corner. Don't be surprised if Cotto/Judah fight get's called off.
I am sure the Jose/Evangelista feud goes back a little further than this.
Re: Big Trouble in Camp Cotto (HELP!)
Well if he doesn't use his uncle anymore I like him to call Roach or Mayweather Snr.
Re: Big Trouble in Camp Cotto (HELP!)
I can't believe this" I can't believe more have not posted here! Shit! Man I hope this has not disrupted Miguel's camp >:mad :-\
Re: Big Trouble in Camp Cotto (HELP!)
That was strange, does anyone know why he was mad? It looks like conflicting ideas, probably stradegy arguement. Looks like Uncle Cotto was calling himout, and Jose was either frustrated by Singwangcha or himself. I saw Miguel getting frustrated with Urkal, so that could be his weakness to exploit. Frustrate him and he losses it. Fighting angry can be good for some, disatrous for others.

If that is the case, it looks to me less a family feud and more that cotto's people got smart and realized fighting Judah wasn't a good idea.
I say that b/c Jose's actions have no reflection on Miguel...miguel clearly settled him down.
